Town are in Sunderland tonight for the second round of the league cup. With wholesale changes likely to the starting lineup, it's an impossible task to know what sort of team we will be fielding. There's not much point debating whether Town should or shouldn't field a strong team, as this competition is universally used by teams to give their fringe players a run out. Luckily, Town have a good amount of depth and few injuries compared to last season, so we can rest players and not lose too much. In fact, this game is a good opportunity to get minutes into a few players that will be miffed to be outside of the starting eleven for league games. Stevenage are the guests at the Accu Stadium today, as first in the league comes to take on fifth. I’ve talked in my pre-match talking points article about Stevenage's wins mostly coming against weak League One opposition, so today will be their biggest test of the season. Stevenage's direct and physical approach is likely to be a big test for Town too, so it’ll be an interesting encounter even if the football might be a bit industrial at times (and the tackles potentially agricultural). Huddersfield Town take on Blackpool later today in a game that sees Town, with a record so far this season of three wins in three, take on Blackpool with the opposite form to Town, having lost all three of their games. Huddersfield Town take on Leyton Orient later today at the newly named, Accu stadium. Newness is a theme, we have a new manager, new players, a new system and a new sense of hope. While the raft of changes since last season ended all seem positive, today's game is the first chance to see what this new version of Huddersfield Town are really about. Predicting Lee Grant's starting eleven is tricky today as Grant was cagey about the availability of his players, apart from confirming Anthony Evans will be out for up to ten weeks with a gammy knee. The team selections in preseason have been hard to predict because the main priority has been to get minutes into the legs of as many players as possible. Now we're facing the final game before the League One opener against Leyton Orient next weekend, I expect something closer to our best eleven against Burnley. With eleven signings so far this summer and more expected before the transfer deadline, it's going to feel like a brand new version of Huddersfield Town, which is much needed after previous failures. Huddersfield Town take on Cambridge United on Friday night in a game that was moved from Saturday afternoon to Friday night but seemingly won’t be broadcast on Sky Sports. I saw a comment on Facebook saying that it was moved to give players an extra day between this game and Boxing Day. Cambridge United had the option to let Sky screen the match but declined, presumably out of fear it would reduce the attendance. Moving this fixture to a Friday then not allowing it to be screened on TV for fans who can’t make it seems bonkers to me. Trying to predict the Huddersfield Town lineup up for a Bristol Street Motors game is a fool’s errand, as it's likely that a good number of players will be rested for a competition that is broadly viewed as a waste of time until you get to the final stages. Having said that, I think Michael Duff may be a bit more conservative with his rotation for this game, after losing to Doncaster in this competition in early September and Tamworth in the FA Cup the other week I doubt he wants another cup defeat.
