Who is Alex Matos and will he be a good signing for Huddersfield Town?

Who is Alex Matos and will he be a good signing for Huddersfield Town?

Transfers
I was just about to publish my article about Town's defeat to Leicester on New Year's Day when I saw Town are on the verge of making their first January signing, so I've decided to write about that first and will put up the post about Monday's game later today. Apparently we're about to sign 19-year-old Chelsea winger, Alex Matos on loan for the rest of the season. I wouldn't usually write about unconfirmed transfer rumours but this one has been put out by Fabrizio Ramono on Twitter (or X if you prefer) who is usually fairly reliable. Or at least, I doubt someone who typically breaks stories of ginormous transfers would bother making up stories about a Chelsea youth player going to a struggling Championship side, so it seems likely to be true. It's also been picked up and reported by t...
TRANSFER TALK: Etienne Camara shouldn’t have left Huddersfield Town so soon

TRANSFER TALK: Etienne Camara shouldn’t have left Huddersfield Town so soon

Transfers
Etienne Camara’s departure from Huddersfield Town has now been officially confirmed by Town, four days after Udinese tweeted out pictures of the player signing for them. Seemingly there was a delay with the paperwork and the Italian club jumped the gun.Regardless, the French Under 20 international has left West Yorkshire for Italy for an undisclosed fee which is rumoured to be between £1.5m and £2.2m which will most likely also include a clause that will secure Town a percentage of any future transfer fee if he is sold for a profit.  While the terms being suggested don’t seem ridiculous for a player that hasn’t played a great deal and that was entering into the final year of his contract with no intention of renewing, I still feel like this deal doesn’t represent great value for H...
My thoughts on the 22 ins and outs at Huddersfield Town in the January transfer window

My thoughts on the 22 ins and outs at Huddersfield Town in the January transfer window

Transfers
Huddersfield Town’s January transfer window was certainly busier than most fans expected when Mark Fotheringham said there wouldn’t be any activity this month. Whether that was him playing mind games with the board, other teams or he was just talking rubbish is hard to say but, in fairness to the club's hierarchy, they have been very active in the January market. On a more critical note, the activity at this stage looks like a confused mess of bargain bucket purchases and weird decisions with the odd promising acquisition thrown in. With all the loan players being recalled and sent out again, I’ve genuinely lost track of all the movement in and out of the squad this month. So, to get some clarity in my own mind, I’m going to go through all the transfers the club have made this month. T...
Thoughts on Kamberi, Lowton, Luton, HTSA questions, loan recalls & January transfer window

Thoughts on Kamberi, Lowton, Luton, HTSA questions, loan recalls & January transfer window

News, Transfers
Rather than try and rush out five blogposts on various different Town-related topics in one day, I thought I’d do a quick roundup article to cover off all the relevant goings on that occurred this week for Town. It’s been a pretty busy week, with the aftermath of the Luton game to pick over, two new arrivals, the supporters’ association publicly demanding a meeting with the club and plenty of transfer rumours and plenty of loan recalls.  Here are my thoughts on the latest Huddersfield Town goings on, in no particular order… Looking back on Luton I’m way too late to get too deep into the Luton game last Sunday and I think the bones have already been picked over that game. Here are my bullet point thoughts on the game: Luton had more cutting edge in the final third and that...
Which loan players might Huddersfield Town recall in January?

Which loan players might Huddersfield Town recall in January?

Opinion, Transfers
Huddersfield Town are currently bottom of the league, riddled with injuries and looking League One in the face. As the club is currently up for sale it seems unlikely there will be a large war chest available for new blood in January, so another potential source of fresh faces  could be to recall some of our youngsters who are currently out on loan. I thought it might be interesting to take a look to see which of the crop of loanees might be interesting to Mark Fotheringham, based on a combination of their stats for their loans so far and the gaps in the current Town squad. Here’s what I’ve found out…  Ryan Schofield On loan at: Hibs Level: SPL Games played: 0 WhoScored.com average rating: N/A Stats: Number of times he’s warmed the bench: 9 He was sign...
Thoughts on Huddersfield Town’s transfer ins and outs, defeat to Bristol City and their crucial game against Blackpool

