I’m a bit late to respond to Huddersfield Town’s aquisition of Adama Diakhaby from Monaco, so I’ve decided to throw together all the various things that have already been said about the signing, rather than repeat what’s already out there.
The highlights video
It’s always worth being careful before getting too excited about highlight videos from YouTube, most players can cobble together a few minutes of clips that show them looking half-decent. The most exciting thing from the clips was how ridiculously quick he is.
On the other hand, from this very small glimpse of him playing, he appears to be very reliant on his left foot. All players have a dominant foot to some extent, but it looked like he was scared to use his right at times. It’ll be interesting to see if this is an issue or not once he’s playing for Town.
TerrierBlog’s article on the signing
There’s a good high-level introduction to Diakhaby’s arrival on the TerrierBlog which covers the players FIFA 18 stats, playing history, and a quote pulled from FourFourTwo in France. It also features the word “Monegasque”, which sounds like a playground insult but is actually the proper way to describe an inhabitant of Monaco – so it’s educational too!
Talk of the Town blog’s in-depth scouting report
If you want to dig into the nooks and crannies of Diakhaby’s career so far then Elliot at the Talk of the Town blog has gone into great detail. It’s a long read, but well worth checking out.

Monaco fans share their thoughts on their fans’ forum
I managed to find a Monaco fans forum where the fans were talking about this transfer. I’m relying on Google Translate as my interpreter, but the general gist is that they’re glad to see him go and think he’s a bit rubbish. I’m not too worried about this though, as Terence Kongolo was also deemed beneath Monaco’s standard and he’s a class player.
The only slight cause for concern were the comments about him being greedy and how he’s not very tactically aware. That sounds like the kind of things David Wagner will be able to drill into him over the next few weeks though.
Interview with HTTV
As usual, there wasn’t a lot of insight in the official club interview. He seems like a perfectly nice young lad and said all the right things about wanting to help us do well and to compete in the Premier League. His English was a little bit broken, but far better than my French, so I can’t really criticise.
TerrierSpirit.com opinion
This is another of those signings where we’ve picked up a player that’s just had a bad season, but otherwise looks to have all the qualities to succeed at Town. We’re once again trusting David Wagner and his team to get the best out of a player that will hopefully have something to prove.
The raw pace and cultured left foot that Diakhaby has makes him an exciting player to watch and he may be able to produce those moments of magic that can open up defences. This isn’t a signing that’s guaranteed to pay off for Town, but if everything goes well it could be a great aquisition.
