Hudderfield Town pre-Stevenage press conference summary – Michael Duff & Brodie Spencer’s comments

Hudderfield Town pre-Stevenage press conference summary – Michael Duff & Brodie Spencer’s comments

News
Brodie Spencer and Michael Duff faced the press pack in advance of Town's first home game of their League One campaign against Stevenage on Saturday afternoon.  As the club only publish their pre-match press conferences in video format, I thought I'd experiment with summarising the main things discussed in bullet points. Obviously you'd really need to watch the full press conference if you want to hear everything said but I thought a quick and easily digestible summary might be helpful to some fans. Let me know in the comments if this is the kind of thing you'd like to see more of. Brodie Spencer's comments:  Spencer thinks he could have done better in the first game but acknowledges he's adjusting to a new position. Duff wants positivity and fight from his players. T...
Overthinking Huddersfield Town’s squad numbers – who might leave, the new leadership group and theories about what the numbers might mean

Overthinking Huddersfield Town’s squad numbers – who might leave, the new leadership group and theories about what the numbers might mean

News
Huddersfield Town announced their squad numbers for the 24/25 season yesterday and if you’re the kind of person who likes to scrutinise lists of numbers and names to try and find hidden meanings then this sort of thing will be right up your street. Obviously, squad numbers are relatively meaningless these days but then again, it was probably fairly significant to the handful of players that didn't receive a squad number at all.  There was also some information about a new leadership group for the coming season which provided some hints at some players that maybe aren't expected to be around for much longer. So I'll speculate about that stuff too.  Shirt numbers and leadership group for Huddersfield Town 24/25 Here are this season's squad numbers: 1 - Lee Nicholls ...

Alfie May… or may not sign, training returns, Sorba’s narrative, home kit, first friendly & Kev’s gesture – A Hudersfield Town roundup

News
The bit after the season ends and before the next season starts is always a slow period for Town related stuff. But now we're entering into preseason the trickle of Town news is now starting to accelerate. So to celebrate, I thought I'd do an article to summarise my thoughts on the recent Town-related goings on.  There isn't really a theme to all this stuff, it's just everything that I've nearly, but not quite written a dedicated article about in the last week or two. Now we're into preseason and the transfer market is hotting up so there should be more to write about in the coming weeks. But for now, here's my roundup of all the recent Huddersfield Town news. Alfie May… or may not sign for Town I had a whole section written about Alfie May's potential transfer being up in t...
Are Huddersfield Town already over the limit of League One’s squad size rules?

Are Huddersfield Town already over the limit of League One’s squad size rules?

News
Following Huddersfield Town's relegation, they will now have to submit to League One's rules about squad sizes, meaning they will need to name a squad with a maximum of 22 players. This doesn't sound very many, and looking at the players still under contract on Town's retained list, we've well over this number - 28 in fact. Should we be panicking and having a fire sale of players? Obviously not, particularly as there will be plenty of comings and goings before the end of the season and not all of those 28 players are included in the 22-player limit.  But I thought it would be interesting to take a look at League One's squad size rules in detail and see how they might affect Huddersfield Town. I suspect they may have an impact on decision-making for transfers, loans and contracts - part...
Who are the favourites to be the next Huddersfield Town manager?

Who are the favourites to be the next Huddersfield Town manager?

News, Transfers
Andre Brietenreiter has deemed League One beneath a coach of his abilities, despite the fact he signed a two and a half year contract with a team hovering precariously about the relegation zone to League One, then could only manage two victories in 13 games in charge. I'm glad the German has left now and given us time to achieve a fresh start but it seems a bit rich that he's walking away because he thinks he's too good for the level the club is playing at, when he had a part in us ending up at that level (though obviously there are many, many other factors in Town's relegation). Breitenreiter walking away from Town after guiding them to League One feels a lot like someone soiling their own bed and then complaining about the smell.  So you can probably sense that I'm not too disap...
The main points from Kevin Nagle’s end-of-season video diary & 3 things that weren’t covered

