Huddersfield Town fell to a 4-0 defeat to a clinical Tottenham side that severely punished some silly mistakes from Town. This match showed the gulf in class between the top six teams and the rest of the Premier League. We've been competitive in all six of our previous games, but against Spurs we never stood a chance. Having said that, Town didn't play all that badly. A few players had bad days and made silly errors, but we played some nice football at times and looked like we might cause an upset when we flew at Spurs in the opening minutes. Sadly we caught Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen on good days and they ripped us to pieces. I think this game will have taught Wagner and his men some valuable lessons and it's really not a big deal to catch a beating from an in-form Spurs team. He...

5 Talking points from Huddersfield Town’s draw with Burnley

Matches, Opinion
Huddersfield Town played out a scoreless draw with Burnley, with neither side doing enough to take all three points. Here are some of the major talking points from the game. Includes THAT dive, gushing praise for Schindler, talk about our lack of goals, Dyche love for Hogg, and a quick look at our run of upcoming fixtures. van La Parra's dive Having seen a replay it looks pretty bad. In real time it looked like he was playing to win a penalty and didn't get the contact he was aiming for. Is it cheating to try and draw a foul in the box? Probably not. Is it cheating to hurl yourself at the ground under minimal contact? Yes. If VLP had been more cunning and drawn significant contact from Lowton he'd have received plaudits for "winning" a penalty. As it stands he deserves a bit of stick fo...

Burnley 0-0 Huddersfield Town- TerrierSpirit.com Player ratings

Huddersfield Town went to Burnley and played out a fairly tedious 0-0 draw. Neither side generated the moment of quality that was needed to secure a win. A point away at Burnley isn't a bad result for Town and there were some good performances. But it's hard not to wonder if we could have won it with just a bit more quality in the final third. Lössl - 7 out of 10 Had very little to do, but his distribution was once again superb. Short, mid, and long-range passes all found their man. His quick thinking and accurate kicks started a couple of breaks for Town. Löwe - 6 out of 10 Another below par performance from the German. He seems to have lost some confidence, getting basic things wrong and being hesitant with his positioning. Schindler - 9 out of 10 (Man of the Match) Yet again, a...

6 talking points from the Leicester home game

Huddersfield Town drew one all with Leicester in their latest Premier League game. It was a relief to see Huddersfield recapture their “terrier spirit” after a lacklustre performance in their defeat against West Ham. Here are some of the major talking points from the game... Kachunga’s “offside" goal and the case for video refereeing Elias Kachunga nodded in from Zanka’s strike and had the goal disallowed. In the stadium, I thought the linesman had made a good call because he was on his own when he headed home. However, the replay shows it was incredibly tight and was most probably onside. Two points could be the difference between survival and relegation for Town (or Champions League or Europa League qualification). It seems cruel that such fine margins could have such a huge influe...
8 positives from the defeat at West Ham

8 positives from the defeat at West Ham

Matches, Opinion
Huddersfield Town were beaten 2-0 away at West Ham and it hurt to see us lose our first Premier League game. Particularly as Town lacked their usual terrier spirit, and struggled to cope with West Ham's physical approach. It wasn't all doom and gloom though. Here are some of the positives from the game... Town's fans are building a great reputation I was at the game, so couldn't hear how we sounded on TV but my brother said we came across as creating a good atmosphere. From my position in the stands, it sounded like each and every Town fan was singing and cheering the team along. It's easy to give passionate support to your team when things are going well, but when the game turned against us the singing continued and the players got every bit of support we could give them. Our vocal s...

Huddersfield Town v Newcastle – Player ratings

Matches, Opinion
Huddersfield Town played their first ever Premier League home game against Newcastle United and came out on top thanks to an Aaron Mooy strike. Town have won two out of two in the Premier League and find themselves second in the table. It was another excellent performance from Town and the scores for the players reflect another good day's work for the squad. Nobody had a bad performance and a few were exceptional. Let's hope Town can keep up this level of quality for as long as possible. Lössl - 8 out of 10 The game would have been completely different if Lössl didn't make the brilliant, full-strength save from Matt Ritchie’s strike. His distribution was very good, again. I'm delighted that a deal is in place to make his loan move permanent at the end of the season if we want to. He ...
Huddersfield Town’s transfer business: an intelligent gamble

Huddersfield Town’s transfer business: an intelligent gamble

Opinion, Transfers
Huddersfield Town’s summer transfer dealings came thick and fast in early July, with 9 players either bought or borrowed in the space a few weeks. It's 10 transfers if you include Kachunga, but the intention to make his loan permanent was decided long before July so I don't think he counts A flurry of early transfer activity made us one of the big spenders in the Premier League and has some rival fans and media pundits suggesting we were panic buying. Less charitable pundits likened us to contestants on Dale Winton’s Supermarket Sweep, with David Wagner cramming every available player into his trolley as he raced around the aisles. Time will tell whether this was a fair assessment but I feel certain it’s wrong. As does sports writer Raj Bains: https://twitter.com/BainsXIII/status/88262...
SQUAD REPORT: Do Huddersfield Town have 2 players for every position?

SQUAD REPORT: Do Huddersfield Town have 2 players for every position?

Opinion
Since the flurry of transfer activity in early July, Huddersfield Town have more than enough players to name in their 25-man squad for their first year back in the top-flight. However, are they all Premier League standard players? In this article, we'll look at each position in David Wagner's 4-2-3-1 formation to see if there are two players for each position on the pitch that are good enough to compete in the Premier League. Away ticket priority – Who are the winners and losers?

Away ticket priority – Who are the winners and losers?

Matches, Opinion
Huddersfield Town have confirmed the priority system for their forthcoming season in the Premier League. As predicted in my earlier article about the difficulties in working out an away ticket priority system, many fans have been left feeling aggrieved. There are winners and losers with the system that’s been announced but I personally think that the club have done a good job of trying to make a system that gives everyone a chance but rewards fans that have followed the club for the longest. The system isn’t completely fair though, so here’s my interpretation of the winners and losers. Embed from Getty Images The winners in the away ticket priority system Blue and White Foundation members, Terriers on Tour members or patrons that have had a season ticket for the last three ...
Six things we learned from the Accrington Stanley friendly

Six things we learned from the Accrington Stanley friendly

Matches, Opinion
As I said in my preview of the Accrington Stanley friendly, I'm not a big fan of preseason games. I find them frustrating to watch even though I know that they're meant for building fitness rather than entertaining the crowds. Having said that, there are a few things we can take away from the game which are quite interesting. Here are six things I noticed: Embed from Getty Images Nahki Wells may have to play deeper to get game time Last night Nahki Wells played in the second-half 11, alongside Laurent DePoitre. I thought this may have represented a change in formation to accommodate two strikers but it seems that Nahki played deeper, as a number 10. He later played in central midfield when Kasey Palmer replaced Mark Hudson. I don't think he's likely to play in the midfiel...
