Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Peterborough

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Peterborough

Matches, Predicted lineups
Huddersfield Town take on Peterborough this afternoon at the Accu Stadium. Peterborough are usually a strong League One team but this season they have picked up a solitary point from their opening five games and have only scored two goals in those outings.  Lee Grant has spoken about needing to be cautious of Peterborough as they are better than their current league position suggests. There were also a handful of deadline day signings that will make them stronger. Yet, I can’t help but feel a convincing victory is needed from Town to get their promotion push back on the road after faltering at Barnsley last weekend.  Thankfully, Lee Grant has some tough choices in picking his starting eleven due to our strong squad and relatively small injury list. New loan signings Zepi Richmon...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Newcastle U21s

Matches, Predicted lineups
Huddersfield Town are starting their road to Wembley tonight, with their first group game of this year’s Vertu Trophy. It might be a bit premature to start booking hotels for the final, but the ambition from the club is to go all the way in this competition. We’ll get a sense of how serious the club are about pursuing this target when we see the lineup tonight. If Lee Grant picks mostly first-team members, then we’re going for it. If it’s mainly B Teamers with a few fringe first teamers getting a run out, then we’re not actually that serious about this competition.  Here’s how I think we’ll line up… Goalkeeper: Goodman With a stay on the sidelines coming up after his red card at the weekend, Goodman has a last chance to get some minutes in before stepping aside for Lee Nichol...
Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Barnsley

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Barnsley

Matches, Predicted lineups
Huddersfield Town are in South Yorkshire today to take on Barnsley this afternoon, probably the local derby that I’ve seen Town compete in most during my time supporting the club. Leeds and Bradford are more fierce rivalries but Barnsley have been operating in the same league as Town more often than those two so are a more familiar foe.  The timing of this fixture catches both teams in a good moment, with Town winning four of their first five games and Barnsley only two points worse off, with three wins, a draw and a defeat from their opening five league outings. Both have navigated two rounds of the League Cup too. So hopefully we’ll see two teams in good form, having a real go at it.  Lee Grant has a few welcome selection headaches, after making ten changes for the cup in...
Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Sunderland

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Sunderland

Matches, Predicted lineups
Town are in Sunderland tonight for the second round of the league cup. With wholesale changes likely to the starting lineup, it's an impossible task to know what sort of team we will be fielding. There's not much point debating whether Town should or shouldn't field a strong team, as this competition is universally used by teams to give their fringe players a run out.  Luckily, Town have a good amount of depth and few injuries compared to last season, so we can rest players and not lose too much. In fact, this game is a good opportunity to get minutes into a few players that will be miffed to be outside of the starting eleven for league games.  Goalkeeper: Nicholls  Lee Nicholls was the hero of the penalty shootout in the first round and could be again if we can kee...
Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Stevenage

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Stevenage

Matches, Predicted lineups
Stevenage are the guests at the Accu Stadium today, as first in the league comes to take on fifth. I’ve talked in my pre-match talking points article about Stevenage's wins mostly coming against weak League One opposition, so today will be their biggest test of the season. Stevenage's direct and physical approach is likely to be a big test for Town too, so it’ll be an interesting encounter even if the football might be a bit industrial at times (and the tackles potentially agricultural).  Lee Grant made me look a bit of an idiot in my previous predictions article, where I only picked out six out of the starting eleven correctly. I’ve been better in my previous predictions but Lee Grant is proving to be a tricky manager to second guess as he likes to shuffle the pack most games, mak...
Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Doncaster Rovers

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Doncaster Rovers

Matches, Predicted lineups
Huddersfield Town take on Doncaster Rovers tonight in a game that now feels more important to Town after their defeat to Blackpool at the weekend. And success feels less likely after Doncaster have started their return to League One in style, picking up seven points from their first three games.  Lee Grant will have to decide whether to stick with his players that started against Blackpool or bring in new players to freshen up the lineup. I talked about this dilemma, among other things, in my pre-match talking points article, so read that next if you want to hear more of my thoughts on this match.  Otherwise, here's my predicted lineup for tonight…. Goalkeeper: Owen Goodman While Goodman wasn’t to blame for any of the three goals we conceded against Blackpool, I think he c...
Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Blackpool

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Blackpool

Matches, Predicted lineups
Huddersfield Town take on Blackpool later today in a game that sees Town, with a record so far this season of three wins in three, take on Blackpool with the opposite form to Town, having lost all three of their games.  It's possibly a good time to take on Steve Bruce's team before they've properly hit their stride but Lee Grant warned in his pre-match press conference that they could be more dangerous because of their bad start.  Here's how I think Town will line up… Goalkeeper: Owen Goodman Lee Nicholls was the penalty shootout hero on Wednesday night but his kicking was noticeably more reserved than Goodman's has been, which often put Town on the back foot when building up from the back. Goodman has looked like an accident waiting to happen so far but has yet to co...
All change! Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Leicester in the League Cup

All change! Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Leicester in the League Cup

Matches, Predicted lineups
Huddersfield Town face Leicester in the League Cup tonight and will most likely be making a raft of changes to the eleven that started the game against Reading at the weekend. These sorts of games would be a nightmare to predict the lineup if I cared about being accurate but I actually enjoy the challenge of cup fixtures even if it is a fool's errand.  Here's how I think we'll lineup but if I get 7 out of 11 right I'll be pleased with myself… Goalkeeper: Lee Nicholls  Jacob Chapman's injury means Lee Nicholls is the only experienced pro who can replace Goodman. This could be Nicholls’ last game for the club, as he seems too good a keeper to play second fiddle to a loanee keeper. It'll be interesting to see how he behaves at full time, an emotional farewell to the fans is...
May and Taylor both starting? Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to face Reading

May and Taylor both starting? Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to face Reading

Matches, Predicted lineups
Huddersfield Town head to Reading for a Saturday lunchtime game, where they’ll be hoping to keep their momentum going after beating Leyton Orient 3-0 last weekend. There are fitness doubts over Marcus Harness and Sean Roughan but better news in terms of Josh Feeney being available now after suspension and Murray Wallace getting closer to full fitness.  Despite Reading losing their opening game to Lincoln, they will provide stiff opposition for Town and I have a feeling we’ll see a good game. While I thought League One would be full of cloggers when Town were relegated, there are actually quite a few teams that want to play football on the ground and build up possession from the back, Reading are one of those teams. So I'm expecting two teams having a good go at each other and some ...
