Thoughts on Kamberi, Lowton, Luton, HTSA questions, loan recalls & January transfer window

News, Transfers
Rather than try and rush out five blogposts on various different Town-related topics in one day, I thought I’d do a quick roundup article to cover off all the relevant goings on that occurred this week for Town. It’s been a pretty busy week, with the aftermath of the Luton game to pick over, two new arrivals, the supporters’ association publicly demanding a meeting with the club and plenty of transfer rumours and plenty of loan recalls.  Here are my thoughts on the latest Huddersfield Town goings on, in no particular order… Looking back on Luton I’m way too late to get too deep into the Luton game last Sunday and I think the bones have already been picked over that game. Here are my bullet point thoughts on the game: Luton had more cutting edge in the final third and that...

The hectic fixture schedule of the Championship is even more exaggerated this season with the addition of the World Cup break in November so Town have a very tight turnaround between two away games. In fact, it must have hardly been worth heading back up north on Saturday night to only travel back down again, presumably on Monday afternoon.  The good thing about the quick turnaround is that Huddersfield Town's players have an opportunity to redeem themselves after one of their worst showings in a season that is already full of poor performances despite us only being at the start of October. Luton Town away has been a notoriously tough hunting ground for us in recent seasons, possibly divine justice for the hubris of THAT chant but Mark Fotheringham will want to see an improved per...

It would be easy to make the argument that Huddersfield Town didn’t deserve to win their playoff game against Luton Town on Monday night. You could reel off a stream of statistics that prove Luton were the dominant team on the night but one statistic tells you everything you need to know, and that’s goals scored: Huddersfield Town 1-0 Luton Town. So despite needing a string of excellent saves and wasteful finishes to stay in the game, Town came out on top and triggered jubilant scenes as fans and players partied on the pitch after the full time whistle. Here are a few of my thoughts on the game. Luton deserved it  The truth is that Luton should have been out of sight before half time. Town had a strangely underwhelming first-half performance and repeatedly allowed Luton t...

Huddersfield Town take on Luton tonight in their most important game for a very long time. At least since the West Brom home game we won at the end of the Danny Cowley era to secure our Championship survival in 2020. Or maybe the draw at Stamford Bridge that secured our Premier League survival in 2018. Or maybe even the playoff final in 2017. Whichever way you look at it, tonight’s game is a big deal.  Our 1-1 draw last Friday means that both teams head into the game on equal footing. Away goals don’t count for anything extra, so we start from scratch tonight and the winner on the night goes to Wembley. It may take extra time or penalties but one of these two teams will have to come out on top. Here are a few of the questions I have ahead of the game. Will Sorba Thomas start?&nbs...

Huddersfield Town came away from Kenilworth Road with a 1-1 draw that sets up a winner-takes-all game at the John Smith's Stadium on Monday night. It was an evenly balanced game where each team had spells of dominance but a draw was an overall fair reflection of the game.  Both sides can feel aggrieved that obvious penalty decisions weren't given but at least the referee's two mistakes canceled each other out. Some other less vital decisions weren't quite right either but thankfully the poor officiating didn't spoil a tense but enjoyable encounter.  Here are a few of my thoughts on the game…  Town did well to cling on when they were struggling  The first half was not always pretty from a Town perspective. We did counter-attack well at times but long stretch...

It's nearly here! Town secured their place in the playoffs weeks ago, so it’s been a long wait but it's almost time for the playoffs. Town take on Luton at Kenilworth Road tonight in the first leg of their semi-final tie. Town are in good form at the moment and have players coming back from injury but Luton are a tough opponent so it won’t be easy. Here’s who I think Carlos wiil pick for this vital game… Goalkeeper: Nicholls Jamal Blackman did fine last weekend against Bristol City but he wasn’t Nicholls. There wasn’t a lot for the keeper to do in fairness but I missed having that sense of calm and organisation that Nicholls brings to the pitch. I’m not sure Lee Nicholls is the best keeper that I’ve seen in my time supporting Town but he may be the one that I’ve got the most conf...

It feels like a long time since Town beat Hull a week last Friday, so tonight's match against Luton can't come soon enough for me. It's fourth plays fifth in the league and the winner of tonight's game (if there is one) will feel that they have a very good chance of making the playoffs after a few other promotion chasers dropped points over the weekend.  Luton are a tough opponent and will not make things easy for Town. They don't have any superstar players but work incredibly hard and can be tough to break down. It's exactly the kind of team Town typically struggle against and tonight is a test of whether they can break down a stubborn defence without leaving the backdoor open.  Here's how I think Town will lineup.  Goalkeeper - Nicholls Lee Nicholls seems like...

Huddersfield Town scraped a point from yesterday’s game against Luton but were far from convincing in a match that featured all the usual flaws we’ve got used to seeing in Town since Christmas. The game finished with Town on top and playing better but there were long spells in this game where Town looked very poor against a disciplined and hard-working Luton team that probably deserved to win more than we deserved a point. It’s hard to feel positive about Town at the moment and judging by the state of Town fans on Twitter at the moment, there is a rising sense of anger among many. This anger seems to be mainly targeted at the board and the chairman rather than the players or the coaches but if this winless run continues that could soon change. Anyway, let’s look at each individual p...

The return of selection headaches – Predicted Huddersfield Town lineup to take on Luton

Huddersfield Town take on Luton later today in a key game for the Terrier's season. A win could steady the ship after our recent poor run, a defeat could spark even more fan outrage after a transfer deadline day which left many fans feeling like the sky was falling in.  The good news for this game is that Carlos has some genuine selection headaches after weeks of the team more or less picking itself due to there being so few available senior players. January acquisitions Keogh, Aarons and Holmes are all potential starters and Hogg is due to return from injury too.  Here's who I would pick for today's game…  Goalkeeper: Schofield  Despite Town signing Jayson Somebodyorother on deadline day, we're almost certain to keep Schofield in nets for now. The signing ...

Huddersfield Town will play Luton tomorrow, hoping to register their first win on the calendar year and break the five game winless run we're on. There's even more pressure on this game as a wide section of the fanbase are feeling dejected after the transfer deadline passed without a new striker being added to the ranks. The official line may be that we're happy with our options up front but the undignified scramble on deadline day to sign any striker with a pulse suggests the club realised, too late, that we do definitely need more backup for Fraizer Campbell. Town's recent poor run has meant we've gone from comfortably midtable to skirting perilously close to the relegation battle (or potentially right in the scrap if games in hand go against us). Here are some of the questions ...
