Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Bolton Wanderers

Drawing teams from your own division in the cup is always a drag. It's even worse when it's against a team that's decent enough to beat us but not a big enough scalp for a Town victory to mean a great deal. Add to that the fact we recently allowed today's opponents to steal three points from us in the league a few weeks ago and this game doesn't bode well. Lee Grant's under fire and injury ravaged Terriers will cross the Pennines to take on Bolton in the first round of the FA Cup today, but it's likely few fans will join them in their journey given the gloom hanging over the club currently. One of the things I enjoy about writing these team prediction articles is that they often get me into the mood for a game. It'll take something pretty special to get me excited about this game though...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Bolton

Matches, Predicted lineups
Huddersfield Town take on Bolton tonight in a rare Thursday night game for the Terriers. After an extended break due to the international games, Town will hope this game will be a chance to put things right after a humbling 2-1 defeat to ten-man Stockport in their last outing. Bolton have yet to win on the road this season and have a tendency to struggle to finish the chances they create, so they have their own problems to deal with.  Lee Grant has a few more players available for selection in this game, after Mickel Miller and Anthony Evans have been declared fit, as well as Lynden Gooch now being futher along with his recovery from injury. The difficult decision will be whether to stick with the players he was using before the international break or to throw in these returning pl...
Fans on the turn, a helpful break, Bolton’s awful away form & playoff hopes – Talking points ahead of Huddersfield Town v Bolton

Fans on the turn, a helpful break, Bolton’s awful away form & playoff hopes – Talking points ahead of Huddersfield Town v Bolton

Matches, Talking points
Thursdays must be the least likely time to play a game of League One football but for whatever reason (bending over backwards for TV money), Huddersfield Town entertain Bolton on Thursday night in front of the Sky cameras. I suppose it means we get a Town game to watch earlier than usual after an international break and, from a pessimistic point of view, playing a few days earlier means that Town aren’t going to ruin another weekend for fans.  Trying to predict what’s going to happen in this game is a fool’s errand because both teams come into it with very erratic form. Town have had some respectable results so far this season but they have also had some punishing defeats, so it’s hard to have any expectations either way. Bolton are in a similar position and have found away games p...
Notes on Huddersfield Town’s commanding 4-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers

Notes on Huddersfield Town’s commanding 4-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers

Matches
Huddersfield Town won 4-0 away at Bolton on Saturday. While it started out as a cagey and closely matched contest, the game ended up as one-sided as you can imagine and Town rubbed their opponent's noses in it with a display of complete dominance in the second half. A slightly unsettling and perplexing experience for a Town fan. We're used to being on the receiving end of these drubbings, not handing them out. But it was weird in a good way and while Bolton were awful once their confidence had evaporated, Town were as good as their opponent was poor and the scoreline is a fair reflection of both sides overall performances. After a run of three defeats before the international break, this game felt significant in terms of Town's momentum. Now, rather than dwelling on a few recent wobbles...
Predicted Huddersfield Town XI, Ladapo signing reaction, injury updates and Michael Duff’s pre-Bolton thoughts

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI, Ladapo signing reaction, injury updates and Michael Duff’s pre-Bolton thoughts

Matches
Huddersfield Town are back in action today against Bolton Wanderers. And there may even be a fresh face up front for the Terriers.  In this blog post, I'm going to talk about Town's new signing, the laundry list of injury updates that came in the pre-match presser, I'll summarise a few of Michael Duff's other comments ahead of the Bolton game and try to predict the lineup. Here you go… Freddie Ladapo arrives  We've signed a striker! Maybe Ladapo isn't quite of the same calibre as Alfie May or Joe Taylor, who we've previously tried to sign, but he's also not the kind of panic buy we've been guilty of in the past after the window has closed. I'd be surprised if he's lumped in with Yaya Sonogo and Oumar Niasse as free agent signings that failed to make an impact. My general...
Bolton away preview: Town set to play second-string in FA Cup

Bolton away preview: Town set to play second-string in FA Cup

Town travel to Bolton for the third round of the FA Cup today. I remember when the cup was a relief from the trudge of playing in the league and a chance for glory. This season it’s a distraction. Playing in the Premier League is so entertaining the FA Cup feels a bit like a sideshow. David Wagner has consistently rotated his team for cup games during his time at Town. He argues that he does the same in the league too, but that’s usually two or three players, whereas today it is likely to be somewhere between 9 and 11 players. Goalkeeper: Joel Coleman As I’ve mentioned above, I think there will be wholesale changes for this game. Joel Coleman is confirmed to start in goal, giving Jonas Lössl a day off. From Wagner’s comments, it sounds like he’s chosen Coleman over Rob Green en...
