What do MK Dons and Millwall fans think of Kasumu and Mahoney signing for Huddersfield Town?

What do MK Dons and Millwall fans think of Kasumu and Mahoney signing for Huddersfield Town?

News, Social media, Transfers
Huddersfield Town made their first signing of the summer fairly early and we’ve had to wait a seeming eternity for them to announce their second and third signings of the summer. But we’ve finally made a couple of acquisitions and I have something to write about! So I’ve pushed aside my plans to write an investigative piece about Mick Wadsworth's disastrous time in Africa and instead I’ve looked into what our new signings fans really think about them.  In case you didn’t pick up the news yesterday, Town signed David Kasumu and Connor Mahoney yesterday. Both were free agents but as Kasumu is only 22 years old we have had to pay compensation to MK Dons for his development (someone on Twitter guessed £60,000 - which seems low but not crazy).  I’ve waded through the online com...
Where are the gaps in Huddersfield Town’s squad?

Where are the gaps in Huddersfield Town’s squad?

Transfers
Town have cleared the decks this week by letting go of their out-of-contract players and sending back loanees to their parent clubs. This means the squad is now a bit on the thin side, even when you add in the players returning from loans that might add something to the first team.  In this article I’m going to look at the various areas of the pitch and try to identify where Town are light and where they have enough players. Here we go… Goalkeepers Lee Nicholls Ryan Schofield Youth options: Bilokopic / Chapman / Bellagambi  At the start of the season just gone, I had my doubts about this area of the pitch, with Schofield wobbily and Nicholls unproven at Championship level. After one of the best seasons of any Town goalkeeper in my memory, Lee Nicholls has d...
“The transfer went badly wrong” – Some thoughts on Huddersfield Town’s retained list

“The transfer went badly wrong” – Some thoughts on Huddersfield Town’s retained list

Transfers
As is tradition shortly after the end of the season, Huddersfield Town released their retained list yesterday. Very few players were offered new deals, with only Toffolo and Koroma being offered new deals and they were only one-year extensions on existing deals rather than proper new contracts. This list suggests that Town are planning to be busy in the transfer market this summer or intend to promote youngsters into the first team. It’s hard to be too objective about what this list means without seeing what we are going to replace these players with. It’s possible that we’ve already lined up high quality players to come in and improve the squad or maybe we’re just trying to trim the wage bill. We’ll know more by the end of the upcoming transfer window at the start of September. Ren...
How much did Huddersfield Town’s squad really cost?

How much did Huddersfield Town’s squad really cost?

Transfers
Huddersfield Town finished third in the Championship this season and have made it to the playoff final a week on Sunday with a squad that cost buttons. Despite the Championship being littered with clubs that have spent large amounts of money to try and buy success, Carlos Corberán has been able to take his team to the brink of the Premier League despite spending very little on transfer fees during his tenure.  Town overhauled their squad in the summer with a host of new arrivals but no money was spent on transfer fees, with all the new additions being free transfers or loans. Which was why nobody expected a huge improvement on Town’s 20th placed finish last season and everyone has been stunned how well we have done this season. While there’s no trophy handed out for the team th...
Sorba Thomas to Watford rumour – A Huddersfield Town fan’s view

Sorba Thomas to Watford rumour – A Huddersfield Town fan’s view

Opinion, Transfers
There were reports earlier this week that Watford may be considering a move for Sorba Thomas after his impressive season so far for Huddersfield Town. The stats he's been producing in the Championship, particularly in the first few months of the season, have been amazing and he's also earned his first few call ups to the Welsh national team.  It's no huge surprise that the former Boreham Wood player is generating interest from Premier League clubs and it's possible several other clubs are keeping tabs on him. Here are a few of my opinions about Sorba Thomas and this rumour. Sorba's ridiculous start to the season Prior to this season, Huddersfield Town have had a long standing problem with set pieces. Even in our promotion and Premier League survival campaigns we had a tenden...
Huddersfield Town transfer rumour roundup

