Karlan Grant’s transfer to West Brom – who got the best out of the deal?

Karlan Grant’s transfer to West Brom – who got the best out of the deal?

Transfers
Huddersfield Town finally sold Karlan Grant to West Bromwich Albion last night for an undisclosed fee that is rumoured to be around £15m. It's a transfer saga that has rumbled on for almost the entirety of this window so it's a relief to be able to move on from this story and to talk about something else. Before we do though, I'm going to take a look at who got the best out of this deal. Karlan Grant I'd say the most obvious winner is Grant himself. He's signed a six-year deal at his new club which is a huge commitment from West Brom. Not only that, Grant is almost certainly going to be getting a massive pay rise out of this move. I saw a rumour that he'll be earning £60,000 a week at West Brom, which may not be true but if it's remotely close to the figure he's going to be paid then h...

Why are there so many articles about Karlan Grant’s move to West Brom but so little progress?

Transfers
The ongoing story of West Brom’s pursuit of Huddersfield Town’s Karlan Grant has long since passed into the realm of being a “saga”. Every single day for the last few weeks there are headlines about the potential deal being on the verge of happening. Despite the player wanting the move, Huddersfield Town being willing to let him go and West Brom desperately needing a striker the move seems to be stuck. While there hasn't been any discernable change in the status of this move for week, we still get a deluge of articles commenting on the proposed transfer. Here are a few of the reasons why there are so many articles written about this potential transfer and so few genuine changes in what’s happening. The deal is genuinely stuck It feels like most transfer deals have taken longer than us...
A Hudersfield Town fan’s perspective on Chris Willock signing for QPR

A Hudersfield Town fan’s perspective on Chris Willock signing for QPR

Transfers
Last night QPR signed Chris Willock from Benfica for a fee believed to be in the region of 750,000. Huddersfield Town had been linked with the winger earlier in the transfer window but the deal was alleged to have broken down after failing to agree personal terms with the player. Chris Willock spent the second half of last season on loan at Huddersfield Town and scored one of the crucial goals in our season-salvaging victory over West Brom in our penultimate game. Here are a few of my thoughts on Town losing out on Willock to a Championship rival. How did Willock do during his loan spell at Huddersfield Town? Chris Willock arrived at Huddersfield Town lacking match fitness after his loan at West Brom was prematurely ended because he wasn’t getting any game time. He looked rusty and was ...
How do the double transfer deadline days this season affect Huddersfield Town’s transfer dealings?

How do the double transfer deadline days this season affect Huddersfield Town’s transfer dealings?

Transfers
This transfer window is a bit different this season due to the disruption caused by the pandemic. Rather than having a single deadline there are actually two, one that affects dealings with clubs abroad and one for domestic deals. It’s not all that complicated but it’s definitely different to the usual deadline situation. Here’s a quick summary of what the rules are for the upcoming deadlines and how it could affect Huddersfield Town and their ongoing transfer business. Next Monday’s deadline - Monday 5 October 2020 Monday’s deadline is the last day for Premier League clubs to do deals with other Premier League clubs and those abroad. So it will mean top-flight teams in England will only be able to buy, sell and loan players with clubs from the leagues below them in England. EFL teams ...
The Karlan Grant to West Brom saga – A Huddersfield Town fan’s perspective

The Karlan Grant to West Brom saga – A Huddersfield Town fan’s perspective

Transfers
Karlan Grant has been linked with a move away from Huddersfield Town since almost the moment he arrived at the club. He was signed in the January transfer window of the season we were relegated and it was immediately clear that he was one of the very few players in our squad at the time that deserved to be playing at that level. The low-level rumours of him wanting to move back to the top-flight have been there since summer 2019 but this desire was confirmed by the club early this summer, making it almost certain he would be on his way out of the door if an acceptable offer came in. For the last month or so there have been persistent rumours that a deal has been close between Hudderfield Town, West Brom and Karlan Grant but it has not yet got over the line. The speculation about the tran...

Transfer rumour roundup – Who might be coming and going from Huddersfield Town?

Transfers
Huddersfield Town head into Saturday's game with Brentford with a squad that is still worryingly thin. So it's no surprise that Town fans are chomping at the bit for news of any potential transfers on the horizon. Below is a summary of the rumours that have been flying around about Town lately. Some feel a lot less likely than others but I thought I’d present them all anyway just in case they come to anything down the line. Carl Eiting from Ajax Let’s start with the most exciting rumour that emerged yesterday afternoon. Carl Eiting has been linked with a loan move to Town after a few injury-hit seasons at Ajax stalled his promising start in the game. He was part of the crop of Ajax youngsters that include big-money Premier League transfers this summer, Ziyech and van de Beek. He looks ...
Journalist says Huddersfield Town are in talks about signing three different midfielders

Journalist says Huddersfield Town are in talks about signing three different midfielders

Opinion, Transfers
Alan Nixon, a journalist that often has stories about goings on behind the scenes at Huddersfield Town, has said on Twitter that Town are currently sniffing around three different midfielders. The journalist expressed his surprise at the club pursuing three targets for the same position but our squad is so things I wouldn't be stunned if this report turned out to be true. Who could the three midfield targets be? Nixon didn't expand upon who these players were but I'm willing to speculate about who at least two of them could be. Bear in kind this is just me putting together past rumours and isn't based on any inside knowledge. https://twitter.com/reluctantnicko/status/1305966381452734466 Robbie Gotts from Leeds Robbie Gotts has been linked with Town throughout the transfer window. How many new signings do Huddersfield Town need?

How many new signings do Huddersfield Town need?

Matches, Transfers
Huddersfield Town’s squad is worryingly thin at the moment. Everyone knows that new players are needed but which positions are most desperately in need of being filled? To answer this question, I’m going to take a look at every position on the pitch and look at what options Town currently have. Some areas look well-stocked whereas other parts of the pitch are severely lacking. Goalkeeper - options but too many monkeys on too many backs Ben Hamer Joel Pereira Ryan Schofield This is an area of the pitch where we could have issues this season. Ben Hamer has struggled for form all the time he's been at Town (including while on loan at Derby). His understudy, Pereira had an even worse time of it last season at Hearts. It's not clear where Schofield falls in the pecking order ...

8 thoughts on Huddersfield Town’s opening day defeat to Norwich – Fashion choices, squad gaps, positives, mistakes and more

Matches, Opinion, Transfers
Huddersfield Town lost to Norwich in yesterday's opening Championship fixture. As a Town fan I've become something of a connoisseur of defeat this last couple of years. This was definitely one of the more palatable beating we've had. Plenty of positives, bad luck to bemoan and a decent performance. Here are a few of my thoughts about the game, including my thoughts on Carlos Corberán's sartorial choices. Early signs of the new approach This was the first league game under Corberán and I was pleased by how the new system is developing. Managers are excellent at talking about their intention to attack and press the opposition but it often doesn't materialise. This wasn't the case yesterday and it was obvious we were doing things differently. The work rate from the players without the ball ...

Mounié leaves a wholesome farewell message to fans as he leaves HTAFC with a tear in his eye

Transfers
Steve Mounié left Huddersfield Town today, transferring to Brest in France for an undisclosed fee. The much-loved striker left a heart-warming farewell message on his Instagram account, saying he had been welling up when looking back at pictures and videos of his highlights at Huddersfield Town. Steve Mounié's message to Town fans Not everyone is on Instagram, so here's his message in full. Im Getting emotional while Im looking at all these pictures and videos.
