Darren Moore notched his first win of his Huddersfield Town tenure on Saturday by overcoming a spirited but misfiring QPR team. It was mostly thanks to a very good opening spell, some desperate defending and QPR's own problems that Town came away with a win when their performance was probably a long way short of other games this season where we've either lost or drawn. For example, the previous game against Ipswich was a far better performance despite Town only getting a point. But points are the thing that keep you in the division, not pretty football, so maybe this was the kind of game Town needed to get Darren Moore's time at Town properly started. Or perhaps this win was a false dawn and there are warning signs we should be taking heed of before things get any worse. We won't know ...

Huddersfield Town come back from the international break with a home game against QPR today. It feels like forever since we’ve had a Town game to watch, so I’m looking forward to getting down to the stadium and watching Darren Moore’s team play. Which perhaps shows how bad my memory is, because Town were absolute garbage in their last outing against Sheffield Wednesday two weeks ago, where they played out a 0-0 draw with one of the Championship’s worst teams and didn’t register a single shot on target.  Today could be different though, as Darren Moore has had the international break to work with his team and we’ll perhaps see a bit more of his vision on the pitch. Up to now, because of the limited amount of time he’s had between matches since his arrival, his tactics have been a Franke...

Huddersfield Town drew with QPR on Saturday in a game which saw Town look absolutely abysmal in the first half but actually finished the game on the front foot and were pushing for the victory.  It will depend on your perspective on Town (and maybe life in general) whether there was enough to satisfy you in Town's good moments to offset how bad they were at their worst in this game. We really stank when we were bad but once Knockaert came on in the closing stages we suddenly looked like we could attack with purpose and creativity. Judging from the boos at the end of the game, many fans remain unconvinced but I think there was enough to encourage the optimistic Town fan. Team selection and tactics all wrong  I think a lot of Town's difficulties in the first half of this ...

When Danny Ward spurned a presentable chance in the opening seconds of last night’s game and then QPR went straight up the other end and scored the opening goal it felt like it was going to be a long night for Town. And then it suddenly wasn’t. The script of recent weeks was torn up and instead of Town playing well but ultimately losing, they got their noses in front and then hung on until the final whistle. It wasn’t always pretty but Town deserved the three points for showing the character and nerve to dig in and resist relentless pressure from QPR. The second half was hard to watch from a Town perspective as we went long periods without meaningful possession but we stuck to our task and came away with three vital points and a renewed sense of hope. Here are a few of my thoughts o...

The dust has settled on Huddersfield Town’s 2-2 draw with QPR on Good Friday and I’m still feeling disappointed about the result. We’re still in a great position in the league, we’ve passed the 70 point mark, and there are any number of reasons to feel good about Town but I still feel a bit annoyed that a winnable game ended in a draw. Worse than that, Town were probably a bit lucky to escape with a point after QPR had a couple of excellent chances to score a winner in the closing stages. Here are a few of my thoughts from the game. I thought it was a bit of a nothing sort of game and I'd not have a lot to say but somehow it turned into a whopper. Enjoy!  Square pegs in round holes  I know Carlos has spoken often about how he values having flexible players that can be d...

Huddersfield Town took the lead twice and were pegged back twice against QPR this evening. It wasn't a vintage performance but at least Town managed to take a point from it. Results elsewhere suited Town and mean they are still in a commanding position in the playoff race without many games left to play.  Peformances in this game were a mixed bag, some players struggled in unfamiliar roles, others were OK and a couple were poor without much excuse. Here's what I thought…  Lee Nicholls - 7 out of 10 Not at fault for either goal, reliable with his distribution and commanded his area well when coming for crosses. There were very few saves for him to make but he did everything required of him. Oli Turton - 6 out of 10  Didn't get tight enough for several crosses an...

Huddersfield Town take on QPR today in yet another televised game, this time with the odd kick off time of 5.30pm. Town come into the game buoyant after their crucial 2-0 win against promotion rivals, Luton Town. Not long ago it would have seemed like playing QPR would have been another game against playoff rivals but a run of five straight defeats has all-but ruled them out of contention for the playoffs and they come into this game in stinking form. I can’t be bothered to go back into the records to check if my hunch is correct, but Town seem to always help opponents end bad runs by losing to them. Most notably this season we played Nottingham Forest at home after a spell when they had been absolutely awful under Chris Hughton but sadly they had sacked their manager and beat us comfo...

5 final thoughts on Huddersfield Town’s 1-0 win over QPR

Huddersfield Town won their first away game in 5 months on Saturday, when they beat QPR 1-0. It was a good all-round team performance and relied on grit and organisation more than attacking flair to get the result over the line.  Before our thoughts turn to Wednesday's crucial clash with Sheffield Wednesday, here are some of my final thoughts about last Saturday's game.  A competent 1-0 win was better for confidence than a big win  Keeping a clean sheet again and finally managing to successfully defend a narrow lead will have done wonders for our confidence. Town haven't won many games 1-0 this season, mostly because we have tended to try to score more after going ahead and that has also led to conceding more too.  A comfortable victory would have been nice but ...

“Brilliant but frustrating” Player ratings for Huddersfield Town’s win against QPR

Huddersfield Town beat QPR 1-0, ending our long wait for an away win with an assured performance which saw Town surrender possession in favour of staying organised and hitting QPR on the break.  The three points is huge for our survival bid and if we can follow it up with a win against Sheffield Wednesday in midweek then I think our relegation worries can be mostly set aside (providing we don't implode over the remaining games) .  This result came from a strong disciplined, team performance rather than dazzling individual brilliance, so expect to see lots of seven out of tens rather than any huge scores for individuals.  Ryan Schofield - 8 out 10  His save and clearance double movement to deny Kane was superb and kept us in the game. His goal line heroics were as good as scori...

As Alan Partridge once said, "Go to London! I guarantee you'll either be mugged or not appreciated. Catch the train to London, stopping at Rejection, Disappointment, Backstabbing Central and Shattered Dreams Parkway."  Let's hope that Huddersfield Town's trip to Loftus Road this afternoon doesn't result in shattered dreams but given the recent form of the home side and our pitiful away record it's likely to be another big ask for Town to come away with anything.  Read on to find out my thoughts on who Town will select this afternoon, my prediction for the outcome and some of the key talking points ahead of the match.  Predicted Huddersfield Town XI  Goalkeeper: Schofield  Defence: Edmonds-Green, Stearman, Sarr Midfield: Rowe, Hogg, O'Brien, Bacuna, Pi...
