The best podcasts about Huddersfield Town

Podcasts are a great way to stay up to date on the things that you’re interested in. Luckily there are now quite a few podcasts out there that cover Huddersfield Town. Read on to find out more about them and give them a listen.

Regular Huddersfield Town podcasts

Here are three regular podcasts that cover Huddersfield Town in one way or another.

Ooh to be ah…

Ooh to be a podcast

Raj Bains hosts this new podcast about Town on behalf of The Examiner. It’s going to be released twice a week and despite a marathon opening episode, they’re promising around 40 minutes to an hour of Town related discussion.

It’s well produced, follows a coherent structure and the first few episodes have had some interesting insights into Town. I might not agree with every point made but the points were intelligently constructed. The audio quality is mostly very good, but technical problems connecting to Austria during the pre-season tour meant there were a few sections which sounded like they were recorded with a tin can and string setup.

There are details on the Examiner website on how to subscribe or you can listen to the first episode below.

Thrice Champions

Thrice Champions has been running for a while now and the format is mostly just a few mates gathered around a microphone and talking about Town. It feels like a bit like you’re down the pub and talking about the latest things happening at the club.

The audio quality can be up and down. I’m guessing they record using a single microphone and those nearest sound a lot louder than those further back. It’s also not all that regular. It is a good listen though and the people know their stuff when it comes to Town.

Long Ball Street

Long Ball Street podcast

A general football podcast, but hosted by Matt Wilson, a London-based Town fan. He runs “Ball Street Productions” which is a media company of some sort. The conversation often turns to Town but alongside all the other goings on in the world of football.

The contributors vary from week to week, but the format is that they’ll have a chat about four or five different football stories that have been big news recently. It can sometimes descend into a bit of a shambles (they spent over a minute fannying around with a microphone in a recent episode and didn’t edit it out). But they usually pull it back on topic and give each other chance to speak.

The episodes are published on YouTube as well as on the usual podcast places, so you can watch a recent episode below:

One-off Town podcasts

These are podcasts with a single episode about Huddersfield Town. You may want to subscribe to their other episodes, but I’ve linked to the Town specific podcasts so you can just listen to them if you prefer.

Who are ya? – Episode Two

This podcast looks at a different club every episode and chose Huddersfield Town for their second outing. It’s a good listen, with some prominent Town fans sharing their thoughts about the club. Recorded fairly close to the Playoff final victory, it helps to recapture some of the magic of that day from different perspectives.

The presenter is hardly heard, the fans are given the time and freedom to tell their story in their own words, which makes it feel like a piece of performance art rather than a podcast. Well worth a listen.

A team of John O’Sheas – Huddersfield Town Summer Special

This podcast is probably aimed more at outsiders that want to know more about Huddersfield Town in advance of the new season but there’s some interesting discussion about what to expect for Town. Again, you can listen to some articulate and knowledgeable Town fans in this podcast.

Official Town podcast

It must be a failed experiment because the club only ever released a single episode of their official podcast. I’ve put it up on here for completeness but I’m not sure I’d recommend it.

Generally, I think the media team at Town do a good job and are continually getting better but it looks like this was a misstep. An official club podcast would be a great idea but the first episode focussing on youth player development wasn’t the most exciting prospect. They’ve gone too deep into the weeds, too early.

As a side note, both Stuart Webber and Steve Weaver have left the club since recording the podcast episode, so perhaps it’s been a kiss of death for them.

If anyone from the club is reading this and wants to resurrect the official podcast I’d strongly recommend an episode called “The World According to Heff” and let Michael Hefele loose on the microphone for an hour. Surely that would be podcast gold straight away.

More Town podcasts to come?

It’s quite likely there’ll be new podcasts about Town coming out in the near future. Someone posted on the Down at the Mac forum that they were on the verge of putting one together and there could be others in the pipeline too.

Did I miss something? Add a comment below if there’s a Town podcast I’ve missed.

I don’t do podcasts, but because more of our fanbase will have something to get off their chest this season, the podcasts will get listeners and contributors.

Let’s pray we’ll have more good things than bad things to say during the season, but there will be ups and downs as it’s not all smooth sailing. Just fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride. We can avoid the drop and not all newly-promoted teams go straight back down, even in spite of what that so-called Paul Merson has predicted to happen to us. They don’t have belief in us, and fair enough. We’re not the biggest, but the Terriers will do everything possible to sustain Premier League status.
