Danny Grant, the talented 20-year-old winger, had confirmed on Twitter that he will be leaving Ireland to continue his career overseas. This tweet suggests a deal has been done and the youngster will be officially announced soon.
There have been significant rumours that Huddersfield Town have wanted to sign him, including reports that a bid from Town was rejected earlier this week. While Hull have also allegedly been sniffing around the player, it’s possible that the allure of Championship football with Huddersfield Town will prove to be too tempting. Not to mention the undoubted splendour of Huddersfield that must help draw players to our club like moths to a light bulb.
A fond farewell to his old club
There is a touch of class to the way that Danny Grant has signed off from Bohemians, with an effusive and heartfelt farewell to the club and its fans which shows his obvious affection for and gratitude to the club where he made his name.
It’s encouraging to see that the replies to his tweet are unanimously positive and he’s clearly got a bond with the fans over there. If he signs for Town, I hope it won’t be long before we’re able to sing his praises too.

Is he likely to sign for Huddersfield Town?
The rumours circulating around Danny Grant have suggested a gaggle of clubs have been after his signature, so Town will have had to beat off some stiff competition. So far, no other Championship-level clubs have been linked in the press, so it’s possible that our higher position in the football pyramid gives us the upper hand but that doesn’t mean it’s certain he’ll be coming to West Yorkshire.
A quick search of Twitter revealed some claims that Huddersfield Town have won the race to sign him but these didn’t appear to come from reliable sources and can probably be filed under wild speculation. Even so, this has the feel of a rumour that might ultimately turn out to be true but that’s based on literally no information and is purely a hunch.
What kind of player is Danny Grant
He’s a winger that likes to get forward and get his name on the scoresheet. While he’s primarily right footed, he can play on either flank, either cutting inside on the left in a Karlan Grant / Josh Koroma style or whipping balls in from the right side.
He’s scored 7 goals in 14 matches for Bohemians in their most recent season and was voted the league’s Young player of the year (and was nominated for overall player of the year)002.
While it’s hard to say how he’ll cope with the adjustment to Championship football, its clear that he’s got a lot of ability already, has potential to get better in the future and his experience in men’s football already means he should be a bit less wet behind the ears than a lot fo 20-year-old footballers that have only known youth football.
Will he come straight into the first team if he signs for Town?
Any deal arranged now won’t actually go through until the January transfer window opens and even then he’ll need time to settle in to his new surroundings. There also seems to be a protracted adjustment period for players to learn Carlos Corberán’s approach and physically adjust to the demands of training and matches.
So while it would be lovely to see him come straight in and fill the huge gap left by Josh Koroma’s injury, it’s likely he’ll need time to get fully up to speed. Then it will be up to him to prove in training that he’s ready for the first team.
Fingers crossed then.
We need some extra talent right now.