Huddersfield Town transfer rumour roundup

Transfers
The transfer window closes next week and usually things would be starting to heat up around now but so far things are relatively quiet for Huddersfield Town. The whole transfer market seems to be moving a lot more slowly this time around, with fewer clubs willing to spend and others not wanting to lose prize assets. Town also managed to do much of their business early in the window, which was the right thing to do but means there’s less to speculate about. Newspapers have column inches to fill regardless of whether transfers are happening or not, so there are still a few rumours knocking around. Here I’ll try to summarise the most likely comings and goings from Huddersfield Town before the window shuts. The tug of love over Lewis O'Brien continues Harry Kane’s failed attempt to o...
A Huddersfield Town fan’s view on Juninho Bacuna’s move to Glasgow Rangers

A Huddersfield Town fan’s view on Juninho Bacuna’s move to Glasgow Rangers

Transfers
Juninho Bacuna has left Huddersfield Town to join Rangers. The Curacao international has been on the sidelines at Huddersfield Town since it emerged the club wanted to move him on and he has had to train with the academy rather than with the first team.  I have a feeling he’ll do well at Rangers and it could be one of those transfers that we later regret. On the other hand, Bacuna has been frustrating to watch at times, so reasons I’ll delve into later.  Here’s my view on Bacuna’s move to Rangers in more detail: What is Juninho Bacuna good at?  Bacuna, or Bacca as he is often called, is an attack-minded central midfielder that is capable of covering a variety of other positions. He's one of those players that can produce a moment of magic in a boring game and ma...
Huddersfield Town’s latest signing could hint towards future transfer plans

Huddersfield Town’s latest signing could hint towards future transfer plans

Transfers
Huddersfield Town signed Jon Russell for their B Team following his release from Chelsea earlier this summer. Despite being on loan at Accrington Stanley last season and playing first team football in League One he will initially start off in Jon Worthington's B Team rather than going straight into the first team.  This acquisition might hint at the long-term plan to use the B Team to bed in players rather than spending money on established players that are ready for the first team. A bit like buying green bananas and ripening them yourself rather than buying ones that are ready to eat. Since Town revamped their youth system and got rid of their younger academy age groups they have relied on recruiting players from other club's academies but it's unusual for them to bring in playe...
Huddersfield Town’s predicted retained list – who should stay and who will go?

Huddersfield Town’s predicted retained list – who should stay and who will go?

Transfers
Huddersfield Town limped to the end of the season with a tepid draw against Reading. I can't tell you much more about it than that as I didn't bother watching the game. Instead I had a pub lunch in a soggy beer garden which was infinitely more entertaining.  Now the season is over the first bit of business will be for Town to announce which players in the current squad will be offered new deals and which ones will be leaving the club. Here are my predictions.  New deals Romoney Crichlow This first one is cheating a bit as he's already posted on social media about how he's looking forward to playing for Town next season. Arguably he's at an age where he needs regular first team football and Rarmani Edmonds-Green's success may limit his chances as we won't want to play...
Lewis O’Brien to Newcastle – A Huddersfield Town fan’s view on the rumoured transfer

Lewis O’Brien to Newcastle – A Huddersfield Town fan’s view on the rumoured transfer

Transfers
There have been numerous reports recently linking Huddersfield Town's Lewis O'Brien with a move to Newcastle United in the upcoming transfer window. I thought it to might be interesting to offer a Huddersfield Town fan's perspective to this potential move.  O'Brien was last season's player of the year for Huddersfield Town and has played more minutes this season than most other members of the squad despite missing the opening month and a bit of the season due to injury.  What are Lewis O'Brien's strengths?  I think one of the best things about O'Brien is that he's such a hard-working player. Running stats are closely guarded by the club but I'd wager he covers more ground than the majority of players in any given game. His relentless running helps when attacking as he provides ov...
