Ex-Town boss does Alan Partridge style corporate gig

Ex-Town boss does Alan Partridge style corporate gig

News
Danny Cowley was Huddersfield Town manager until he was unceremoniously sacked a couple of days after guiding Town to Championship safety last July. Now he's doing corporate gigs for ScrewFix Direct. Cowley answered some heavily curated questions taken from fans on Twitter and then played a couple of slightly cringe-inducing games involving the ScrewFix catalogue, some ping pong balls and mugs. Did Danny Cowley reveal anything in the Q&A section about his time at Town? In short, no. Despite there being plenty of probing questions on Twitter from Town fans about Cowley's Huddersfield Town career, they didn't make the cut and the questions didn't get any harder than "who were the best fans at the clubs you've managed" (he gave a diplomatic non-answer where he complimented all the fans...
8 talking point from Carlos Corberán’s pre-Brentford press conference

8 talking point from Carlos Corberán’s pre-Brentford press conference

Matches, News, Opinion
Carlos Corberán spoke with the press yesterday to answer questions about tomorrow's game against Brentford. Below are the main things that he revealed with his answers and a few of my thoughts about what he said. Danny Ward's injury and the lack of strikers Danny Ward's hamstring is still knacked, he's having a scan on it next week. I've no idea why he hasn't had one this week, seeing as he had this issue before the Norwich game. It doesn't sound like a bad injury but the fact it's not cleared up in a week suggests it could be worse than initially expected. With Town's only other senior striker only just coming back from injury it leaves us very short up top. Will Town try to speed through transfer business to help with the striker issue? Carlos doesn't want to rush into signings and ...
Key Huddersfield Town players back in training (and a look at why we’ve had so many injuries)

Key Huddersfield Town players back in training (and a look at why we’ve had so many injuries)

Matches, News
Jonathan Hogg and Christopher Schindler were both seen back in training yesterday after missing some of preseason with injuries. Hogg had suffered a recurrence of the hip injury that bothered him for spells last season and I don't recall the club giving a reason why Schindler wasn't able to train. In totally unrelated news, it's now two weeks since the club announced they had a "small number" of positive coronavirus cases. So the undisclosed personnel that had to self isolate will now be able to return if they are well. (Adama Diakhaby is also back in training too, but he's got a long way to go before he can be described as a key player. I'm all for players getting another chance but he's got a lot to prove after his previous lacklustre efforts for Town.) How important are Hogg and Sch...
What are Huddersfield Town fans expecting this season?

What are Huddersfield Town fans expecting this season?

News, Opinion
What are Huddersfield Town fans expecting this season? On Sunday I ran a fairly unscientific Twitter poll to gauge the expectations of Huddersfield Town fans for the forthcoming season. I think it's interesting to see the different levels of optimism, pessimism, realism and delusion among the fan base. Before we get into the details, it's worth stating that 232 people answered the poll and the respondents are likely to be my followers, so not necessarily representative of all Town fans. Here's what the poll shows. Mid-table mediocrity The most popular answer by a significant margin was that Town will finish comfortably in the middle of the table. Nearly half of respondents (48%) think we're not likely to be close to either going up or down this year. It feels like every season contai...
What are Huddersfield Town’s transfer priorities?

What are Huddersfield Town’s transfer priorities?

News
Today marks the start of preseason training and, most likely, will see transfer talk start to intensify now everyone is back from their holidays. Last week I looked at which members of the current squad are likely to stay at the club beyond this transfer window. Based upon those assumptions, I've taken a look at which areas of the pitch are most in need of fresh blood. Wingers, lots and lots of wingers This is the area of the pitch I'm most worried about. If Grant is sold then we are left with Josh Karoma and the kids in the academy. Or gambling on Mbenza and Diakhaby taking the latest in the large number of chances they’ve been given. If we play 433 most of next season we will need wide players that can score plenty of goals. The majority of our goals last season came from wide areas ...
“Where are they now? – Huddersfield Town FC” by Lee Morris – Author interview

