Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on PNE

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on PNE

Thankfully Town fans don’t have to spend too long feeling sorry for themselves after Saturday’s humbling at the hands of Fulham as they look to bounce back against Preston at the John Smith’s Stadium tonight. Preston have their own problems to deal with, after losing their first two games, so both sides will be desperate to get back to winning ways.  The fact that neither side has had a good start to the season so far could make this game resemble two half-blind pigeons squabbling over a cigarette butt, with lots of determination on show but little skill. While Town’s players and coaching staff will be desperate to turn in a performance and a result after Saturday, Preston won’t be pushovers and it could be a war of attrition.  Thankfully Carlos has a few players returning...

Derby preview – Team news, predicted starting XI, tactics and score

Huddersfield Town head to Derby riding a wave of euphoria following their unexpected 4-1 dismantling of Swansea at the weekend. The game tonight has huge significance for Town’s season, a positive outcome will help fans to believe our awful recent run ended last Saturday but a defeat could leave us thinking Saturday was just a fever dream, a freak one-off and we’re still deep in trouble. The last time we played Derby they were in dreadful shape and we won the game despite not being all the great ourselves. Wayne Rooney’s managerial career started recently at Derby and he’s presided over an upturn in form that has pulled the Rams out of the relegation zone and returned them to winning ways (though I’ve got my reservations about Rooney as a manager, which you can read about at the end of...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Newcastle United

I’m laughably bad at predicting Huddersfield Town lineups, but that doesn’t stop me giving it a go anyway. With so little Huddersfield Town news for the last couple of weeks due to our early exit from the FA Cup, it’s nice to be able to have a game to look forward to this weekend. In case Town fans have forgotten, we’re still on a disastrous win-less run that goes all the way back to the victory over Wolves last November. I remember coming away from the game in Wolverhampton feeling confident that performance was a turning point for our season. Sadly it would be David Wagner’s last victory as Huddersfield Town manager. New boss Jan Siewert has a few selection decisions to make ahead of the Newcastle game in pursuit of his first victory. Here’s how I think we’ll lineup. Lössl to retu...
Selection headaches facing David Wagner against Crystal Palace

Selection headaches facing David Wagner against Crystal Palace

Matches
After a seemingly endless international break, Huddersfield Town return to Premier League action against Crystal Palace later today. Town’s last game was a promising performance against Everton, but we're still waiting for our first victory of the season. A key part of getting a good result against Palace will be to get the team selection right. Here are a few of the tricky decisions David Wagner is facing when he picks his team… How does Kongolo fit into the defence? Terence Kongolo has been one of the standout players for Town so far this season, so it seems unthinkable to drop him. However, it also seems unlikely that the pairing of Zanka and Schindler would be broken up either. The lack of a high-quality left-back allowed the option of playing Kongolo in his less favoured posit...
PL Predictions: Liverpool to win it; Town safe; Brighton, Southampton and Newcastle down

PL Predictions: Liverpool to win it; Town safe; Brighton, Southampton and Newcastle down

News, Opinion
Everyone else seems to be doing Premier League predictions, so with the new season just hours away, I thought I’d do mine. I’ve got absolutely no more insight into these things than the average fan, so don’t expect me to be even close to being accurate. In fact, you’re welcome to save this link and set a reminder on your phone to mock me for my stupidity in May next year. Here’s how I think the league is going to shape up. It’s a long image, and if you scroll past it my explanations for these predictions at the bottom. Where will Huddersfield Town finish in the Premier League? I’m thinking we can finish thirteenth this season. This would put us safely clear of the relegation scrap and proving we’re capable of staying in the Premier League for a little while longer. This may be a t...

Predictions for the Brighton away game: Tactics, starting XI, and score

Huddersfield Town head into the business end of the season now, with just six games remaining. We’re hovering perilously over the relegation zone in 16th place, with three of our last games against top-six opposition there’s pressure on Town to start picking up points. Today's game against Brighton is a chance to do just that. Brighton aren’t clear of trouble yet either, a win for Town will see them draw level with the Seagulls on 34 points for the season. They have a similarly tricky run in as Town, so will also be eager to get a result today. Tactics Town should play against the Seagulls I can understand why David Wagner tried to play a defensive system against Newcastle last weekend, and we’d be celebrating his tactical acumen if we’d have been able to score a couple of breakaw...

Predictions for Huddersfield Town v Brighton: teams, scoreline, and tactics

Town will look to break their four game losing streak agaisnt Brighton and Hove Albion at the John Smith’s Stadium this weekend. Here’s the TerrierSpirit.com predictions for the game, including the likely tactics, starting XI and scoreline. David Wagner’s tactics to beat Brighton I think playing a fellow newly-promoted team at home gives David Wagner a chance to revert back to the typical brand of football he likes Town to play. In recent games, it’s felt like our tactics have been a reaction to the opposition but on Saturday we should play our natural game. This means a 4-2-3-1 formation, with overlapping wingbacks, wingers taking up inside-forward positions to support the striker, and a number ten dictating play and creating chances. We’ve drifted away from some of the tactics that ...

Everton away predictions – lineup, tactics, and score

Matches, Opinion
Huddersfield Town take a trip to Goodison Park this weekend to play Everton, in a game that would be described as a relegation six pointer. Town and Everton are each on fifteen points in the league, with Everton’s superior goal difference giving them the slight edge. Here’s a look at how I think Town will approach this game and what the outcome could be. David Wagner’s tactics to beat Everton Wagner experimented with a 3-4-2-1 formation on Wednesday night, to match up with Arsenal. Having Cranie come in and play as an extra centre-back made sense but didn’t lead to the water-tight defence we hoped for. I think we’ll revert back to the usual 4-2-3-1 system for Everton. The lack of goals away from home is an issue, so playing with three attackers behind the main striker should give us so...
