Huddersfield Town players post social media updates following Swansea victory

Huddersfield Town players post social media updates following Swansea victory

Social media
The spirit within the team was obvious for all to see in the game against Swansea yesterday, with Huddersfield Town's players showing a togetherness that suggests the squad are starting to bond into a team. There was further evidence of this online, as the players took to social media to savour the victory. Frazier Campbell sees the funny side of things https://twitter.com/FraizerCampbell/status/1317498994935955456 One of the team's jokers, Campbell shared a picture someone had made to make fun out of the way he jumped out of the way of Koroma's goal-bound shot (the picture and Hoggy's response can be seen below). The mini-Messi comment, I'm guessing, refers to Toffolo's continual popping up in the penalty area and coming very close to scoring two yesterday. Man of th...

7 thoughts about Huddersfield Town’s draw with Manchester United U23s

Thoughts about Huddersfield Town's draw with Manchester United U23s Huddersfield Town participated in a high-scoring friendly against Manchester United Under 23s yesterday afternoon. It was the second and final preseason friendly for the team before their first competitive game next Saturday. Here are some of my thoughts on the game and what it means for Huddersfield Town. Another enjoyable friendly After a series of tense but stale games during lockdown it’s been refreshing to watch Town play with more freedom and less pressure. This isn’t an attempt to diminish the achievements of Danny Cowley to guide Town to survival but the friendlies this week have hinted towards the new vision at Huddersfield Town and its much better to watch. It’s no surprise that Town have failed to keep clea...
Defeat at Man United, preview of Fulham, and a transfer rumour roundup

Defeat at Man United, preview of Fulham, and a transfer rumour roundup

Matches, Opinion, Transfers
I’m a bit pushed for time, so this is going to be a lightning quick post about Town’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester United, a brief preview of the Fulham game, and some of the transfer rumours I've heard about that involve Town. Enjoy! Some random thoughts about Manchester United 3-1 Huddersfield Town Normally I’d flesh these ideas out into full, semi-coherent paragraphs, but here are the bullet points: The atmosphere at Old Trafford is abysmal. Town fans did an excellent job of out singing the rest of the stadium. I guess they call it “The Theatre of Dreams” because you can have a nap in peace for 85 minutes of every game. On a similar note, when the board went up to announce the injury time the stadium was half-empty. The people in the home end weren’t really Manchester United “fans...

Watford 3-0 Huddersfield – Player ratings after a dismal defeat

Matches, Opinion
After a series of promising performances without a win to show from them, Huddersfield Town hoped something would change against Watford. Sadly it did, rather than playing well and losing we changed to playing poorly and losing. Most of our recent defeats have had a "What if..." feeling to them, where we've blamed our bad luck, bad referees, and too much paint on the goalposts denying Town. Against Watford we just weren't good enough. There were brief flashes of promise, but generally it was a poor performance, and too many players had bad games. Here's exactly what I thought of each of Town's players... Jonas Lössl - 5 out of 10 Couldn’t do much about the first goal, but may feel like he should have saved the second, which was fired in from a tight angle. A last ditch clearance avoid...
The 3 basic mistakes that led to Huddersfield Town’s 3-1 defeat to Leicester

The 3 basic mistakes that led to Huddersfield Town’s 3-1 defeat to Leicester

Matches, Opinion
Huddersfield Town were defeated 3-1 by Leicester City, in a match that Town were punished for a series of silly mistakes. While we also spurned good opportunities at the other end, I’ll remember this game for how easily we let our opponents score against us. Here are my thoughts on the individual errors that led to the goals... Erik Durm has a rush of blood to the head Leicester first goal was the sort that you don’t see many teams concede. Town had a corner but contrived to turn our advantage to Leicester having three players running clear through on our goal. There were a few people you could point the finger at for this goal, but the biggest error came from Erik Durm. He was one of the players hanging back to defend against the counter, and left his post to intercept a loose bal...
Huddersfield Town 0-0 Cardiff City – Player ratings (One player gets 2/10)

Huddersfield Town 0-0 Cardiff City – Player ratings (One player gets 2/10)

Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City played out a drab goalless draw, where there were few chances and the main talking point was Jonathan Hogg’s red card. Before the game it had been billed as the start of our season, but it felt more like a false start. Here’s my player ratings from the game… Ben Hamer - N/A A defensive mixup early on meant he had to rush out and got tangled up with an onrushing Cardiff played. Had to come off injured too early to give him a score for this game. Terence Kongolo - 8 out of 10 I’ve been critical of Kongolo’s attacking ability when he’s playing as a leftback, but he was great against Cardiff. He made some excellent tackles in defense, but he really shone when going forward and was the only Town player that looked capable of getting through Cardiff’s de...
What went wrong for Hudersfield Town in their 6-1 drubbing to Man City?

What went wrong for Hudersfield Town in their 6-1 drubbing to Man City?

Huddersfield Town fell to their heaviest defeat in their (admittedly short) Premier League history to a sensational Manchester City team. It was a game where little went right for Town, and Manchester City took full advantage of our defensive frailties. Here’s a quick look at some of the reasons this was a bad day at the office for Town... The opposition It’s easy to look at start blaming Town for this result, but it’s important to acknowledge that we were up against an excellent team. Manchester City were by far the best team in last season’s Premier League. Not only that, they’re being frequently compared to the all-time best Premier League teams (and plenty before the Premier League started too). There was an abundance of talent on the pitch for Manchester City yesterday, and wh...

6 thoughts about Town’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea

The dust has settled on Town’s opening day 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League and I feel better about it now I’ve had time to think on what happened. The result is a bit disappointing, the performance had good and bad points, but overall I think it wasn’t that bad a day. Here are a few of my thoughts about the game... The tactics weren't wrong but they could have been executed better Playing open and expansive football is likely to lead to a pummelling against the top teams. We experienced it last season against Tottenham, and were similarly exposed in the first half of the friendly against Lyon when we tried to press them high up the field. Lyon spurned their opportunities, but there must have been four occasions where they broke our press and their attackers flooded pas...

Huddersfield Town 0-3 Chelsea: Player ratings

Matches
Huddersfield Town suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 3-0 at home to Chelsea. Town were somewhat unlucky to go in at half-time two goals down, but struggled to get into the game in the second half and didn’t do enough to deserve anything from the game. Despite the scoreline, it wasn’t that bad a performance. You could argue long into the night about the right tactical approach Town should take in these games, but I think we’re always likely to lose against top six teams, regardless of the system. Chelsea punished Town on the few occasions they opened us up, and we couldn’t finish our chances. It’s important not to draw too much into this result or performance. We’ll have better days than today this season, we just need to learn from the experience and move on. Here’s...

Don’t panic! 5 reasons to not worry about defeat to Accrington Stanley

If you’d have told me 30 years ago that Town would lose 3-0 to Accrington Stanley one day, I’d assume you were either lying or Town had gone bust and were playing in an amateur league. Thankfully it was just a friendly game which lead to this defeat, and it’s not worth getting too upset about it. Reaction from Town fans after game was mixed. Many accept it’s just another opportunity for the players to get fit, others were behaving like the sky was falling in. While losing 3-0 to a side that are associated as being a punchline to a joke isn’t a great feeling, it really doesn’t matter much either. Here are five reasons to not be too concerned by this defeat... It’s only a friendly It’s our second game of preseason and the players have only been back a couple of weeks. These games a...
