New arrivals soften the blow of bruising defeat to Walsall

New arrivals soften the blow of bruising defeat to Walsall

Matches, Transfers
I had a much gloomier article planned about Town's miserable Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Walsall, where Matty Pearson's silly red card incident led to Town going 2-0 up then collapsing to a 3-2 defeat. But Town made a double loan swoop from Wolverhampton Wanderers yesterday which addressed some of the biggest issues raised by the game on Tuesday night, so perhaps the tone of this article can now be a bit chirpier. Which is nice.  So this is a two-in-one article, where I'm going to look back on the dismal night's work on Tuesday and take a look at the two new players that arrived at Town on Wednesday.  Town deserved to be dumped out of the cup Despite being 1-0 up at the time of Matty Pearson's red  card, they were second best even before being reduced to ten m...
Antony Evans – Who is he, what do Bristol Rovers fans think of him and how will he fit in at Huddersfield Town?

Antony Evans – Who is he, what do Bristol Rovers fans think of him and how will he fit in at Huddersfield Town?

Player profiles, Transfers
Antony Evans has become Huddersfield Town's fourth summer signing after his arrival from Bristol Rovers for an undisclosed fee (believed to be £450,000). He joins Lasse Sorensen, Mickel Miller and Herbie Kane as the club continue to build a squad that they hope will give Michael Duff the tools he needs to mount a promotion tilt in the coming campaign. And, it has to be said, the quality of the signings and fact they're coming in relatively early in preseason, bodes well for Town.  Evans is Bristol Rovers reigning Player of the Season and is highly rated by their fans. So it seems like we've got a very promising player on our hands. In this article I'll dig a little bit deeper on our newboy. What is Antony Evans’ history? Evans came up through Everton’s youth ranks, playing i...
Herbie Kane – Who is he, what do Barnsley fans think of him and how will he fit in at Huddersfield Town?

Herbie Kane – Who is he, what do Barnsley fans think of him and how will he fit in at Huddersfield Town?

Player profiles, Transfers
Huddersfield Town have signed central midfielder and part-time Phil Collins impersonator, Herbie Kane on a free transfer following his contract expiring at Barnsley. Despite bearing a striking resemblance to the singer/drummer from Genesis (someone on Down At The Mac pointed it out and I can't unsee it now), this looks like a great signing for Town. So with no legitimate concerns about this bit of business it leaves unfortunate bloggers like me little material to write about oth(er than personal remarks about the player's physical appearance.  We’ve been crying out for some creativity in the middle of the park for years and it seems like this signing could bring it. We also have a head coach that can get the best out of him too, as Duff worked with Kane at Barnsley two seasons ago...
Mickel Miller – Who is he, what do Plymouth fans think and is he a good signing for Huddersfield Town?

Mickel Miller – Who is he, what do Plymouth fans think and is he a good signing for Huddersfield Town?

Player profiles, Transfers
Huddersfield Town announced their second summer signing yesterday evening. Not Alfie May, the Charlton striker we’ve been linked with for weeks but are now likely to lose out on to Birmingham after they turned on the money hose and we were shut out of the deal. The new signing is Mickel Miller, a left wingback who arrives as a free agent after running down his contract at Plymouth.  The twenty-eight-year-old arrives on a two-year contract after turning down a new deal at his previous club and rejecting interest from others, reportedly including other Championship teams. In terms of his credentials, he’s won promotion from League One twice, with Rotherham and Plymouth and then played a good number of games last season in the Championship too. There are, however, a few question mark...
Who is Lasse Sorensen and will he be any good for Huddersfield Town?

Who is Lasse Sorensen and will he be any good for Huddersfield Town?

