Huddersfield Town suffered their first defeat of their Premier League season against West Ham at the London Stadium. The Hammers deserved to win on the night, but the goals conceded were both a bit unlucky. Town's performance wasn't as at the same level as their other Premier League games so far. Find out below how the individual players got on. Jonas Lössl - 7 out of 10 Not at fault for either goal and didn't do much wrong otherwise. He made a good save from a deflection in a crowed box from a corner in the first half. Embed from Getty Images Chris Löwe - 5 out of 10 Had a tough night up against Antonio, who was stronger and faster than Löwe. He also fluffed a couple of good crossing opportunities. An uncharacteristic bad performance, which can be forgiven after his excellent for...

Everything you need to know about West Ham v Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Town head to London to take on West Ham United on Monday night. The two sides could hardly have more contrasting situations going into the game. West Ham have lost all three of their opening fixtures. Their manager is on the brink of being sacked. Their owners are about to launch legal action against another club after being called “the dildo brothers”. Things look pretty bleak at West Ham right now. Huddersfield Town, on the other hand, have seven points out of nine so far in the Premier League, the manager has the most secure job in the division, and our owner is probably one of the best in all of club football. All the signs point to a Town victory. The only word of caution I’d add is that Town often fare better when tipped as the underdogs. Just look back to Burton Albi...

Huddersfield Town’s best month ever? – August 2017 roundup

Matches
Expectation levels were so high for Huddersfield Town's return to the top-flight of English football it was going to be hard to meet them. Yet, somehow, the start to Huddersfield Town's first season in the Premier League went far better than anyone ever hoped. Town took seven points from a possible nine and went into the international break third in the League, having twice briefly occupied the top spot. Here's a round-up of one of the best ever months to be a Town fan... Crystal Palace away Our first game in the top-flight was a special occasion and it was reassuring to see Town playing with their signature high-tempo style when they took on Crystal Palace. Unfortunately for Palace, they were still adapting to their new manager's "total football" approach and crumbled in the face of ...
6 reasons Robert Green is a good signing for Huddersfield Town

6 reasons Robert Green is a good signing for Huddersfield Town

Transfers
Huddersfield Town have signed Robert Green after his contract at Leeds was mutually terminated. He comes in to provide experienced cover for Jonas Lössl and potentially even push the Dane for a place in the starting XI. Not every Town fan has been happy about his arrival because he's come from Leeds, has made some high-profile errors in the past and will limit Joel Coleman's chances in our first team. I think he's a great signing, here are six reasons to be pleased about Green becoming a terrier: Robert Green is still a good keeper The main reason I'm happy to have Green arrive at Huddersfield Town is that he's still a very good keeper. He played every league game for Leeds last season and managed to pull off some impressive saves. YouTube highlight reels are notoriously unreliable ...
The 5 most interesting stats from the Southampton home game

The 5 most interesting stats from the Southampton home game

Matches, Tactics
Huddersfield Town drew with Southampton in their third Premier League game. It was one of the best 0-0 games I've ever seen, with plenty of chances and action. I've gone through the statistics websites and pulled out the five most interesting stats from the game and looked at what they mean. We put a lot of crosses into the box Squawka shows we played 32 crosses during the Southampton home game. Southampton managed just eight. It's been noticeable that we've changed our attacking style this season and often look to get the ball into the air and try to get Mounié on the end of it. Looking at the position the crosses came in from and where they ended up shows that we're now playing to Mounié's strength in the air. While we didn't get the goal we wanted against Southampton, if we can k...

Huddersfield Town drew 0-0 with Southampton in their third Premier League game, giving them seven points from the first three games and sending them (briefly) back to the top of the table. It was a stunning exhibition of counter-pressing football from Wagner's men. Southampton looked visibly shocked by the intensity Town brought to the pitch and will consider themselves lucky to be taking a point back to the south coast. This was another great team performance from Town, so it should be no surprise to see another set of high ratings. Jonas Lössl - 8 out of 10 Once again his distribution was superb. OK, he played a few loose balls out from the back in the second half but he played some great balls too. He also made another incredible save late in the game. He's stopped what looked li...

Everything you need to know about Huddersfield Town v Southampton

It's been a busy week for Town since beating Newcastle United last Sunday. We signed Sabiri, beat Rotherham in the league cup, and signed Hadergjonaj on loan. Now attention turns back to the Premier League, as Town host Southampton in their biggest challenge of the season so far. Huddersfield Town v Southampton – Match details Kickoff: 3 pm, Saturday 25 August 2017 - That's right, another 3 o'clock kickoff in the Premier League. Being unglamorous has its advantages. Ticket availability: Southampton requested a smaller allocation, so Town have more tickets than usual for the south stand. At the time of writing, it's still possible to buy tickets but it may sell out before kickoff. Likely lineup Wednesday's 2-1 league cup win against Rotherham didn't see any of Town's second string ma...

Who is Florent Hadergjonaj and how do you pronounce his name?

Transfers
Town’s need of a backup right-back was the worst kept secret in football this summer. We’ve had failed bids, failed trials and failed medicals. Finally Town have secured a right-back to compete with Tommy Smith. Better still, he looks like a good one. Welcome to Town Florent Hadergonea… Hadagoodgo… Haduken… Hader... Welcome Flo! Seriously though, his name is Florent Hadergjonaj. It doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but I’m sure we’ll get used to it pretty quickly. Particularly if this young right-back is as good as he looks. How to pronounce Hadergjonaj Who is Florent Hadergjonaj He’s an attacking right-back that Town have signed on loan from Ingolstadt with an option to buy him at the end of the season. A similar deal to the one we struck with them for Elias Kachunga. And that w...

6 positives from the Rotherham league cup game

Huddersfield Town beat Rotherham United 2-1 in the Caraboa Cup on Wednesday night. It wasn't a good Town performance and we were lucky to beat a spirited Rotherham United. There have been plenty of grumbles about the game online, so I thought I'd write about the positives we can take from the game. Jordan Williams looks like a good right-back Williams overlapped regularly and put in some decent balls to the box. He also tracked back well and looks like he can defend. Now Town have signed Florent Hadergjonaj it looks unlikely Williams will get many more chances to play for us this season.  Based on this performance I think a League One or Championship team would want to take him on loan. That would suit the player, Town and whichever club picks him up. Embed from Getty Images The frin...
Who is Abdelhamid Sabiri and how will he settle in at Huddersfield Town?

Who is Abdelhamid Sabiri and how will he settle in at Huddersfield Town?

Player profiles, Transfers
Huddersfield Town have signed Abdelhamid Sabiri from FC Nurnberg for an undisclosed fee. The deal was rumoured to be happening weeks ago, but had gone cold until a resurfacing this week. The fee is rumoured to be around £1m, but I’d expect the relatively low initial fee will be bolstered by add ons and sell-on clauses. Sabiri is 20 years old, plays in the number 10 role and has is highly rated in Germany. He was born in Morrocco but has dual citizenship, as he’s lived in Germany since he was three. He’s signed a three-year contract, with Town having the option to extend by a further year. He's the tenth player to sign for Town this summer (not including Kachunga, who's loan became permanent in July but was agreed in the spring). He’s not played many senior football games, but last seaso...
