Ferguson’s histrionics, first half struggles, turning it around and needing a break – Notes on Huddersfield Town’s 3-2 win over Peterborough

Matches, Notes
Huddersfield Town came from behind to win 3-2 against Peterborough on Saturday afternoon. Town struggled to overcome an organised and committed approach from Peterborough and it wasn't until Castledine and Alves were subbed on did we really get a good grip on this game. Three goals during this dominant spell meant the late goal from Peterborough was merely a consolation prize and the three points stayed in Huddersfield.  If you're a glass half full person, then you'll focus on the huge improvement we made later in the game but skeptical fans will have seen plenty to set off alarm bells in that opening hour. Maybe these issues are merely teething problems in a team that's gone through a great deal of change. Maybe it's the fault lines showing in fundamental flaws in Lee Grant's syst...

Huddersfield Town struggled against Peterborough yesterday but managed to get their act together after going 1-0 down, scoring three goals before Peterborough's late consolation goal made it 3-2. The drab first hour of the game raises concerns but the final half an hour had plenty of entertainment and dynamism.  So this game was a real Jekyll and Hyde performance, with most of Towns' best players coming off the bench to turn the tide.  Lee Nicholls - 6 out of 10 At the time of writing, I've not seen replays of either Peterborough goals but the first looked like another horrendous deflection and the second saw the ball go to the far post, so Nicholls couldn't get across. Three deflected goals in three games seems like rotten luck but I wonder if we're dropping too deep to...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Peterborough

Huddersfield Town take on Peterborough this afternoon at the Accu Stadium. Peterborough are usually a strong League One team but this season they have picked up a solitary point from their opening five games and have only scored two goals in those outings.  Lee Grant has spoken about needing to be cautious of Peterborough as they are better than their current league position suggests. There were also a handful of deadline day signings that will make them stronger. Yet, I can’t help but feel a convincing victory is needed from Town to get their promotion push back on the road after faltering at Barnsley last weekend.  Thankfully, Lee Grant has some tough choices in picking his starting eleven due to our strong squad and relatively small injury list. New loan signings Zepi Richmon...
A festering rivalry, new player availability, Nicholls’ big chance and woeful Posh – Talking points for Huddersfield Town v Peterborough

A festering rivalry, new player availability, Nicholls’ big chance and woeful Posh – Talking points for Huddersfield Town v Peterborough

Matches, Talking points
Huddersfield Town are hosting Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon. With the away side in horrendous form, it looks like a good opportunity for Town to bounce back from their defeat to Barnsley last weekend. Past history tells us that we always struggle against teams we expect to beat, so don't count your chickens just yet! We're still working out what kind of a team this new-look Town actually are this season, so maybe we're not that team that gives other clubs a chance to recover from bad runs. Maybe that's the old Town and we're now ruthlessly efficient at dispatching poor teams in bad form. It's possible. Here are my pre-Peterborough (Preterborough?) talking points. Could this be an easy win? The bookies aren't giving Peterborough much of a chance of winning this, with...
A superb start – Notes on Huddersfield Town’s 2-0 win over Peterborough United

A superb start – Notes on Huddersfield Town’s 2-0 win over Peterborough United

Matches
Huddersfield Town got off to the best possible start to life in League One with a 2-0 away win at Peterborough yesterday evening. While Town didn't have it all their way, they were worthy winners and did a particularly impressive job of seeing out the game in the second half and will perhaps wish the scoreline was more emphatic after creating several good chances to extend the lead further but not applying the finishing touch. The first game of the season always has too much importance applied to it, because football fans spend so long anticipating it but even allowing for that, the omens for Town’s upcoming season were good if this game can be used as a barometer. While Peterborough showed some impressive moments, Town weathered the storm and showed some excellent pressing play and use...

Technically speaking, there wasn't a break in the football this summer, as the Euros conveniently overlapped with the start of Huddersfield Town's preseason friendlies. But even so, international tournaments and preseason friendlies are really only the equivalent of methadone to the proper football fix that club football brings, or at least that's how I feel. So it feels like it's been forever since Town left the Championship with a whimper and hopefully between the start of May and the middle of August, Town had changed from a dreadful Championship team to a top League One team. We don't know if that's the case yet but the beauty of being a football fan is that a few weeks away from watching games washes away the weariness of a relegation season and a new sense of optimism can seep in.&nb...
Easy wins, swagger, playoffs, moaners, Forest overconfidence, no pressure and heavy rotation – Looking back at Peterborough and ahead to Forest

Easy wins, swagger, playoffs, moaners, Forest overconfidence, no pressure and heavy rotation – Looking back at Peterborough and ahead to Forest

Playing on a Friday and Monday night doesn’t give much time between games, so I’m going to look back at the Peterborough game and forward to the Forest game at the same time. If the turnaround between games isn’t enough for this blogger to recover then it’s likely the same can be said of the players' legs too, so I suspect we’ll see a significantly changed team against Forest. Anyway, after a weekend of results going very well for Town, we find ourselves sat in the automatic promotion spots and one game away from a mouth-watering fixture against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter finals. So things are going incredibly well for Town at the moment. Another easy victory  Just like the Birmingham game last weekend, the Peterborough game was an easy victory for the Terriers and the o...

“The Chelsea loanee needs time to adjust” – Player ratings for Town’s 3-0 win over Peterborough

Huddersfield Town extended their unbeaten run with a comfortable victory over Peterborough United last night. While there were brief moments of fight from the visitors, it was an incredibly one sided game where Town dominated throughout. Incredibly, this win took Town into the automatic promotion places for the night. While Bournemouth’s games in hand mean it’s unlikely to stay that way it is still remarkable. Carlos shuffled the pack with his selection last night and once again managed to field a team that was more than up to the job of dismantling the opposition. I can’t think of a time in recent memory when Town have had as strong a squad available. Even in the promotion season we relied on a core of twelve or thirteen players and the rest were pretty average (sorry Harry Bunn fans)....

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Peterborough tonight

Huddersfield Town kick off a busy weekend by playing Peterborough tonight in the league before switching their attention to Forest in the cup on Monday night. Peterborough sit bottom of the league and have recently parted company with Darren Ferguson and replaced him with Grant McCann. They haven't had any signs of a new(ish) manager bounce yet, losing to Man City and Hull in their new boss’ opening two games.  In talking about the selection for the next couple of games it would be easy to talk about resting players and fielding weaker teams but our squad is deep enough to be able to rotate heavily most games without seeing a drop in quality in the team. So I think there will be changes tonight but not out of lack of respect for our opponent or to prioritise the cup but simply to k...
