Huddersfield Town gave their fans an expected Christmas present of not just three points but a resounding 3-0 victory and a convincing performance that few fans saw coming. It was a welcome relief from the gathering gloom that had settled around the club to see the team effectively dismantle an (admittedly poor) opponent and execute a gameplay with ruthless efficiency. One win might not be enough to undo all the memories of recent failings at Town but it was certainly a welcome break from the dreary and depressing fare that has recently been served up. This win also gives optimists and dreamers the chance to wonder what this win could lead to. Maybe not much but there's always a chance it could be the start of things finally picking up for Town. Blackburn were rubbish but only becau...

Huddersfield Town drew 2-2 with Blackburn Rovers on Easter Monday and it was either two points thrown away after holding a 2-0 lead at half time or a valuable point gained after being completely outplayed for the entirety of the 90 minutes, depending on your perspective. While the 90th-minute equaliser from Blackburn was a sickener at the time, I’ve since reflected that it’s a decent outcome for Town and the point could be very valuable in the fight for survival. I’ll cover some of my thoughts on the game in this blogpost. Record breaking Terriers! The nerds at Opta have confirmed that no Championship team have completed fewer passes since they started counting them on their fingers and toes back in 2013. We registered just 63 successful passes over the course of the 90 minut...

Huddersfield Town lost 1-0 to Blackburn yesterday afternoon in a game that was frustratingly similar to their recent outings, where they actually played pretty well for long spells of the game but a lack of cutting edge up front and a momentary lapse at the back meant they left Ewood Park empty handed.  There’s no point talking about what Town deserved or not from this game because you only win games by scoring goals and Town’s players are currently showing a complete inability to get the ball into the back of the net and it’s causing us a great deal of pain at the moment and could ultimately cost us our place in the Championship.  But yet, we went away from home with a weakened team and went toe-to-toe with one of the division’s best teams for 90 minutes and looked pretty...

Huddersfield Town’s hectic pre-World Cup fixture run continues later today when they take the short journey over the Pennines to play near-neighbours, Blackburn. This War of the Roses clash sees our Lancastrian foes come into the game in better form than Town, sitting in second in the table compared to our bottom position. Add to that the fact that Town are currently ravaged by injuries and it’s hard to be too optimistic for this game. But there were still glimmers of hope in Town’s defeat to Sunderland on Wednesday night. Despite still lacking cutting edge in front of goal, Town fought hard and had spells where they played some nice football. The youngsters that stepped up to fill the gaps created by injured senior players also did well too. Sadly, the games key moments were really decid...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Blackburn

Huddersfield Town take on Blackburn later today. While Town have won their last three games, their opponents are also currently on a good run of form and will present a tough test for the Terriers. Town produced arguably their best performance of the season in the reverse fixture back in September when they came away 3-2 winners. It will be interesting to see if Town approach this game in the same manner, going toe-to-toe with Blackburn, or if they’ll play more conservatively and try to play more on the counter. The biggest factor on today’s selection will be the availability of the many players that have recently picked up knocks or are returning from longer term injuries. At the time of writing the club haven’t put out any updates on injuries following the Forest game, so I’m going t...

I talked about Huddersfield Town being consistently inconsistent before Tuesday night’s game and that was how it proved, when they followed up two pretty dire defeats with a thrilling victory over a high-quality opponent. While it might not have been a perfect performance, there was plenty of effort and a fair amount of quality on display from the Terriers and that was what helped them secure the three points. It’s probably a bit late to be publishing a player ratings article two days after a game but a busy schedule and a desire to linger on a game that could prove significant to Town’s season made me write this article anyway. Lee Nicholls - 8 out of 10 He will have wanted to have done better with the penalty as he managed to get a glove to it but wasn’t able to get enough on t...

Huddersfield Town were beaten 1-0 by Swansea at the weekend, in a game that could easily have been a much heavier loss for the Terriers if it hadn’t been for excellent goalkeeping work from Nicholls and some wasteful finishing from the Swans. Thankfully there isn’t a lot of time to dwell on this defeat as Blackburn will be travelling to the John Smiths’ tonight to give us a chance of arresting the mini slump we’ve entered. Prior to the Forest game the weekend before last, things had been incredibly positive around Huddersfield Town football club but consecutive defeats have brought the doom mongers out from wherever they hide when things are going well. Avoiding defeat tonight is essential to change Town’s momentum and keep them at the right end of the table. Here’s another roundup ...

Repeating mistakes, rotten attitudes, unfit players and legitimate doubts about the head coach – Notes on Town’s humiliating defeat to Blackburn

Huddersfield Town fell to another humiliating defeat yesterday, this time to Blackburn. While 5-2 might not look as bad as the 7-0 battering we received from Norwich, in many ways this game was worse. The bulk of Norwich's goals came from excellent play but yesterday we were the architects of our downfall, as we made mistake after mistake and got the tactics completely wrong. Blackburn were good but we gave them a very easy afternoon's work.  Weirdly, the other results mean Town are now almost certainly safe barring a very unlikely sequence of results. Few fans are in celebratory mood though as another dysfunctional performance means there are genuine questions to be asked about the competence of the Head Coach and the grand plan that we brought in last season as the justification...

Town have now played their last midweek game of the season and only have games today and the following two Saturdays before we can all do our best to pretend this season never happened.  Today's trip to Blackburn is the final game of a sequence of seven games in three weeks for the Terriers so there's a ready-baked excuse for a subdued performance today. However, if Town can get a win out of this game we can "celebrate" that we've retained our Championship status one game earlier than last season. While that's the kind of progress you need a microscope to inspect, at least those nagging fears of relegation can be put to bed. A defeat will leave us nervously looking at the results of the teams below us.  Anyway, here are my thoughts in this game: Predicted Huddersfield T...

It's a bit late, but here are a few of my thoughts of Tuesday night's 2-1 win against Blackburn.  Schofield makes another big contribution Ryan Schofield is giving fans a look at why he's been so highly rated within the club for years and it's a delight to see. For the second game in a row he pulled out a save that stopped what looked like a certain goal. These reflex saves that he seems to specialise in have kept us in games and almost certainly meant we've got more points that we would have done with either of our other two other keepers in nets.  Matt Glennon, the former Town goalkeeper and current Radio Leeds summariser, was glowing in his praise for Schofield after the match but suggested he may need to work on being a more vocal presence on the pitch. I think he's got a poi...
