Huddersfield Town face Bournemouth today in a game that Town have to win to keep alive even a distant prospect of taking the second automatic promotion slot. While Town are only three points behind today’s visitors in the league, Bournemouth’s three games in hand over us mean it’s almost certain they’ll pull clear of Town unless we beat them today. I’m not sure automatic promotion is a realistic objective anyway but bouncing back from Wednesday’s poor showing against Millwall has to be a priority. “He seems to have given up” – Player ratings for Huddersfield Town’s defeat to Bournemouth

While defeat was fully expected against Bournemouth, it still hurts to see a team that are literally playing for their livelihoods surrender so meekly as Town did in the first half last night. The early stages of the second half saw the worst performing players subbed out and a small but significant improvement was apparent from the rejigged team. Bournemouth were pretty comfortable despite Hogg's headed goal that brought us within a goal of them. For all the improvements in the second half, we couldn't find an equaliser despite some promising play at times. I have a feeling my view of this game may be out of step with many fans, as I was fairly happy with the second half and even in the first half I thought many players were doing okay. Romero's zombie film, Dawn of the Dead, he depicted zombies returning to a shopping mall because their consumer instincts were so hard-wired into them that they still shuffled around the aisles even though they were technically dead. I shall be returning to the Town website to watch tonight's stream of the game against Bournemouth in a similar fashion. Not because I expect to be entertained or see my team triumph but out of muscle memory and grim routine. Huddersfield Town were soundly beaten on the south coast today against a Bournemouth team that won't have believed their luck after being gifted several goals following simple mistakes. Here are a few of my initial thoughts on the game. Feel free to add yours in the comments below. This article is a bit of an experiment. It might not be a full blown injury crisis but you could definitely call it an “injury pickle” that we face currently with Hogg, Schindler, Koroma and Stearman all recently succumbing to injuries. I’ve spoken many times before about how thin our squad is this season, so losing key players hits us harder than many other teams as the amount of experience and quality in our backup players is often not great. Just when it seemed like Huddersfield Town’s Premier League losing streak was going to run on forever, we pulled off a fabulous performance with a resounding victory against Bournemouth. We’re back! After a long wait, Town returned to winning ways with a fine performance over Bournemouth. More pleasing than the result was the manner in which we achieved it. The “Terrier Identity” was back, with aggressive pressing and attacking intent. It’s a pleasure to write these player rating articles after this kind of performance because there were so many players that played well. After widespread underperformance for quite a while, it’s good to see so many putting in a decent shift. This article isn't a witch hunt or a protracted moan about getting beaten 4-0 by Bournemouth. It's meant to be a look at the factors that led to us suffering a heavy defeat against a team we may have beaten on a different day. Key players were injured, suspended, on paternity leave, or jetlagged Before talking about the specifics of the game, it's worth noting we were missing some key players. Schindler has been our best player this season but was suspended following his red card in the West Brom game. Hogg was unavailable because his wife gave birth the night before (this is a completely acceptable reason to miss a day's work in my opinion, and I'm saddened by some of the comments I've seen about it). Town suffered more away day disappointment after losing 4-0 to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. There were some promising signs for Town in the early stages but it was a very disappointing performance, particularly our inability to score despite playing against 10 men for 45 minutes. Here are my player ratings from the game: Jonas Lössl - 6 out of 10 Not at fault for any of the goals, as far as I could see. His distribution wasn't up to his usual standard though and he looked flustered when Bournemouth players closed him down.
