4 times the Huddersfield Examiner crossed the line when reporting Town, according to the ATT Voices Panel

4 times the Huddersfield Examiner crossed the line when reporting Town, according to the ATT Voices Panel

Opinion
In the last At The Town Voices Panel meeting there was a discussion between fans and club officials about the conduct of the Huddersfield Examiner. I wasn’t at the meeting, but the minutes released this week suggest fans highlighted perceived bad behaviour from the local paper and asked some pointed questions about whether the club would continue to work with them. Here’s the most relevant bit of the minutes: [The Voices Panel] Understand [The Examiner] are a business and need to sell papers but feel they are abusing their position at the Club and not upholding the code of conduct that the Club abide by and their behaviour doesn’t fit the Club ethos. The response from the club about these comments was fairly non-committal. They praised the support they’ve received over the years ...
Bury 0-4 Huddersfield Town – Analysis of all Town’s goals

Bury 0-4 Huddersfield Town – Analysis of all Town’s goals

Matches
Town travelled to Bury for their opening preseason game last night. Here’s a breakdown of all the goals Town scored, with tweets from the club showing clips of each goal. For some reason the quality of the clips in the tweets isn’t great for me. If you’d like to see the highlights in better quality, I’d suggest checking out the Sky Sports highlights of Huddersfield Town’s 4-0 victory. Alex Pritchard opens the scoring https://twitter.com/htafcdotcom/status/1016762173350141953 Philip Billing makes a driving run through central midfield, lays the ball off to Pritchard in the left channel and he drills the ball in from an acute angle. Billing did well to get forward and find an attacking player in a dangerous position, but there wasn’t nearly enough pressure on the ball from Bury. Prit...
5 things to watch out for in Town’s friendly with Bury

5 things to watch out for in Town’s friendly with Bury

Matches
Town are set to face their first friendly game of their preseason tonight against Bury. It’s the second preseason in a row we’ve visited Bury in a friendly, with Town winning 3-1 when we played them last July. It feels strange to be playing friendlies while England are still involved in a World Cup. Stranger still, the game will be taking place at the same time as France take on Belgium in their other World Cup semi-final. Here are a few things to watch out for in today's game... Will our new signings make their first appearance? One of the biggest draws of preseason friendlies is the chance to see new arrivals pull on a Town shirt for the first time. It’s likely anyone at the game will get to see Ben Hamer between the sticks at some stage and Juninho Bacuna is also likely to g...

The potential significance of Huddersfield Town’s squad numbers

News
Huddersfield Town have announced their squad numbers for the forthcoming season. In the absence of anything more substantial to write about, I’m going to take a look at the potential significance (or not) of the squad numbers handed out. Scannell drops down the pecking order (and towards the door?) Sean Scannell has vacated his number 7 shirt and dropped down to 28. This seems like a clear signal that he’s unlikely to form part of David Wagner’s plans for the forthcoming season. He was loaned out to Burton Albion last season before returning to Town after an injury. I suspect Scannell is one of those unfortunate players that would have had a future at Town if we were in the Championship, but aren’t quite up to Premier League standard. It’s a shame, because Scannell has been a good pla...
Who is the young lad training with Town’s first team?

Who is the young lad training with Town’s first team?

Player profiles
It’s Matt Daly. He’s one of Town's academy players but has been brought in to train with the first team despite being the tender age of 17. He’s an exciting prospect, and the fact he’s stepping up to train with our first team suggest the coaching team at Town think a lot of him. But who is he? I’ve scratched around the internet to find out a few bits and pieces about him. Who is Matt Daly? Matt Daly is an England under-17s international and plays regularly for Town’s youth teams. He arrived from Everton’s youth system a few years ago and is one of our most promising youth players. He plays as an attacking winger/inside forward kind of role. He comes from Stockport, signed for Oldham’s youth team when he was eight, and then went to Everton after a couple of seasons. He was named Eve...
Which Town players might leave this summer?

Which Town players might leave this summer?

Opinion, Transfers
Yesterday I wrote about the areas of the pitch that Town need to strengthen, so today I thought I’d write about who we might be losing this window. I’m not saying these players should leave, or criticising their efforts for Town, it’s just speculation about who might be on their way before the window closes. If I was in Wagner's position, I'd be reluctant to disrupt the squad with wholesale changes. The team we had last season was good enough to keep us up, so we don’t need to get rid of too many. Players that might leave Here are my thoughts about players that might leave… Rajiv van La Parra It wouldn't surprise me to see van La Parra leave in the summer if anyone comes in for him. The talk in the papers about him wanting to move to a bigger club was widely mocked when it came ...
Which three areas do Town need to strengthen?

Which three areas do Town need to strengthen?

Opinion
Huddersfield Town have already been busy in the transfer market this summer, but I think there are still some signings needed before the window closes. I don’t know which specific players will be coming in, but here are the three areas of the pitch we most need to bring in some new blood. A quality winger Every Town fan I've spoken to about this transfer window has said that our priority has to be to add some creativity to the final third. Kachunga, Ince, VLP, and Quaner all had their moments last season but for various reasons they didn't contribute enough goals or assists between them. Ramadan Sobhi's arrival adds something to this area of the pitch, but he's likely to start out as a squad player. I think one high-quality addition will push Town on. There are press reports linki...
Relive the best moments of the 2017/18 season through the lens of these Town vloggers

Relive the best moments of the 2017/18 season through the lens of these Town vloggers

Matches, Opinion
I'm enjoying the World Cup, but it's not the same as watching Town. I'm badly missing seeing the Terriers and it feels like a long time until the season starts, so  I've gone back and picked out best vlogs from last season. It's a chance to relive some key moments from a slightly different perspective. Vloggers (video bloggers) get a bit of stick sometimes from other fans, but I like them. At their best, they capture the feeling of supporting a football club a lot better than traditional TV can. They're not perfect, and the production values are mixed, but being rough and ready is part of their charm for me. MATTWRLD - Crystal Palace 0-3 Huddersfield Town https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lT0ZGDRSAO8 Mattwrld has put together the best produed vlogs of any Town fans last season, which...
Who are the winners and losers from Town’s points based priority system?

Who are the winners and losers from Town’s points based priority system?

Opinion
Huddersfield Town have launched a new away ticket priority system, which they’ve introduced to help work out who is most entitled to be at the front of the queue. Last season’s system caused acrimony among some supporters, who felt their loyalty to the club was being snubbed. The biggest change is moving away from consecutive years’ season ticket purchases as priority, to points being given to fans for more varied reasons. But who stands to gain the most and who’s going to lose out from this scheme? How are the points given out? Here’s a quick summary of how you can earn loyalty points under the new system: Season tickets purchased since the 08/09 season - 25 points each Away tickets purchased last season (including cup games) - 1-5 points per game (depending on distance a...
Juninho Bacuna – Who is he and how will he fit in at Town?

Juninho Bacuna – Who is he and how will he fit in at Town?

Player profiles, Transfers
Juninho Bacuna has signed for Huddersfield Town from FC Groningen for an undisclosed fee. Unlike other recent “undisclosed” transfer fees, there’s no mention in the press of how much we’ve spent. The Transfer markt website values him at £1.35m, but I suspect we’ll have paid more than that. Who is Juninho Bacuna? He’s a promising 20-year-old Dutch footballer that has played a surprising number of games for his age. Bacuna has played all his career at FC Groningen, but has experience of playing youth international football for the Netherlands, and was selected for the U21 team as recently as last March. He’s played over 80 times in the Dutch top-flight, so has been playing first team football for a number of years. To put that into context, Philip Billing is two years older and has ...
