Huddersfield Town crashed out of the League Cup on Tuesday night after losing 3-2 to Middlesbrough. The scoreline flattered the Terriers a bit, as the early sending off of Jaheim Headley made it very hard for a weakened Town team to compete with Boro despite Tow taking an early 1-0 lead.  Even though there was a difference in quality between the two teams, there was quite a lot to like about Town's performance and it hopefully left Neil Warnock feeling more confident about the ability levels of his backup players. Harratt opens his account for the season Kian Harratt's first Town goal of the year was a bit of a team effort as it came as a result of some excellent pressing work. Their defender coughed up the ball to Josh Austerfield, who quickly played Harratt in. B...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup

On Saturday, I achieved the rare feat of predicting the full starting eleven for Town correctly. While I'd love to say this was down to my powers of prediction improving, after years of wayward forecasts, it speaks more to the limited options available to Neil Warnock. Tonight's game against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup, however, gives him an opportunity to see if any of his backup options might be worth giving a go in the league. I'm not going to debate the rights and wrongs of fielding a weaker team in the cups, as we've already had confirmation that this is the plan, instead I'm going to try my best to pick the likely team Neil Warnock will go with tonight. Maxwell Keepers don't need resting, as they don't run for miles during games but I think it's useful to give the back...

Basketball is a game that is spoiled because there are too many points scored. One team attacks and scores, the other team attacks and scores, then one might miss, then the other scores, over and over. It’s too easy to get the ball in the hoop and scoring isn’t important enough to be meaningful. That’s why football, in my opinion, is more enjoyable to watch, there are far fewer scoring opportunities so goals are far more important and enjoyable when they do get scored. But the downside is that you get occasional games where no goals are scored - like when Town played Middlesbrough yesterday. In fact, if you were going to use this game as an advert for the sport of football you would do little to tempt any neutral into ever watching the sport ever again. It was a dire game which will no...

Huddersfield Town put in one of their best performances of the season in a masterclass of counter attacking football that saw them win 2-0 despite spurning a string of presentable chances. Maybe it was a bad day at the office for Middlesbrough but Town hardly put a foot wrong despite only even though they only had about a third of the possession. Expect plenty of high scores as every player stuck to their task over the course of the game, kept a solid shape and were a constant threat when going forward. Lee Nicholls - 7 out of 10 Not his busiest afternoon between the sticks but he snaffled up everything that came near him, including a few threatening balls that sneaked past our defence. A lot of the skill in Nicholl’s game comes in keeping the players in front of him organised we...

Town continue their hectic run of games with a trip to Middlesbrough this lunchtime. It comes with just two days gap since their somewhat disappointing draw with QPR on Good Friday and the tight turnaround means it's likely Carlos will shuffle the pack when making his team selection today.  Middlesbrough have become a very good side under Chris Wilder since he took over earlier this season and they are in with a good shout of reaching the playoffs. Given the stiff opposition and the tired legs in the camp it will require a fine balance of keeping things fresh but playing the strongest possible lineup.  Here's how I think we'll look today…  Goalkeeper: Nicholls  There's very little to say about Nicholls selection, he's one of the best keepers in the league a...
