What a novelty to finally be playing a game of football when it should be played instead of being shunted about at the whims of Sky’s producers, the organisers of the Commonwealth games and the Rugby League fixtures. Huddersfield Town head to Birmingham tonight for another Friday night game. After seemingly never playing on Saturdays at three in the latter half of last season, we've had our first two fixtures of this season moved to Friday nights too. As much as football under the floodlights has a certain kind of appeal, I'll be pleased once we get back to playing most of our games on Saturdays. Tonight's team selection has a bit more riding on it than usual as most people felt that Danny Schofield got it wrong last week. I'm less inclined to say that as I predicted the exact starting eleven but Schofield does need to make sure he doesn't repeat the same mistakes again tonight. The day has finally arrived! The start of the new season. Today is a fresh start for a number of other reasons too as both teams have new head coaches tonight and will most likely be fielding a few new players (though for Huddersfield Town they may be on the bench to start with). Both of tonight’s teams hoped to be starting this season in the Premier League but are having to settle for the Championship. Burnley after relegation, Huddersfield Town following a bitter playoff final defeat. Both teams now have to put those disappointments aside, brush themselves down and get ready for a 46-game Championship campaign. It’s getting close now! After a very long wait and a lot of fussing about tickets, the playoff final is almost here. After 46 league games and two playoff semi-final matches, everything boils down to tomorrow’s winner-takes-all encounter against Nottingham Forest. Carlos said that he has a virtually fully fit squad to pick from for tomorrow’s game in his pre match press conference. If I’m honest, I’m not sure I believe him and he may just be keeping his cards close to his chest to avoid giving an advantage to Forest. Predicted lineup, tactics, creating a cauldron, penalty takers and pride – A preview of Huddersfield Town v Luton Town

Huddersfield Town take on Luton tonight in their most important game for a very long time. At least since the West Brom home game we won at the end of the Danny Cowley era to secure our Championship survival in 2020. Or maybe the draw at Stamford Bridge that secured our Premier League survival in 2018. Or maybe even the playoff final in 2017. Whichever way you look at it, tonight’s game is a big deal. Our 1-1 draw last Friday means that both teams head into the game on equal footing. It's nearly here! Town secured their place in the playoffs weeks ago, so it’s been a long wait but it's almost time for the playoffs. Town take on Luton at Kenilworth Road tonight in the first leg of their semi-final tie. Town are in good form at the moment and have players coming back from injury but Luton are a tough opponent so it won’t be easy. Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Bristol City – Who will Carlos rest?

Huddersfield Town play Bristol City this lunchtime in a game that isn't likely to make a huge difference to Town's season one way or another (sorry to those that like a hit of prematch hype). There's a chance for Town to finish third rather than fourth if our result is better than Nottingham Forest's but that doesn't count for much as we don't know which teams will finish fifth or sixth. Even if we did, I don't think it matters who we play in the semis, they're all good but none are teams that Town should fear. Huddersfield Town take on Coventry this afternoon in a rare Saturday three o'clock kickoff. Depending on your outlook, the game is a chance for Town to keep the possibility of a top-two finish alive, a chance to keep their form going and achieve the highest possible league position or it's of little more consequence than a preseason friendly. As you'd expect, Carlos spoke in his press conference about how he is only focusing on this game, wants to respect the integrity of the competition and isn't worrying about the playoffs yet. Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Barnsley – Who can fill Sorba’s shoes?

Huddersfield Town can confirm their entry to the playoffs with a win tonight over Barnsley. In fact, it's possible we could be certain of finishing in the top six if other results go our way even without a victory. Our opponents find themselves at the other end of the table and have to win to avoid confirming their relegation to League One. So plenty at stake in the Yorkshire derby! Dialing down the hype a notch, Barnsley are almost certain to go down and Town are similarly likely to qualify for the playoffs.
