Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Cambridge United

Huddersfield Town take on Cambridge United on Saturday afternoon and will hope that they can continue their unbeaten start in League One. We're still finding out what kind of team Martin Drury's Huddersfield Town are going to be this season but the early indicators are promising with a few nagging doubts. The attacking side of Town's game has been particularly impressive, with Fletcher being the exact kind of striker we've been missing for years, Fernandes looking like an exciting player with genuine goal threat and Joe Taylor suddenly looks like the player we hoped he would be when we first signed him. In defence of Taylor, Drury is the first manager to play to Taylor's strengths, so it's not exactly a surprise that he's looking more dangerous when the service he's receiving helps him...

Predicted Huddersfield Town lineup to play MK Dons and pre-match talking points

Matches, Predicted lineups, Talking points

Huddersfield Town head to Milton Keynes on Saturday afternoon for their first away trip of the season. The fixture computer has thrown up a strange one-two combination for our opening games, with last weekend featuring AFC Wimbledon and this weekend seeing Town take on the town that bought the old Wimbledon club and moved them up to Milton Keynes. The sort of franchise move is relatively common in the US but it feels wrong in England, even if it did take place decades ago. After a marvelous opening day victory against Wimbledon last weekend, Town will be looking to build upon that with their first away points of the season. MK Dons are likely to be a tricky opponent though and should provide a stern test for Martin Drury's Town team. Rather than only doing a predicted lineup, I've wr...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on AFC Wimbledon

Predicted lineups

Huddersfield Town open up their League One campaign on Saturday afternoon, when they take on AFC Wimbledon at the Accu Stadium. After blowing a 1-0 lead in injury time against Preston North End last week, Town will be hoping to put their Carabao Cup exit behind them with a positive result against AFC Wimbledon. In all honesty, few people would have been that bothered about losing in the league cup apart from the fact it was another game where we conceded a late goal from a winning position. Wimbledon aren't a hugely fancied team in League One but they are a physical side that will fight hard, so Town will have to win their battles in order to earn the right to play football. Martin Drury's job will be to select a team that's able to deliver that combination of work ethic and razzle dazz...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Port Vale

Matches, Predicted lineups

Huddersfield Town take on bottom-of-the-table Port Vale on Boxing Day, in a game that should in theory be an easy victory for Town but when does reality ever match up to theory in football? While Port Vale haven't won in the league since September, Town also have a track record of unburdening opposition teams of their bad runs of form. The "And He Takes That Chance Podcast" refer to Huddersfield Town as Charity FC because of this tendency to offer hope to seemingly helpless clubs. Will that tendency emerge during the season of goodwill to all men? If we play like we did against Rotherham last weekend then we should easily dispatch Port Vale but if it's more like our last game (against Wigan, not Wimbledon as I suggested in my last post) then any team would have a chance. Getting the sel...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Luton & pre-match talking points

Matches, Predicted lineups, Talking points

Huddersfield Town are in Luton tonight to try and extend their winning run to four games. Luton Town were in the Premier League just a few seasons ago but are a completely different proposition at the moment, with their last outing being a 5-0 thumping from Barnsley. It’s a sad state of affairs that both Luton Town and Huddersfield Town are coming into this game as mid-table League One teams when it wasn’t that long ago that we knocked them out of the Championship playoff semi-finals thanks to a Jordan Rhodes goal. Both teams find themselves in reduced circumstances but my impression is that Luton are roughly were Town were last season and haven’t hit their rock bottom yet. My hope is that Town’s limp finish to last season was their rock bottom and this season will be the one wher...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Mansfield

Matches, Predicted lineups

After a very long period away from club football because of the international break, we're now at the start of a hectic period with a glut of games over the next few weeks. Town's visit to Mansfield this afternoon will be a chance for Lee Grant's men to continue their momentum from their two consecutive wins before the break. Though there's also the looming doubt about whether Town have really turned a corner, following a pretty dismal collapse in form prior to those two wins. To get the right result today, Lee Grant will need to make the right selection. With a few players returning to fitness over the last few weeks, there are more options available. But with Town putting in one of their better performances against Plymouth in their last game, it would be understandable to want to sti...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Bolton Wanderers

Matches, Predicted lineups

Drawing teams from your own division in the cup is always a drag. It's even worse when it's against a team that's decent enough to beat us but not a big enough scalp for a Town victory to mean a great deal. Add to that the fact we recently allowed today's opponents to steal three points from us in the league a few weeks ago and this game doesn't bode well. Lee Grant's under fire and injury ravaged Terriers will cross the Pennines to take on Bolton in the first round of the FA Cup today, but it's likely few fans will join them in their journey given the gloom hanging over the club currently. One of the things I enjoy about writing these team prediction articles is that they often get me into the mood for a game. It'll take something pretty special to get me excited about this game though...

Duff’s revenge, learning not winning, May headache & predicted Huddersfield Town lineup to take on Wycombe

Matches, Predicted lineups, Talking points

Huddersfield Town head to Wycombe this afternoon in a game that will see Town reunited with their former manager, Michael Duff. While Wycombe had a dodgy start to the season, they've picked up since Duff's arrival and he's been able to make them competitive in most games. Town come into the game in poor form, and Lee Grant is under pressure after a run of lacklustre and tactically naive displays. A win might quiet some of those doubting voices, and a defeat would increase the speculation about his ability to lead “The Group”. Will this be Duff's revenge? Michael Duff spoke about his exit from Huddersfield Town in his press conference for this game. He was discreet enough not to start getting into specifics but he did make it clear he felt badly done to by Town and his exit w...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Bolton

Matches, Predicted lineups

Huddersfield Town take on Bolton tonight in a rare Thursday night game for the Terriers. After an extended break due to the international games, Town will hope this game will be a chance to put things right after a humbling 2-1 defeat to ten-man Stockport in their last outing. Bolton have yet to win on the road this season and have a tendency to struggle to finish the chances they create, so they have their own problems to deal with. Lee Grant has a few more players available for selection in this game, after Mickel Miller and Anthony Evans have been declared fit, as well as Lynden Gooch now being futher along with his recovery from injury. The difficult decision will be whether to stick with the players he was using before the international break or to throw in these returning pl...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Stockport

Matches, Predicted lineups

Huddersfield Town take on Stockport this afternoon in a game that feels like it could be significant in Toen's season. After a mixed bag of results up to now this season, this feels like a game where Town either get their act together or continue to stumble around trying to find some form. Town sit fifth in the table and could finish the weekend higher still if results go our way. But given the expectations that were set in the summer, it feels like we're not quite where we need to be yet. While there are signs of promise in Lee Grant's system, there are also weaknesses which keep costing us. To get the most out of this game, Town need to play the right team. Here's who I think Lee Grant will pick today. Goalkeeper: Lee Nicholls With Lee Nicholls continu...
