At the time of writing it's not official but it seems increasingly likely that Lewis O'Brien will shortly both be confirmed as a Nottingham Forest player (alongside his best friend Harry Toffolo). It stings that our best player will be leaving us for the team that knocked us out in the playoff final, but we’ll be getting a transfer fee that’s rumoured to be in the region of £10m for him and it has been clear for over a year now that he was heading towards the Premier League, with or without Town. I’ve been putting off writing this article because I’ve not wanted to dwell on Sunday’s game. Despite thinking before the game that I wasn’t too bothered about the outcome, defeat stung and the manner of the defeat even more so.  Huddersfield Town lost the game 1-0 to a Levi Colwilll own goal but the match will be remembered for two penalty decisions that weren’t given to Town in the second half of the game despite VAR being available. VAR, bad decisions and conspiracy theories From my position in the stands I could see the contact when Toffolo went over and was surprised when Moss didn’t give the penalty. Both teams have proven themselves to be more than capable over the course of the season and it should be a good game.  Winning individual battles is a big part of how any game is decided and today is no different. It’s getting close now! After a very long wait and a lot of fussing about tickets, the playoff final is almost here. After 46 league games and two playoff semi-final matches, everything boils down to tomorrow’s winner-takes-all encounter against Nottingham Forest.  Carlos said that he has a virtually fully fit squad to pick from for tomorrow’s game in his pre match press conference. If I’m honest, I’m not sure I believe him and he may just be keeping his cards close to his chest to avoid giving an advantage to Forest. Despite not being too bothered about going up, I do desperately want Town to win the game anyway. Notthingham Forest have sold out their allocation for the playoff final on Sunday and many of their fans have been left without a ticket. Some of these frustrated fans are living up to their nickname of the Tricky Trees, as they have taken to social media to try and con Huddersfield Town fans into buying them tickets. We have not yet sold out our allocation and tickets are on general sale for anyone who wants one, with one significant caveat. You can only buy a ticket in the Town end if you have previous booking history on the Huddersfield Town system. Huddersfield Town clung on to a 1-0 lead and emerged from their match against Nottingham Forest with all three points in a gritty performance that also required a hefty slice of luck to see us over the line. While the performance might not have been perfect, the victory leaves Town still in the playoff positions, at least until the teams below us play their games in hand. This game was Town’s third consecutive victory and caps off a fine finish to 2021 after a poor run of form in November and the first half of December. I’m still not convinced about the current Town team and coaching set up if I’m honest but the results don’t lie and Town are, for now at least, genuine playoff contenders. Huddersfield Town are in South Wales today to take on Swansea. After losing last week it feels like today’s game could offer a sign of whether the Forest game was a blip or if our previous good form was actually just a prolonged period of good fortune that has now come to an end. Is Carlos the messiah or a very naughty boy? It still feels hard to tell. I’m not going to just talk about today’s game in this post. I used to work with a Forest fan that became inexplicably cross whenever I referred to her team as Notts Forest rather than saying Nottingham Forest. I never understood it but as a tribute to her, I’ll be referring to Town’s opponents today as Notts Forest despite knowing full well that isn’t the correct name. That’s how petty I am.  Back to Huddersfield Town, and things are going surprisingly well as we sit in fourth place in the table, are picking up decent results regularly and look like a good team all of a sudden. Town's win over Nottingham Forest settled many Town fans' nerves at the weekend. It doesn't guarantee safety but it's a huge stride towards it.  There were good things and bad things in the match but ultimately, Town took their chances and Forest didn't, and that was the main difference between two fairly poor sides.  Here are a few of my thoughts on the match.  We could have been out of the game in the first 20 minutes  Town were really bad in the opening stages of this game. We played like we were half asleep for twenty minutes and could easily have conceded two or three goals purely from silly mistakes at the back.  I'm not completely sure what the problem was.