“Where are they now? – Huddersfield Town FC” by Lee Morris – Author interview

News
This post is an interview with Lee Morris about the book he wrote about Huddersfield Town players lives after football, called Where Are They Now?. He's put a tremendous amount of effort into his book and it sounds like a cracking read.  Tell us about your book? I have written a book called Where Are They Now? about what happened to every professional player to play a game and also every manager from 1910 to 2018. The book hopes to provide an insight into the player/manager’s Town career and then what they got up to after they left the club. How long did it take to write? It took a year or so to write but contains over 10 years of research. How did you go about finding out what happened to ex-Town players? It’s something that I’ve been doing for a very long time. For about 10 years n...
A theory about Huddersfield Town’s ‘hen do’ Paddy Power kit

A theory about Huddersfield Town’s ‘hen do’ Paddy Power kit

News
Huddersfield Town unveiled their new shirt earlier this week and it has caused quite a stir. New sponsors, Paddy Power, have their logo splashed extravagantly across the front, taking up so much room that it breaks the FA's rules on sponsor sizes. It's widely thought to be a prank of some sort, and an alternative kit is waiting in the wings to be unveiled. However, the kit was released two days ago and the club haven't clarified what's going on. In this article I'm going to put forward my theory about what's going to happen with the club's shirt, and what Huddersfield Town will be playing in next season. The problem Huddersfield Town and Paddy Power now have While many football fans have seen the new kit as an outrage against decency and a humiliation for the club, others have called ...

Huddersfield Town confirm plans for next season’s shirt badge

News
In the most recent ATT Voices Panel meeting Huddersfield Town confirmed that they will NOT be using the "Terriers" dog logo on next season's shirt and will instead be reverting to an embroidered badge of some sort. The were few details, but it was clear that the logo on last season's shirt is now going to be a one season experiment rather than a permanent change of shirt badge. Luke Cowan, the club's Retail Manager, confirmed that: "The Terrier Dog was only for one year." Sean Jarvis made similar comments in the "And He Takes That Chance" podcast last week, but I believe this is the first time it's been confirmed in writing by the club. What badge will be on next season's shirt? There's very little detail about what the terrier badge will be replaced with, but it seems likely that a r...
PL Predictions: Liverpool to win it; Town safe; Brighton, Southampton and Newcastle down

PL Predictions: Liverpool to win it; Town safe; Brighton, Southampton and Newcastle down

News, Opinion
Everyone else seems to be doing Premier League predictions, so with the new season just hours away, I thought I’d do mine. I’ve got absolutely no more insight into these things than the average fan, so don’t expect me to be even close to being accurate. In fact, you’re welcome to save this link and set a reminder on your phone to mock me for my stupidity in May next year. Here’s how I think the league is going to shape up. It’s a long image, and if you scroll past it my explanations for these predictions at the bottom. Where will Huddersfield Town finish in the Premier League? I’m thinking we can finish thirteenth this season. This would put us safely clear of the relegation scrap and proving we’re capable of staying in the Premier League for a little while longer. This may be a t...
Have Huddersfield Town too many foreign players for the Premier League rules?

Have Huddersfield Town too many foreign players for the Premier League rules?

News, Player profiles, Transfers
Most Town fans will have noticed that our current squad has a far more cosmopolitan feel to it these days. One of the reasons we’ve achieved so much in recent seasons has been our ability to pick up players from abroad at a fraction of the cost their English equivalent would be valued at. Has delving into foreign markets left Town in a position where they could fall foul of the Premier League’s rules about homegrown players? Could Town be forced into naming a smaller squad than they could because of the lack of homegrown players on our books? If you can’t be bothered reading the whole article, the quick answer is that our current squad is almost perfectly balanced between homegrown and non-homegrown players, but any transfers could muck this up and mean we have to move players on. W...
