New arrivals soften the blow of bruising defeat to Walsall

I had a much gloomier article planned about Town's miserable Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Walsall, where Matty Pearson's silly red card incident led to Town going 2-0 up then collapsing to a 3-2 defeat. But Town made a double loan swoop from Wolverhampton Wanderers yesterday which addressed some of the biggest issues raised by the game on Tuesday night, so perhaps the tone of this article can now be a bit chirpier. An absolute pleasure to watch – Notes of Huddersfield Town’s 3-0 win over Morecambe

Huddersfield Town coasted to victory against Morecambe on Tuesday night in one of the most one-sided games of football that you could ever wish to see. Despite making eight changes to the starting lineup from Saturday's victory over Peterborough, the team kept its fluency and played with the same high-pressing and direct attacking style. It reaped rewards within 30 seconds against Morecambe and the game was over as a contest from that point onwards. If it ever really was one. Not that I'm complaining though, after years of being rubbish, I'm not in a hurry to start whining that Town are winning games too easily! A daft red, late rally, exciting prospects, good spells & a failed early kickoff experiment – Notes on Huddersfield Town’s league cup exit to Boro

Huddersfield Town crashed out of the League Cup on Tuesday night after losing 3-2 to Middlesbrough. The scoreline flattered the Terriers a bit, as the early sending off of Jaheim Headley made it very hard for a weakened Town team to compete with Boro despite Tow taking an early 1-0 lead. Even though there was a difference in quality between the two teams, there was quite a lot to like about Town's performance and it hopefully left Neil Warnock feeling more confident about the ability levels of his backup players. Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup

On Saturday, I achieved the rare feat of predicting the full starting eleven for Town correctly. While I'd love to say this was down to my powers of prediction improving, after years of wayward forecasts, it speaks more to the limited options available to Neil Warnock. Tonight's game against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup, however, gives him an opportunity to see if any of his backup options might be worth giving a go in the league. I'm not going to debate the rights and wrongs of fielding a weaker team in the cups, as we've already had confirmation that this is the plan, instead I'm going to try my best to pick the likely team Neil Warnock will go with tonight. Huddersfield Town return to competitive action this afternoon when they take on Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. The South Yorkshire side are now a league below Town, following last season’s relegation but the bookies make them marginal favourites for the game, presumably because they have home advantage and Town’s record in cups in recent years is horrendous. It’s pretty common for clubs to be ambivalent towards the league cup these days but Huddersfield Town seem to take that a step further into open hostility. Huddersfield Town were knocked out of the league Cup by Rochdale in a game that highlighted some of the issues Huddersfield Town currently face. Going out of the cup isn't the worst thing to happen but the manner of the defeat was disappointingly familiar to Town fans. It's too early to write this season off but there were some troubling signs in this match. It now seems obvious that Carlos Corberán has a very difficult job on his hands. Huddersfield Town have their first competitive game of the new season today against League One's Rochdale. Town's preseason has been blighted by injury and has only seen them play two friendly games, with many first teamers missing from these games for various reasons. It's very hard to make accurate team predictions but Carlos Corberán dropped a few hints about his plans in his press conference yesterday.
