A dirty win, an odd take on 4-4-2, a sneaky elbow, blustery conditions – Notes on Huddersfield Town v Millwall

Huddersfield Town scrapped away in blustery conditions to knick a last-gasp winner against Millwall that they just about deserved on Saturday. It was an ugly, ugly game where neither team covered themselves in glory but Town applied the most pressure and in the 94th minute they achieved their reward when Matty Pearson's excellent header was saved and Rhys Healey nodded in the loose ball.  While Town's Championship status is far from secure, if they do stay up, this will be the game we'll look back on as the turning point where we went from likely relegation to having a chance of survival. Not only did Healey's goal give us all three points, it also gave Town belief, momentum and some good feelings at just the right time in the season. A dirty win - as promised  Andre Br...

Huddersfield Town v Millwall – predicted Town XI, opposition preview and guessing the score

Must-win is an overused term in football these days but I think Huddersfield Town’s match against Millwall today is one that has potential to define their season. Victory could set them on course for survival and anything else leaves them with a very tricky task with five games remaining. It probably isn't over for Town if they lose but negative results elsewhere and the morale sapping impact a home defeat to a fellow struggler could mean League One would beckon. On a positive note, victory would give Town a decent chance of pulling out of the relegation zone given Birmingham face Leicester today and either way it will leave them with a more achievable points target from the remaining fixtures in the season, not to mention the fact it keeps Millwall within touching distance too.  ...

Huddersfield Town beat Millwall on Saturday and given it was such a good result for the Terriers, I’m going to write another article to dig into what went on. While there will be better performances for Town this season, there most likely won't be one that comes as more of a surprise as we turned a spell of indifferent form into a decent performance that warranted a win against a team that had won their last four games. The next challenge is for Town to build on their hard-fought draw at Middlesbrough and impressive win against Millwall and turn it into a proper run of good form. If they can do that then they may well pull themselves clear of the relegation zone before the World Cup break comes in a few weeks' time. That would be a lovely pre-Christmas present for fans. But before we get ...

“The closest thing we have to a Lewis O’Brien replacement” – Player ratings for Huddersfield Town’s win over Millwall

After I confidently predictee defeat before the game, regular readers of this blog will have not been surprised to have seen Huddersfield Town’s players make me look silly. On Saturday afternoon Town put in a performance that few saw coming and outplayed Millwall for 90 minutes and came out worthy winners, even if it took a goal that required an outrageous piece of fortune to win the game for the Terriers. While Millwall fans might curse the circumstances that led to the winning goal, few will argue that Town were the better team on the day and, if anything, I think 1-0 flattered the London team and Town really should have converted their dominant spells into a more commanding lead. That minor quibble aside, it was an excellent afternoon’s work for Town, so expect generous scores to f...

Huddersfield Town start a hectic period of games with a tricky home fixture against Millwall later today. It’s the first of a sequence of five games in 15 days and with Town currently sitting bottom of the league, it’s hard not to see these next few weeks as being absolutely pivotal to Town’s season. If we can pick up a few wins then we can claw ourselves back into contention but if we continue to flounder then we could head into the World Cup break adrift at the bottom of the table. Millwall are having a good season so far, after being tipped to struggle after losing their star player, Jed Wallace, in the summer. They’ve been particularly good recently, having won their last four and are undefeated in five. Whereas Town’s recent form has been faltering at best. Last weekend’s battling...
What do MK Dons and Millwall fans think of Kasumu and Mahoney signing for Huddersfield Town?

What do MK Dons and Millwall fans think of Kasumu and Mahoney signing for Huddersfield Town?

News, Social media, Transfers
Huddersfield Town made their first signing of the summer fairly early and we’ve had to wait a seeming eternity for them to announce their second and third signings of the summer. But we’ve finally made a couple of acquisitions and I have something to write about! So I’ve pushed aside my plans to write an investigative piece about Mick Wadsworth's disastrous time in Africa and instead I’ve looked into what our new signings fans really think about them.  In case you didn’t pick up the news yesterday, Town signed David Kasumu and Connor Mahoney yesterday. Both were free agents but as Kasumu is only 22 years old we have had to pay compensation to MK Dons for his development (someone on Twitter guessed £60,000 - which seems low but not crazy).  I’ve waded through the online com...

Huddersfield Town’s unbeaten run came to an end last night when they came up against a Millwall team that outhought and outfought them on the night. It’s hard to get too upset about a defeat when we’ve not lost in the league since November but it’s fair to say that several players were off their best on the night.  Despite Town starting the game strongly, Millwall controlled the game well and deserved all three points. While it would be easy to say that Town were awful, I think it was just a slightly jaded performance which wasn’t enough to overcome a team that are usually tough to beat but are also enjoying a good spell of form.  Nicholls - 9 out of 10 He made a string of incredible saves over the course of the game as well as a few regulation ones too, the push onto t...

Huddersfield Town fought hard and came away with all three points in a fairly stale encounter with Millwall. Maybe it’s my blue and white tinted spectacles, but I think that Town genuinely deserved to win the game even though the ref missed a blatant penalty that could have seen Millwall equalise in the dying moments. Few players played badly yesterday even though the combination of their efforts wasn’t exactly sparkling football. In fact, Town were fairly ordinary for long spells but were organised enough to keep Millwall out and managed to score yet another set piece goal thanks to Sorba Thomas’ delivery. Here are my player ratings: Lee Nicholls - 6 out of 10 Had a horrible moment in the first half where he passed straight to a Millwall attacker but was bailed out by Colwill...

Apologies for the recent radio silence on the blog. A hectic few weeks in my personal life have meant that my opportunities to write about Town have been limited. At least things have gone relatively smoothly while I’ve been out of action, as Town sit just outside the top-six as part of a large clump of mid-table Championship teams on the same number of points. Town entertain Millwall this afternoon, another one of the seven teams with 21 points on the board. It should be a decent battle between two teams that have done fairly well so far this season. Millwall, as always, will provide a tough physical presence and Town will have to decide if they want to mix it with them or try to play around them.  Here’s how I think we’ll line up this afternoon: Goalkeeper: Lee Nicholls Sign...

Huddersfield Town host Millwall tonight and will be hoping this game will be a chance to stop our three-game losing streak. Having beaten Millwall once already and the Lions currently being on a poor run of form themselves, this game isn't as daunting for Town as it might have looked when the fixtures came out. Carlos Corberán was forced to field a weakened team against Watford at the weekend due to a glut of injuries but the arrival of Richard Keogh and others returning from injury mean we've a few more options available this evening. Here's my predicted lineup… Goalkeeper: Schofield After his blunder at the weekend, he'll be hoping for an uneventful evening tonight. I'm confident that he'll have learned from his mistake and any dodgy looking back pass will go directly to Row Z withou...
