8 of the best tweets following Town’s draw with Rotherham

Here’s a quick round up of some of the best tweets about Saturday’s last-minute draw against Rotherham.

Joy and desolation captured in one image

I love this picture as it really sums up how football is often a zero-sum game – your moment of exhilaration and joy is coming at the expense of the other team’s dismay and frustration. When you’re used to being on the other side of that transaction it becomes even sweeter to snatch a point when it looked like all was lost.

Retired blogger gives Rotherham some credit

John, who used to run the TerrierBlog website, gave Rotherham the credit they deserved and attracted some stick from fellow Town fans. I thought he was right to highlight how Rotherham executed their gameplan very well and gave Town a tough game. There are many ways to play football effectively and they don’t all have to be beautiful, flowing football. Rotherham aren’t pretty to watch but they’re well-drilled and tough to break down. I think they’ve got more than enough to survive in the Championship this season.

Martin points out one of iFollow’s failings

I’ve already written in the past about how iFollow cut away for replays at ridiculous times and they were no better yesterday. Town were just launching an attack and they still interrupted the live broadcast to show a replay anyway. By the time we rejoined the action Town had entered the penalty area and it was impossible to know how we’d got there.

The plan between now and the transfer window closing is clear to Nick

We have two valuable assets sat doing nothing in Grant and Kongolo and it’s getting very boring reading endless speculation with neither of them actually completing a move.

There was a suggestion from Carlos in his post match interview that he wants new players in quickly, so he can bed them in during the international break. If this is true then we might see the transfer committe provide Carlos with the ammunition Nick describes above.

“Match analysis by agenda”

What a great turn of phrase Mark uses to describe how some Town fans see whatever they want to see when watching matches. I touched upon this in my final point in my Rotherham reactions article, so I’ll not rehash it again here.

The much-maligned recruitment team get some credit from mcterrier

The promise to switch to a new style of play and bring in players that are suited to that style seems to be coming to fruition for Town now. Sarr, Pipa and Eiting were among our best performers yesterday and all are new arrivals who have slotted in nicely to the system. It shouldn’t be exceptional to see Town have made a plan and are following through with it but it sort of is. Obviously there are a few pieces missing from the puzzle, particularly at the top end of the pitch, but the new boys are doing well so far.

The Town admins gave Pipa the credit despite it being a blatant own goal

They’ve got these goal GIFs and they’re determined to use them, even if it means ignoring reality and pretending that Pipa’s original strike wasn’t going harmlessly wide until MacDonald guided it past his own keeper.

Clark praised the positives but calls for more attacking talent

This game was a perfect example of where Town are right now. Some very promising play spoilt by a lack of cutting edge up front. Now it’s down to the board to sell off Grant and Kongolo and then the transfer committee to pluck some attacking talent out of obscurity.

everyone knows whats needed at HTFC get shot of Kongolo and Grant, and I would still take Charlie Austin and cash for Grant, that would give us some real fire up front, but whoever comes in needs time in this window to get up to Carlos’s methods.UTT

      Rangers in for Bacuna ?
I would sell him in a heart beat.
He has the talent but Im also pretty sure that if we let half the team showboat in the way he does we would think the same, theyve all got skill.
He is simply too frustrating to watch when the easy ball is required, so imagine how the rest of the squad feel after busting a gut to get in position to take a pass, only to see him decide a flick or backheel is warrented etc for me he doesnt do the basics when needed well enough
Its a fine balance between killing it off in him and getting through to him its a team sport.

I would also be happy to take Charlie Austin, but i would imagine its a wages thing that would instantly take us out of the equation and although a decent forward are we sure we could give him the service ?

What is a ‘Potless bloc’? If there is such a thing can’t it include those who appreciate the team’s efforts but whoop also insist we need to spend to secure survival this season? This attempt by Abbott (above) and others to paint all critics of Town’s board as ill -informed and unreasonable just won’t wash.

The team did there best ad they have all season. They need a decent, fit and lively striker up front.

I agree charlie austin would be a great filip for the club, hard working no nonsense striker..im sure the town
hirearchy are up to date with all the news but how about looking at the arsenal defender who is looking for a championship club as his international deal fell through, talking about William Salaba, a cheeky offer might work you never know ???

    • Terrier Spirit

Thanks for your comment Michael, apologies for the delay in it going live, you got caught in the spambox!

Charlie Austin would be a good signing in terms of the quality of player but I’m not sure I could take to him as he seems like a nasty piece of work (mostly based on his stamp on Lössl’s face and his general whinging to the media). I’d most likely end up loving him if he was our player rather than an opponent but I’d rather we didn’t sign him if I’m honest.

I’ve never heard of Salaba at Arsenal but I’m sure Premier League academies are stuffed with players that could do a job for us. I’m not sure we’re short in defence at the moment but if a player is available that can improve on what we’ve got then it’s worth taking a look at them.

I get your feelings on charlie austin and wouldnt be a fan of any player doing that but… we are sorely lacking in a player ( and so are many clubs even in PL) that goes for the throat, ( pardon the pun, no disrespect intended) how many times last year did we depend on Grant to come up with the goods ?and he got them because he has an old fashioned attitude to take players on and take his chances throwing himself fully into his job.
Austin is like that, he punished us a few times, we get to the final third and start backpassing and playing across the field…looking for a player to make a thrust into the heart of defense which is when opposing teams absolutley crap themselves..if not austin someone of his ilk…like to see grant stay and austin arrive, think of the goals
