Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Brentford today

Huddersfield Town return from the international break this lunchtime with a televised game against Brentford at the John Smith's Stadium. The Bees are the Championship's top scorers so far this season but a few poor results leaves them needing a good run to keep their automatic promotion ambitions alive.  Town will be hoping they can add points to their tally to reduce our relegation fears. Though it's likely to be a tough test for Corberán's men, as the away fixture against Brentford saw us handed a footballing lesson in a game where we barely laid a glove on the Bees.  Trying to be positive, the international break has seen some injured players move closer to fitness. So Carlos has more competition for places and should be able to choose a decent starting eleven today. H...

6 things I keep telling myself to try and feel less worried about Huddersfield Town

Yesterday's defeat to Brentford was bad, not just in terms of the result (which was largely expected) but because it revealed the obvious shortcomings at Huddersfield Town right now. I felt despondent about Town's chances this season at the final whistle but have since been trying to gee myself up and feel a bit better about our prospects. I'm not sure it's working but I thought I'd share my thoughts here anyway. Here are the things I say to myself to try and be a bit more positive. We're at the start of a project that will take time to bear fruit Huddersfield Town weren't immediately transformed under Wagner, Leeds weren't under Bielsa and Liverpool weren't under Klopp. Making a shift in philosophy takes time and can have a bumpy start. We’re probably going to need to be patient. We'v...
A rant about Huddersfield Town’s surrender to Brentford – 6 reasons defeat was inevitable

A rant about Huddersfield Town’s surrender to Brentford – 6 reasons defeat was inevitable

I try to be positive about Town even when we lose. Last week's defeat against Norwich featured plenty of encouraging signs and I felt relatively positive about the direction Town are now travelling in. Yesterday's defeat to Brentford was different, it was painful to watch at times. The gulf in quality between the two team was enormous and we played right into their hands. Please stop reading if you're hoping for silver linings or glimmers of hope. This article is a rant. I might try writing something more optimistic later but this article delves into why we were so terrible against Brentford. A game plan that couldn't have won the game When Danny Cowley took Town to Brentford last season he knew his players weren't as good as Brentford's, so he had to set up to be hard to beat. The res...
“He completely fell to pieces” – Brentford 3-0 Huddersfield – Player ratings

“He completely fell to pieces” – Brentford 3-0 Huddersfield – Player ratings

Huddersfield Town were beaten 3-0 by Brentford yesterday in the first league game in their new stadium. Despite Town dominating possession, Brentford were the only team that looked like winning yesterday’s game. This was not a pretty performance from Town and it showed just how far we have to go before we can consider ourselves equals to teams like Brentford. Here are my ratings for each of Town’s players. Ben Hamer - 6 out of 10 Hamer had a pretty good game apart from one moment. He made some decent saves and played some nice passes out from the back. Unfortunately he also played a pass that went straight to the opposition and on most days would have resulted in a goal but Toney squandered the opportunity when one-on-one with Hamer. There are some good signs coming from Hamer but he s...
Predicted Huddersfield Town lineup to take on Brentford – A defensive shakeup?

Predicted Huddersfield Town lineup to take on Brentford – A defensive shakeup?

Huddersfield Town take on Brentford later today and Carlos Corberán will have the job of trying to pick eleven Town players that can get something out of the game. Not an easy task given the players he has at his disposal. On the plus side, injuries and a general lack of numbers in our squad makes it easier to predict who we might see turn out for Town (but I'm sure I'll still manage to make a mess of predicting the starting eleven). Here's who I think Carlos will pick… Goalkeeper: Ben Hamer I thought that Hamer had a pretty good game against Norwich. He couldn't be blamed for the game's only goal and his distribution was quick and precise. It's going to take a long run of games like last weekend for Hamer to regain his confidence and the trust of Town fans. The longer he goes without...