Thoughts on Huddersfield Town’s transfer ins and outs, defeat to Bristol City and their crucial game against Blackpool

Matches, Opinion, Transfers
I’ve always thought that if you’re scrambling around on transfer deadline day to get your business done then you’ve done something wrong. So maybe we shouldn’t be quite so delighted with the flurry of activity that Town saw at Canalside on Thursday as the deadline approached. Three new players came through the door as even more were ushered out on loan.  In this article I’ll work my through the various deals that took place and then summarise a few of my thoughts on the defeat to Bristol City. I think the transfer news is probably more important than the defeat now, as the game has passed now and is probably not one Town fans want to spend a lot of time thinking about and at least the signings offer a little bit of hope! Michal Helik on a permanent deal from Barnsley I think this...
Which Huddersfield Town players are in the last year of their contract?

Which Huddersfield Town players are in the last year of their contract?

Matches, Player profiles, Transfers
Maybe it’s a bit early to be worrying about it, but a number of Huddersfield Town’s squad are entering into their final year of their contract this season. That means next could see more churn within the squad unless the people behind the scenes at the club are able to tie down key players to new deals. Or, looking at it from another perspective, some players that haven’t done enough or that have reached the twilight of their careers will be allowed to leave so we can recruit better replacements. There’s also the phenomena to consider that I like to call the “Simon Baldry effect” which is when a player that has previously been pretty average suddenly starts playing like a world beater when their contract is a few months away from ending to earn themselves a new deal before reverting ba...
There are gaps in Huddersfield Town’s squad – here’s where they are

There are gaps in Huddersfield Town’s squad – here’s where they are

Transfers
Now we're only one week away from the start of the Championship season open against Burnley in front of the Sky cameras, I thought it might be interesting to see what shape the squad is in. Here's a quick look at how each position in the squad is looking.  Goalkeeper NichollsSchofieldBilokapic / Chapman / Bellagambi / Roxburgh  Obviously our first choice is superb but then the remaining options are a bit of a worry. It may be one or more of the B Team lads are ready to step up to be the main cover for Nicholls but otherwise we need senior backup before the season starts as Schofield hasn't been seen in preseason. I presume he's not recovered from the injury he had last season but this hasn't been officially confirmed by the club.  Right back  Ollie Turto...
How will Huddersfield Town replace O’Brien and Toffolo?

How will Huddersfield Town replace O’Brien and Toffolo?

Transfers
After months of speculation, I found it was actually a relief when Lewis O’Brien and Harry Toffolo’s transfer to Nottingham Forest were finally officially announced yesterday afternoon. While I didn’t like seeing two of my favourite recent Town players gurning for the camera in the shirts of our recent rivals, it’s good that the saga is now over and we can move on to thinking about what happens next for Huddersfield Town. That’s exactly what I’m going to focus on in this article, how do Huddersfield Town move forward now we’ve sold two of our best players? I know many fans expect the club to go out into the transfer market and spend big on replacements but the club’s statement on Lewis O’Brien leaving pretty much confirmed we won’t be doing that: “We knew that we could realistically lo...
What can Nottingham Forest fans expect from Harry Toffolo – A Huddersfield Town fan’s view

What can Nottingham Forest fans expect from Harry Toffolo – A Huddersfield Town fan’s view

Player profiles, Transfers
After a tumultuous day of rumours regarding the O'Brien and Toffolo transfers to Nottingham Forest yesterday,  it now seems likely that these moves are back on again. So after talking about what Forest fans can expect from Lewis O’Brien yesterday, it seems logical to do the same today about Harry Toffolo.  The goings on yesterday may give some Forest fans that Toffolo is a bit of a diva, given the leaks in the press suggested it was Toffolo’s personal demands that nearly derailed both his and O’Brien’s transfers, but I’d say that Toffolo is one of the most professional and decent footballers I’ve ever come across. Perhaps this is a low bar to clear given the low moral standard of the average footballer but Harry Toffolo has always been nothing but a true gentlemen and model p...