The main points from Kevin Nagle’s end-of-season video diary & 3 things that weren’t covered

News
Kevin Nagle has released his bumper end-of-season video diary, where he has taken questions that his friend Carmichael Dave has collected from Town fans and various other sources in order to get some clarity from Huddersfield Town’s owner about key issues following the team’s disappointing 23/24 campaign. Kevin Nagle has made these video diary chats with his pal a regular feature of this last season and they have been useful insights into his current thinking and the latest news from behind the scenes.  The latest video diary, naturally, focussed on the impact of Huddersfield Town’s relegation to League One and plans for the future. I’ll save you skimming all the details below and let you know he didn’t confirm either way whether Andrew Breitenreiter was staying on but he did his ...
8 revelations from Andre Breitenreiter’s press conference & 2 hints he might be leaving

8 revelations from Andre Breitenreiter’s press conference & 2 hints he might be leaving

News
Prematch press conferences can be quite dull affairs, where the manager will go out of his way to evade questions and give the least interesting answer possible. Darren Moore was a master of giving the longest possible response to every question without revealing anything meaningful and I can imagine journalists would end his forty or fifty-minute sessions wondering how they could scratch together an article or two out of his wittering. Andre Breitenreiter did the absolute opposition in his pre-Ipswich press conference and used it as an opportunity to vent all his pent-up feelings about the no-good players he’s had to make excuses for these past few months. It had a similar feeling to Father Ted accepting the Golden Cleric award, if anyone remembers that scene from the 90s sitcom.  ...
Two sackings, one new arrival and another steps back – Things are hotting up at Huddersfield Town

Two sackings, one new arrival and another steps back – Things are hotting up at Huddersfield Town

News
While we’re still waiting for the big news of official confirmation of Kevin Nagle’s takeover of Huddersfield Town being officially approved and the announcement of the widely reported rumour of Neil Warnock’s (latest) return - there is at least some news to report from Huddersfield Town.  The club have appointed Jake Edwards as the new CEO of the club and at the same time, David Baldwin has stepped back from Managing Director to a more advisory role. Edwards hasn’t hung around, as in his first full day in the job he sacked Leigh Bromby, the head of football operations, and Mark Clements, the goalkeeping coach. Here are my thoughts on these latest comings and goings at Town. Jake Edwards appointed as CEO - an impressive appointment I’m not the type of person to start dancing i...

Takeover wait, retained list, season review, manager rumblings, Tweet mistake & Championship lineup – Huddersfield Town news roundup

News
We're in the deadzone of Town news, where the players are all on holiday, the season is over and nothing much is happening. There are still a few bits and pieces of Town news going on though, so I thought I'd put together a roundup article to summarise my thoughts on the recent Huddersfield Town-related goings on. Here we go… The Nagle takeover waiting game The big thing that Town fans are all waiting on is the final confirmation that Kevin Nagle's takeover is complete and the American can formally take the reins at Huddersfield Town. Nagle is limited in what he can say publicly at the moment but he's confirmed that it's progressing well and it sounds like we're near the final stages of the League's check to approve his purchase. Though I'm not sure anyone but the men with the sh...

Thoughts on Kamberi, Lowton, Luton, HTSA questions, loan recalls & January transfer window

News, Transfers
Rather than try and rush out five blogposts on various different Town-related topics in one day, I thought I’d do a quick roundup article to cover off all the relevant goings on that occurred this week for Town. It’s been a pretty busy week, with the aftermath of the Luton game to pick over, two new arrivals, the supporters’ association publicly demanding a meeting with the club and plenty of transfer rumours and plenty of loan recalls.  Here are my thoughts on the latest Huddersfield Town goings on, in no particular order… Looking back on Luton I’m way too late to get too deep into the Luton game last Sunday and I think the bones have already been picked over that game. Here are my bullet point thoughts on the game: Luton had more cutting edge in the final third and that...
