Huddersfield Town lost to Coventry yesterday. Defeat is a familiar feeling to Town fans this season but this one was a particularly hard one to take, as it was a poor performance, with inept management from the sidelines and hinted towards worrying signs for the rest of the season.  While Town are still within touching distance of safety in the league table, their inability to create decent chances against a Coventry team that were low on confidence and there for the taking is deeply concerning. The lack of ideas, both on and off the field meant there was little to feel positive about after the game. Here are some of my thoughts on the game: Hamer and Gyokeres the difference between the two teams I thought this game was fairly evenly matched for long periods. Town had the majo...

After last weekend's game against Blackpool was postponed due to a frozen pitch, it feels like forever since we had some football to talk about. So I'm actually pleased this game was moved forward to this weekend, even though it was harsh on those fans that had already made travel plans for the previous midweek date it was planned for.  Had this game not been rearranged to today, we'd have faced another Town-less Saturday, and as much as they are a near-constant source of disappointment and frustration, I actually really miss it when they don't play. I'm not going to pull at the thread of why I seem to enjoy something that also brings me such pain, this is a football blog, not therapy. Instead, I'm going to try and predict the team Mark Fotheringham will select against Coventry today. ...

Huddersfield Town have made the long journey to Norwich for tonight’s game where they will be hoping to pick up more points after getting their first victory of the season against Stoke on Saturday. Our last competitive game at Carrow Road was a 7-0 drubbing back in April 2021, when Manchester United loanee, Joel Perreira, made a rare appearance in goals and Town put in one of their worst performances of the Carlos Corberan era. Thankfully, Norwich are nothing like the team they were the last time we visited them, after failing to win any of their first three league games of their return to the Championship they are in poor form, at least in terms of results. Here are a few of my thoughts ahead of the game. Predicted Huddersfield Town lineup to take on Noriwch Usually I’d dedicat...

Huddersfield Town beat Coventry yesterday in a game that will have little influence on the final league placings for Town but helped to maintain momentum and confidence ahead of the playoffs. There was also a notable contribution from Tino Anjorin when he came off the bench, which suggests he may finally be coming good at just the right time in our season. Coventry were a tough opponent and probably deserved more from the game. But a combination of wasteful finishing from them and good defending from us meant that their late goal was merely a consolation and Town took the three points. Here are some of my thoughts on the game. Were Town lucky? I mentioned above that Coventry probably deserved more out of this game and that’s been a familiar story all season. Town have the knack fo...

Huddersfield Town take on Coventry this afternoon in a rare Saturday three o'clock kickoff. Depending on your outlook, the game is a chance for Town to keep the possibility of a top-two finish alive, a chance to keep their form going and achieve the highest possible league position or it's of little more consequence than a preseason friendly.  As you'd expect, Carlos spoke in his press conference about how he is only focusing on this game, wants to respect the integrity of the competition and isn't worrying about the playoffs yet. But we've heard him say something similar before cup games and then made wholesale changes anyway. I have a suspicion that he won't rest the entire best eleven because he'll want to maintain momentum and injuries means he's already forced into a few unwe...

Despite getting a draw against one of the league's better teams on Saturday, I was left with a bitter taste after sitting through the game. Despite Town's respectable league position, alarm bells are ringing for many fans and it feels like we're a team on the slide.  Coventry played fairly well but most teams would have when their opponent allowed them so much time on the ball and space to get away shots at will. Had Coventry been slightly clinical with their finishing we could have been hammered in this game. Though if Matty Pearson had nodded home his straightforward chance in the second half we would almost certainly have gone on to win, so it's not worth dwelling on hypothetical too much.  Here are a few more of my thoughts on the game: Defending a lead badly  ...

It's a couple of days since Town's 1-1 draw with Coventry and it's already a struggle to remember anything of great consequence from the game. Despite this season being exceptional for off the pitch reasons, we had to sit through another unexceptional Town performance where a point was a little bit fortunate.  All the usual problems reared their head during the game and it was only results elsewhere that guaranteed Town's safety. In previous seasons beating the drop had been something to celebrate but this time it's slightly embarrassing as it doesn't feel like we deserve to survive after a woeful 2021. Playing three or four different formations at once  Could you confidently say what the formation was for Town on Saturday? I was preoccupied by this question for long sp...

Today is the penultimate game of Huddersfield Town's season and hopefully the day we can cast aside our relegation fears and hope for a better season next time around. If Town beat Coventry today then we've cleared the admittedly low bar of avoiding the drop or, more likely, we may fail to win and still survive because Derby and/or Rotherham fail to win their games.  Here's a preview of today's game.  Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Coventry  Goalkeeper: Schofield  Defence: Pipa, Edmonds-Green, Sarr, Toffolo  Midfield: Hogg, O'Brien, Eiting  Attack: Rowe, Ward, Koroma  It's hard to predict how different today's lineup will be. Carlos was emphatic in his press conference that he won't treat this game as an opportunity to experiment with his lin...

Last night saw Huddersfield Town draw against Coventry in a hard fought but unspectacular game which isn't likely to be a highlight of either side's season. I have very few strong feelings about this game. The point is useful but it could have been all three if we'd have taken our chances but we may have lost if it wasn't for some goal-line heroics from Edmonds-Green. Here's what I made of each player. Ryan Schofield - 7 out of 10 Some of the pot shots coming from Coventry suggested they wanted to test our young keeper and their analysts may have identified him as a weak link. If so, Schofield proved them wrong with every goal bound effort easily saved. His distribution was good too, with common sense used to decide whether to go short or not. Given the potato field of a pitch it made ...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Coventry – Back to the best team?

Last Saturday was a new low for this blog's attempts at predicting the lineup as Carlos defied expectations and played a weakened side against one of the league's best teams. Today's lineup will hopefully be a return of familiar faces after the replacements that came in on Saturday were almost universally poor in the 5-0 defeat to the Cherries. Here's how I think we'll lineup tonight. Goalkeeper: Schofield Hamer came off as a precaution at half time at the weekend but it seems he's likely to need at least this game to recover too after picking up a slight muscle strain. Schofield should therefore get a chance to impress his coach tonight. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him as he's now reaching the kind of age where he should be pushing himself into contention for the nu...
