“Wow that was bad!” Reaction to Huddersfield Town’s 5-0 defeat to Bournemouth

“Wow that was bad!” Reaction to Huddersfield Town’s 5-0 defeat to Bournemouth

Huddersfield Town were soundly beaten on the south coast today against a Bournemouth team that won't have believed their luck after being gifted several goals following simple mistakes. Here are a few of my initial thoughts on the game. Feel free to add yours in the comments below. This article is a bit of an experiment. Rather than digest my thoughts on the game and write something up tomorrow I thought I'd just note down my scattergun opinions in bulletpoint form. Apologies if it comes across as a bit of a mess. That wasn't the kind of performance that felt like a walloping. We actually played some relatively nice football for spells in the game and forced a few decent saves from their keeper. The huge number of changes to the squad equated to Carlos conceding  defeat before ki...

How Huddersfield Town’s players reacted to the Millwall victory on social media

One of the best parts of Huddersfield Town's success under David Wagner was the "Wagner wave" when the players and coaches celebrated wins with the fans at the end of the game. Other teams' fans mocked us for doing it but it always felt like a special moment when everyone came together after a victory. Unfortunately the current circumstances mean that fans can't celebrate in person with the team, so it's nice to see them sharing their delight at the win on social media. Here are a few of yesterday's social media posts from the players. Harry Toffolo's big achievement https://twitter.com/Harry_Toffolo/status/1322585813151002626 It's incredible that Toffolo has managed to put together such a great run of games. With so much squad rotation and how easy it is to pick up injuries...

There's a Twitter user called @DymondFormation who makes amazing graphs for every Football League team after each fixture and publishes them for free on his Twitter feed. They're graphic representations of each player's passes over the course of 90 minutes, with each yellow arrow representing a successful pass and the red ones one that failed. The direction and the length of the arrows show where the pass started and finished. They provide a quick and easy way to analyse the passing game of any particular player. The graphics for Town's 2-1 defeat to Preston last Saturday illustrate some interesting points, which I'm going to dig into below... Kicking long doesn't relieve pressure on the defence Hamer having a 65% pass completion rate isn't a particularly enlightening st...

Huddersfield Town players post social media updates following Swansea victory

The spirit within the team was obvious for all to see in the game against Swansea yesterday, with Huddersfield Town's players showing a togetherness that suggests the squad are starting to bond into a team. There was further evidence of this online, as the players took to social media to savour the victory. Frazier Campbell sees the funny side of things https://twitter.com/FraizerCampbell/status/1317498994935955456 One of the team's jokers, Campbell shared a picture someone had made to make fun out of the way he jumped out of the way of Koroma's goal-bound shot (the picture and Hoggy's response can be seen below). The mini-Messi comment, I'm guessing, refers to Toffolo's continual popping up in the penalty area and coming very close to scoring two yesterday. Man of th...

8 of the best tweets following Town’s draw with Rotherham

Here's a quick round up of some of the best tweets about Saturday's last-minute draw against Rotherham. Joy and desolation captured in one image https://twitter.com/SkyBetChamp/status/1312427443597307906 I love this picture as it really sums up how football is often a zero-sum game - your moment of exhilaration and joy is coming at the expense of the other team's dismay and frustration. When you're used to being on the other side of that transaction it becomes even sweeter to snatch a point when it looked like all was lost. Retired blogger gives Rotherham some credit https://twitter.com/JohnInGlenavy/status/1312422771968937985 John, who used to run the TerrierBlog website, gave Rotherham the credit they deserved and attracted some stick from fellow Town fans. I thou...

Huddersfield Town players respond on social media to 1-0 victory over Forest

Huddersfield Town won their first game of the season last night and their players took to social media to celebrate. Now we're not able to celebrate victories in the stadium together, these messages online feel more important. With that in mind, here are the posts from the boys following the first three points of the season. Romoney Crichlow expresses his pride https://twitter.com/rcrichlow_/status/1309609319059644417 What a great performance from a young lad on his Championship debut. He looked at home on the left side of central defence and I can see Naby Sarr having to push hard to overtake him in the pecking order. Koroma blames Forest keeper for keeping out his effort https://twitter.com/longlivejk11/status/1309630210048917505 Koroma was one of our standout ...

My 11 favourite tweets from Huddersfield Town fans following Norwich defeat

Huddersfield Town fans are a broad church and represent a wide spectrum of opinions. Twitter is a melting pot where these views are expressed and that's what happens yesterday after Town's defeat to Norwich. Here are a selection of my favourite tweets about yesterday's game. HTAFC Statto reminds us that we don't tend to start well https://twitter.com/HTAFC_STATTO/status/1304852148337991680 We beat Brentford on the opening day of the promotion season and Crystal Palace in our first Premier League game and haven't won any of the rest since 2011. I suspect this trend may go back even further but haven't had time to research it. Losing by a single goal is better than expected https://twitter.com/Ben_Harrison25/status/1304836778151620610 I agree with Ben, we performed...
Huddersfield Town’s departing players leave heartwarming farewell messages

Huddersfield Town’s departing players leave heartwarming farewell messages

Matches
Today Huddersfield Town announced their retained list and said a sad farewell to some much-loved players. While the decision to release these players makes sense in terms of clearing the decks for a fresh start, it's still sad to see loyal servants to the club on their way. Most of the players leaving Town, including loan players returning to their parent clubs, left messages on social media to say farewell. These messages are fairly common place these days, but they feel more important in the current climate, given they did not have the chance to say goodbye to the fans in the stadium due to the ongoing pandemic. A special place in Kachunga's heart https://twitter.com/ekachunga15/status/1286618538862612480 What a lovely message and it's hard to disagree with the comment ab...

Cowley brothers sacked – what is going on?

Huddersfield Town released a statement this afternoon confirming that Danny and Nicky Cowley have been relieved of their duties. It wasn't a "mutual consent" kind of arrangement, it was clear that the club have sacked the managerial pair. The club's statement Here's the what the club's owner, Phil Hodgkinson, had to say: “I would like to place my thanks on record to Danny and Nicky for their hard work and dedication towards securing the Club’s place in the Sky Bet Championship for next season. That was the clear priority when they were appointed in September and we are very grateful that has been achieved. “We all wish Danny and Nicky all the best for the future and they leave with my best wishes in their future endeavours. “However, we have made this decision in the belief...

Here's a roundup of all the players' reaction to last night's 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion. Usually the players would celebrate with the fans on the pitch after the game but in the current world we live in, they had to settle for expressing themselves over social media. Here's what they had to say. (This post is a bit of an experiment, so feel free to add your thoughts about whether it's a good idea.) Trevoh Chalobah highlighted how doing the dirty work pays off https://twitter.com/TrevohChalobah/status/1284196751323398145 Emile Smith Rowe dedicated his goal to the fans https://twitter.com/emilesmithrowe/status/1284200102714683393 Lewis O'Brien shared a tender moment between him and Hoggy https://twitter.com/Lewis_OBrien98/status/1284210905652367362 ...
