There were plenty of interesting tweets shared online after Town’s victory against Bristol City on Saturday. Here are a few of my favourite ones.
Steven Chicken has a go at a dizzy penalty
Fair play to Examiner writer, Steven Chicken, for having a go at a dizzy penalty at half time. While his execution wasn’t the best, I doubt Mel Booth would have done the same in his heyday. You can read Steven’s write up of the experience on the Examiner website, including a veiled threat to puke up on a fan.
Nigel Pearson is generous with his praise for Town
He’s usually a bit of a grump but Nigel Pearson was very generous in his praise for Town in his post-match comments on the game. I was particularly pleased to hear him say that Town outran Bristol City on the day. We don’t get to see the running stats on Championship games but my suspicion is that part of Town’s success this season has been every outfield player being willing to run their socks off every game.
Carlos’ right-hand-man issues a rallying cry
Chico sent a message to the fans after the game to say that we could be on the verge of something happening. There’s a good energy about the team at the moment. Some teams go into the playoffs expecting to win, others desperate to scrape through but Town seem to be going in with confidence and positivity.
Craig calls for restraint from Town fans
Town fans are very quick to criticise other teams that don’t show us enough respect so I’m with Craig when he says we shouldn’t expect an easy ride against Luton. They’ve had a fantastic season and are notoriously hard to beat. There’s a decent chance of Town making it to Wembley but we shouldn’t count our chickens just yet.
Town prove that points on the board count for more than games in hand
I’m sure there are plenty of lovely Nottingham Forest fans out there but a significant chunk of their fans online are not nice. They tend to brag excessively about their relatively meagre achievements this season and are dismissive of all the other teams in the Championship. So it’s nice that those Forest fans that confidently predicted their games in hand would see them leapfrog Town now have to accept that we finished above them in the final league table.
Ticket outrage is bubbling up already
There’s a feel-good factor about Town at the moment but it’s likely there will be a bit of needle on Tuesday when the tickets for the first leg at Luton will sell out and leave many fans not able to attend. Fans that have season cards and are members of the Blue and White Foundation will have first dibs on the tickets, which will mean it’s likely some fans that have travelled up and down the country with Town this season won’t be able to get a ticket for our final game. Any priority system for away tickets will upset some fans but I think the club’s current approach has prioritised boosting lottery membership over treating loyal fans fairly.
Bring back Big Col!
Collin Quaner has now retired from football but I’d be tempted to see if he wanted to come back for a final hurrah to see if he can replicate his playoff heroics of 2017. He was the man that made the key difference in the Sheffield Wednesday semi final second leg with his cumbersome run down the wing to set up our equaliser. The truth is that these next few weeks will set up the opportunity for new players to become Town heroes, it’ll be interesting to see who, if anyone, steps up to become a legend.
Toffaldo
All comparisons between Harry Toffolo and past greats are valid at the moment, he has a recent scoring record that any striker would be proud of, never mind a left back. If he can just keep his scoring run going over the next two or three games then we should be doing alright.
Reece Dinsdale sums it up nicely
Reece’s tweet nicely summarises how so many Town fans feel. The most optimistic fans only hoped for a season of midtable mediocrity without too much drama. Instead we’ve massively overachieved and have an opportunity to make it back to the Premier League. The pressure really is off the players from most fans’ perspective as promotion was never a realistic expectation and that lack of pressure could be a key factor in these upcoming games.
Join in the Fan March on Monday night
This last tweet is a bit of a cheat, because it’s was sent yesterday evening but I wanted to spread some awareness of the march that the Cowshed Loyal are organising before the second leg on Monday night. We’ve done these marches in the past and they have helped whip the crowd up nicely in the build up to the game.
The meme with the man and two women doesn’t really work, it would be better if the man had a Forest badge, and the Points on the Board & Games in Hand were the other way round.
Unbelievable that Quaner is even mentioned. On of the most useless players ever signed by Town. Up there with Diakhaby
the point is John,
it was Quaners, cross, cutting inside his fullback, that led to the equaliser against sheff weds in the away leg.
havinng endured 5 scoreless matches against weds & the first half of this game, few fans thought luck was gonna go our way.
ironically a player who regularly scored for weds was to go on to have his penalty saved by ward.
loud choruses of forestieri at games conclusion from town fans.
nahki tried to turn in Quaners cross at near post, for it to b credited to a defender,as it trickled over the line.
all colins industry to create the chance.
happy memories….Carlos planning more for us this time.
