“His worst game in a Town shirt” – Player ratings for Huddersfield Town’s dismal defeat to Stockport

“His worst game in a Town shirt” – Player ratings for Huddersfield Town’s dismal defeat to Stockport

Matches, Player ratings
Huddersfield Town suffered another depressing defeat on Saturday, losing 2-1 to Stockport. After struggling to break down ten-man Blackpool earlier in the season, I had a sinking feeling when Stockport had a man sent off early in the second half. That feeling was completely justified as, if anything, we played significantly worse than when we were playing against 11 men.  Apologies it’s a bit later than usual, but here are my player ratings for this deeply disappointing defeat.  Lee Nicholls - 6 out of 10 Made a series of regulation saves, which he made look easy with his good positioning and good anticipation. His best moment was in the second half when he stopped a one-on-one by coming quickly off his line and not committing, meaning the shot hit his forearm and went harmle...
Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Stockport

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Stockport

Matches, Predicted lineups
Huddersfield Town take on Stockport this afternoon in a game that feels like it could be significant in Toen's season. After a mixed bag of results up to now this season, this feels like a game where Town either get their act together or continue to stumble around trying to find some form.  Town sit fifth in the table and could finish the weekend higher still if results go our way. But given the expectations that were set in the summer, it feels like we're not quite where we need to be yet. While there are signs of promise in Lee Grant's system, there are also weaknesses which keep costing us.  To get the most out of this game, Town need to play the right team. Here's who I think Lee Grant will pick today.  Goalkeeper: Lee Nicholls  With Lee Nicholls continu...
Talking points ahead of Huddersfield Town v Stockport

Talking points ahead of Huddersfield Town v Stockport

Matches, Talking points
Huddersfield Town take on Stockport County at the Accu Stadium on Saturday afternoon. It’s the first home game since the club announced taking full ownership of the stadium, so it’s being billed as a housewarming party. Hopefully Stockport won’t do anything to spoil the party atmosphere and we can prove ourselves against one of League One’s more fancied teams (and last season’s defeated playoff finalists). Before I get into the talking points, I should also apologise for my lack of posts in the last few weeks. I’ve been under the weather but am feeling better now, so normal service should be resumed. I'll be doing the usual predicted lineup, player ratings and post-game notes for this match as well as some slightly different bits during the international break.  Here are the pre...

Glorious goals, captain Sorba, same old problems, Rhodes spite, special teams subs – Notes on the Stockport friendly

Matches
Huddersfield Town traveled to Stockport yesterday for a friendly and came away with a 4-0 victory. While it’s important not to get too carried away with preseason games, particularly when they’re against a team from further down the divisions, there were some positive signs on display alongside the important fitness test for the Terriers.  The game was played at a fairly good tempo for a friendly game, I don’t think Neil Warnock would allow any team of his to drop their standards for even a meaningless game like this. While it wasn’t anything like a proper league game, there were some full-blooded tackles and there weren't those horrible lulls you sometimes get in friendlies, where the players almost stand on the ball to get their breath back. Both teams went for it and had a go. And wh...