Transfers
Huddersfield Town are currently being heavily linked with Lincoln City wingback Lasse Sorensen. And not the kind of wishful thinking rumour, dreamed up by a 14-year-old who opened a Twitter account last week, more the sort of rumour that gets out because he's done his medical and is about to be announced. Though any transfer can fall apart at any stage until it's officially announced I suppose, but this seems more all but certain to be confirmed in the next few hours, if it hasn't already by the time you read this introduction. In this article I'll dig into who Lasse Sorensen is, imagine how he will fit in at Town and comment on whether it's a good signing for the new-look Terriers going into our first season back in League One.  Who is Lasse Sorensen? Sorensen played youth footb...
Jonathan Hogg, his new contract and a jumper that should have gone to the charity shop years ago

Jonathan Hogg, his new contract and a jumper that should have gone to the charity shop years ago

Opinion, Transfers
I have a jumper in my wardrobe that has been my favourite for around 12 years now. It fits me nicely, I feel comfortable in it and it works in a variety of situations. To begin with the jumper was unquestionably my best jumper and was my first choice for a number of years. Then after a while it got a bit older, and having been worn a lot and put through the wash plenty of times it started to get a bit bobbly and didn't look as good as it used to. So obviously I got other jumpers. But those jumpers never quite fit the same, or the material would feel cheap, or after a few washes they would shrink and not feel right. So I'd got back to my old jumper, because even though it is past its best, it's still better than all the available alternatives I had in my wardrobe. I really should have sent...
Who are the favourites to be the next Huddersfield Town manager?

Who are the favourites to be the next Huddersfield Town manager?

News, Transfers
Andre Brietenreiter has deemed League One beneath a coach of his abilities, despite the fact he signed a two and a half year contract with a team hovering precariously about the relegation zone to League One, then could only manage two victories in 13 games in charge. I'm glad the German has left now and given us time to achieve a fresh start but it seems a bit rich that he's walking away because he thinks he's too good for the level the club is playing at, when he had a part in us ending up at that level (though obviously there are many, many other factors in Town's relegation). Breitenreiter walking away from Town after guiding them to League One feels a lot like someone soiling their own bed and then complaining about the smell.  So you can probably sense that I'm not too disap...
Should they stay or should they go? Trying to predict Town’s summer squad overhaul

Should they stay or should they go? Trying to predict Town’s summer squad overhaul

Transfers
It’s likely to be another summer of change at Huddersfield Town, as we prepare for a new life in League One and hopefully a more positive season after a pretty dire run of results in 23/24. Before we get to next August there will have to be some work done to build a squad that is up to the challenge of League One, which will be a tricky job, particularly if the club needs to cut its cloth according to the reduced revenues that relegation brings.  With that in mind, I’ve had a go at trying to predict what might happen to Huddersfield Town’s squad over the summer. There are likely to be some high-profile exits, hopefully some of our better players will stick around too and a few fringe players may step out of the shadows to take on more prominent roles at a lower level. The retained ...
Who is Alex Matos and will he be a good signing for Huddersfield Town?

Who is Alex Matos and will he be a good signing for Huddersfield Town?

Transfers
I was just about to publish my article about Town's defeat to Leicester on New Year's Day when I saw Town are on the verge of making their first January signing, so I've decided to write about that first and will put up the post about Monday's game later today. Apparently we're about to sign 19-year-old Chelsea winger, Alex Matos on loan for the rest of the season. I wouldn't usually write about unconfirmed transfer rumours but this one has been put out by Fabrizio Ramono on Twitter (or X if you prefer) who is usually fairly reliable. Or at least, I doubt someone who typically breaks stories of ginormous transfers would bother making up stories about a Chelsea youth player going to a struggling Championship side, so it seems likely to be true. It's also been picked up and reported by t...
TRANSFER TALK: Etienne Camara shouldn’t have left Huddersfield Town so soon

TRANSFER TALK: Etienne Camara shouldn’t have left Huddersfield Town so soon

Transfers
Etienne Camara’s departure from Huddersfield Town has now been officially confirmed by Town, four days after Udinese tweeted out pictures of the player signing for them. Seemingly there was a delay with the paperwork and the Italian club jumped the gun.Regardless, the French Under 20 international has left West Yorkshire for Italy for an undisclosed fee which is rumoured to be between £1.5m and £2.2m which will most likely also include a clause that will secure Town a percentage of any future transfer fee if he is sold for a profit.  While the terms being suggested don’t seem ridiculous for a player that hasn’t played a great deal and that was entering into the final year of his contract with no intention of renewing, I still feel like this deal doesn’t represent great value for H...
