Huddersfield Town came away from Kenilworth Road with a 1-1 draw that sets up a winner-takes-all game at the John Smith's Stadium on Monday night. It was an evenly balanced game where each team had spells of dominance but a draw was an overall fair reflection of the game.  Both sides can feel aggrieved that obvious penalty decisions weren't given but at least the referee's two mistakes canceled each other out. Some other less vital decisions weren't quite right either but thankfully the poor officiating didn't spoil a tense but enjoyable encounter.  Here are a few of my thoughts on the game…  Town did well to cling on when they were struggling  The first half was not always pretty from a Town perspective. We did counter-attack well at times but long stretch...

It's nearly here! Town secured their place in the playoffs weeks ago, so it’s been a long wait but it's almost time for the playoffs. Town take on Luton at Kenilworth Road tonight in the first leg of their semi-final tie. Town are in good form at the moment and have players coming back from injury but Luton are a tough opponent so it won’t be easy. Here’s who I think Carlos wiil pick for this vital game… Goalkeeper: Nicholls Jamal Blackman did fine last weekend against Bristol City but he wasn’t Nicholls. There wasn’t a lot for the keeper to do in fairness but I missed having that sense of calm and organisation that Nicholls brings to the pitch. I’m not sure Lee Nicholls is the best keeper that I’ve seen in my time supporting Town but he may be the one that I’ve got the most conf...
My 9 favourite tweets from Town’s win against Bristol City

My 9 favourite tweets from Town’s win against Bristol City

Social media
There were plenty of interesting tweets shared online after Town's victory against Bristol City on Saturday. Here are a few of my favourite ones. Steven Chicken has a go at a dizzy penalty https://twitter.com/JalehLShoghi/status/1522917017241718786 Fair play to Examiner writer, Steven Chicken, for having a go at a dizzy penalty at half time. While his execution wasn't the best, I doubt Mel Booth would have done the same in his heyday. You can read Steven's write up of the experience on the Examiner website, including a veiled threat to puke up on a fan. Nigel Pearson is generous with his praise for Town https://twitter.com/Cathalg56/status/1522951302896132102 He's usually a bit of a grump but Nigel Pearson was very generous in his praise for Town in his post-match c...

Huddersfield Town registered a comfortable 2-0 victory over a misfiring Bristol in the final game of the regular season despite fielding a weakened team. The game had the feel of a dead rubber at times but Town managed to raise their levels enough during certain spells to become dominant and create good chances. Forest conceding a late equaliser against Hull meant that Town finished above them and now face Luton Town in the playoff semi finals. Those games will provide a much stiffer challenge than a relatively poor Bristol City but it’s to Town’s credit that they managed to competently beat their opponent without expending more energy than they had to. Here are my individual player ratings. Jamal Blackman - 7 out of 10 Made a couple of smart saves from close range. Probably t...
Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Bristol City – Who will Carlos rest?

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Bristol City – Who will Carlos rest?

Huddersfield Town play Bristol City this lunchtime in a game that isn't likely to make a huge difference to Town's season one way or another (sorry to those that like a hit of prematch hype). There's a chance for Town to finish third rather than fourth if our result is better than Nottingham Forest's but that doesn't count for much as we don't know which teams will finish fifth or sixth. Even if we did, I don't think it matters who we play in the semis, they're all good but none are teams that Town should fear.  Carlos has a few injury concerns going into the game, a few players due a rest and others that will want to impress in the hopes they can get a game in the playoffs. Picking the lineup is a fool's errand given it's a dead rubber and they're are likely to be several changes...
Making luck, Toffolo’s extra gear, O’Brien’s knack for getting fouled, Chelsea loanee shines, getting the second – Notes on Town’s win against Coventry

Making luck, Toffolo’s extra gear, O’Brien’s knack for getting fouled, Chelsea loanee shines, getting the second – Notes on Town’s win against Coventry

Huddersfield Town beat Coventry yesterday in a game that will have little influence on the final league placings for Town but helped to maintain momentum and confidence ahead of the playoffs. There was also a notable contribution from Tino Anjorin when he came off the bench, which suggests he may finally be coming good at just the right time in our season. Coventry were a tough opponent and probably deserved more from the game. But a combination of wasteful finishing from them and good defending from us meant that their late goal was merely a consolation and Town took the three points. Here are some of my thoughts on the game. Were Town lucky? I mentioned above that Coventry probably deserved more out of this game and that’s been a familiar story all season. Town have the knack fo...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Coventry – Will Carlos take this game seriously?

Huddersfield Town take on Coventry this afternoon in a rare Saturday three o'clock kickoff. Depending on your outlook, the game is a chance for Town to keep the possibility of a top-two finish alive, a chance to keep their form going and achieve the highest possible league position or it's of little more consequence than a preseason friendly.  As you'd expect, Carlos spoke in his press conference about how he is only focusing on this game, wants to respect the integrity of the competition and isn't worrying about the playoffs yet. But we've heard him say something similar before cup games and then made wholesale changes anyway. I have a suspicion that he won't rest the entire best eleven because he'll want to maintain momentum and injuries means he's already forced into a few unwe...
Is a Huddersfield Town season card cheaper than paying as you go?

Is a Huddersfield Town season card cheaper than paying as you go?

News
Huddersfield Town fans have just over a week before the deadline for the early bird prices expire on season cards. Many fans may have seen the numerous recent single ticket promotions to tempt in floating fans and wonder if it’s better value to pay as you go instead of committing for the full season. I know that it made me pause for a moment before renewing my own season ticket. Because I’m a complete sad act, I went back through the club’s ticket prices for all the home games in the league this season and added them up to see how it compares to the cost of a season card. I’ll go into the details below but the thing I took away from crunching all the numbers was that it’s significantly cheaper to have a season card than to pay as you go along. How much does it cost per game to watch...
Would promotion to the Premier League be a good thing for Huddersfield Town?

Would promotion to the Premier League be a good thing for Huddersfield Town?

Opinion
Huddersfield Town were everyone's pick for relegation favourites earlier this season and few Town fans grumbled because they expected much the same. So it's marvelous to be looking forward to a playoff campaign in a few weeks time, especially as Town have qualified with two games to spare.  I've said in the past that I don't really want Town to go up this season because our relegation season in the Premier League was so miserable and I wouldn’t want to spend a year being the whipping boys again. In an attempt to change my own mind, I'm going to write about all the reasons promotion will be a good thing for Huddersfield Town.  This squad has defied expectations and could do so again One of my big concerns about going up is the possibility of having to overhaul the squad ...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Barnsley – Who can fill Sorba’s shoes?

Huddersfield Town can confirm their entry to the playoffs with a win tonight over Barnsley. In fact, it's possible we could be certain of finishing in the top six if other results go our way even without a victory. Our opponents find themselves at the other end of the table and have to win to avoid confirming their relegation to League One. So plenty at stake in the Yorkshire derby!  Dialing down the hype a notch, Barnsley are almost certain to go down and Town are similarly likely to qualify for the playoffs. It’s not quite a dead rubber but I feel like I was a bit over the top in the opening paragraph. Regardless, it's likely to be a competitive game and there are, as the saying goes, no easy games in the Championship. Carlos has said he intends to name a strong lineup tonight, ...
