“Unacceptable” – Player ratings for Huddersfield Town’s disastrous defeat to Bradford City

Huddersfield Town suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat against local rivals, Bradford City. After a positive start to the game, Town’s defence had a collective meltdown for three soft goals before half time. While Town pulled one back after making a raft of changes and getting on the front foot, the game was never really a contest after Bradford scored their third. The defeat felt like a collective failure as much as any significant individual being to blame, even though there were plenty of individuals to blame too. Huddersfield Town renew their rivalry with Bradford City on Saturday lunchtime after over a decade since they last met. Even putting aside the fact this is a local derby, it's third playing fifth in the League One table, so it's a game where two of the better teams in the league face off against each other. Town will need to be at their best to get something from this game and that means picking the right team to start the game. Huddersfield Town make the short trip to Valley Parade to take on Bradford City on Saturday lunchtime to renew their local rivalry. These two teams haven’t played against each other in 12 years and it’s 17 years since we played in the same league as them. Bradford City have spent a long time in the doldrums and as a result there are a generation of Huddersfield Town fans that haven’t seen these two rivals on the pitch together. Huddersfield Town came from behind to win 3-2 against Peterborough on Saturday afternoon. Town struggled to overcome an organised and committed approach from Peterborough and it wasn't until Castledine and Alves were subbed on did we really get a good grip on this game. Three goals during this dominant spell meant the late goal from Peterborough was merely a consolation prize and the three points stayed in Huddersfield. If you're a glass half full person, then you'll focus on the huge improvement we made later in the game but skeptical fans will have seen plenty to set off alarm bells in that opening hour. Huddersfield Town struggled against Peterborough yesterday but managed to get their act together after going 1-0 down, scoring three goals before Peterborough's late consolation goal made it 3-2. The drab first hour of the game raises concerns but the final half an hour had plenty of entertainment and dynamism. So this game was a real Jekyll and Hyde performance, with most of Towns' best players coming off the bench to turn the tide. Lee Nicholls - 6 out of 10 At the time of writing, I've not seen replays of either Peterborough goals but the first looked like another horrendous deflection and the second saw the ball go to the far post, so Nicholls couldn't get across. Huddersfield Town take on Peterborough this afternoon at the Accu Stadium. Peterborough are usually a strong League One team but this season they have picked up a solitary point from their opening five games and have only scored two goals in those outings. Lee Grant has spoken about needing to be cautious of Peterborough as they are better than their current league position suggests. There were also a handful of deadline day signings that will make them stronger. Huddersfield Town are hosting Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon. With the away side in horrendous form, it looks like a good opportunity for Town to bounce back from their defeat to Barnsley last weekend. Huddersfield Town beat Newcastle United’s Under 21 6-2 on Tuesday night and the scoreline, if anything, flatters Newcastle United’s youngsters as it was clear from the first 30 seconds of this game that Town would be comfortable winners. Even though the opposition was modest, Town remained professional and put in a disciplined performance where they did enough to convincingly beat their opponent without having to push themselves too hard. Huddersfield Town signalled their intent to go deep into the Vertu trophy last night when they beat Newcastle Under 21s 6-2. The game itself was a complete mismatch, with Newcastle’s youngsters looking like rabbits in the headlights at times. While there was a sprinkling of talent among Newcastle’s team, they had nothing like the same level of match sharpness or tactical understanding to be able to compete on an even footing in this game. Despite making lots of changes from the weekend’s starting eleven, Lee Grant fielded a strong team, with Daniel Vost being the only player not a proper first team player. While a game with eight goals in it would usually be described as a thriller, this game was a bit more like an unevenly balanced training match, played in front of a handful of fans....

Huddersfield Town kick off their Vertu Trophy campaign tonight against Newcastle's Under 21 team. Probably the least exciting game of the season and, in some ways, almost insulting that we're being asked to play against another team’s youth team. Even more so when you consider we were promoted to the Premier League the same year as Newcastle not that long since. While the reputation of this competition is about as bad as it can get, it's also an opportunity to win some silverware and to have a day out at Wembley.
