What can Nottingham Forest fans expect from Lewis O’Brien? A Huddersfield Town fan’s view

Player profiles, Transfers
At the time of writing it's not official but it seems increasingly likely that Lewis O'Brien will shortly both be confirmed as a Nottingham Forest player (alongside his best friend Harry Toffolo). It stings that our best player will be leaving us for the team that knocked us out in the playoff final, but we’ll be getting a transfer fee that’s rumoured to be in the region of £10m for him and it has been clear for over a year now that he was heading towards the Premier League, with or without Town. I’m going to look at Lewis O’Brien’s strengths, weaknesses, how he’s likely to fit in at Nottingham Forest and whether this is a good move for all the different parties involved.  What are Lewis O’Brien’s strengths? There are a few things that Lewis O’Brien does incredibly well. The...

I’ve been putting off writing this article because I’ve not wanted to dwell on Sunday’s game. Despite thinking before the game that I wasn’t too bothered about the outcome, defeat stung and the manner of the defeat even more so.  Huddersfield Town lost the game 1-0 to a Levi Colwilll own goal but the match will be remembered for two penalty decisions that weren’t given to Town in the second half of the game despite VAR being available. VAR, bad decisions and conspiracy theories From my position in the stands I could see the contact when Toffolo went over and was surprised when Moss didn’t give the penalty. Then when the game paused for the review, I was certain we’d be given the penalty and was outraged that the video referee didn’t spot the contact between Colback and Toffo...

5 key battles in today’s play-off final between Huddersfield Town and Nottingham Forest

Matches
The big day is finally here, Hudddersfiedl Town and Nottingham Forest fight it out for a place in the Premier League at half four today. Both teams have proven themselves to be more than capable over the course of the season and it should be a good game.  Winning individual battles is a big part of how any game is decided and today is no different. Here are a few of the most important matchups in today’s game and how I think they will go.  Lewis O'Brien v James Garner James Garner has all the expectation that comes with being a Manchester United youth player and clearly has potential to be a great in the future. Currently, I’m less convinced by him. He’s got touches of class about him but in the games I’ve seen him play against Town (including when we played Man United’...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Nottingham Forest tomorrow

It’s getting close now! After a very long wait and a lot of fussing about tickets, the playoff final is almost here. After 46 league games and two playoff semi-final matches, everything boils down to tomorrow’s winner-takes-all encounter against Nottingham Forest.  Carlos said that he has a virtually fully fit squad to pick from for tomorrow’s game in his pre match press conference. If I’m honest, I’m not sure I believe him and he may just be keeping his cards close to his chest to avoid giving an advantage to Forest. But I’m going to take him at his word for the purposes of this predicted lineup and pick the players I think Carlos will pick if all the main players are fit. Goalkeeper: Lee Nicholls He’s been a hero for Town already this season and the stage is set for him to...

6 reasons to feel confident about Huddersfield Town’s chances in the playoff final

It’s not long now until Huddersfield Town and Nottingham Forest take to the field at the national stadium to fight it out for a place in the Premier League. Despite not being too bothered about going up, I do desperately want Town to win the game anyway. I can’t explain these contradictory feelings but have accepted them now.  The bookies fancy Nottingham Forest and the national media have focussed mainly on them for their build up. I don’t particularly care about either of these things but I thought I might redress the balance by writing about why I think Town may have a good chance on Sunday. To be clear though, I’m writing this from the perspective of trying to convince myself that we’ll win, not from a position of arrogant expectation. Town are good at making games tight an...
Town fans beware: Sneaky Forest fans are trying to get tickets in our side of Wembley

Town fans beware: Sneaky Forest fans are trying to get tickets in our side of Wembley

News, Opinion
Notthingham Forest have sold out their allocation for the playoff final on Sunday and many of their fans have been left without a ticket. Some of these frustrated fans are living up to their nickname of the Tricky Trees, as they have taken to social media to try and con Huddersfield Town fans into buying them tickets. We have not yet sold out our allocation and tickets are on general sale for anyone who wants one, with one significant caveat. You can only buy a ticket in the Town end if you have previous booking history on the Huddersfield Town system. This measure is there to weed out cheeky Forest fans, though many are trying to circumvent this by getting Town fans to buy them tickets. Why are Forest fans trying to get tickets in the Huddersfield Town end of Wembley? There have...

Giving Hoyle a “problem”, withstanding a siege, O’Brien class and bold management – Notes on Nottingham Forest away

Huddersfield Town clung on to a 1-0 lead and emerged from their match against Nottingham Forest with all three points in a gritty performance that also required a hefty slice of luck to see us over the line. While the performance might not have been perfect, the victory leaves Town still in the playoff positions, at least until the teams below us play their games in hand. This game was Town’s third consecutive victory and caps off a fine finish to 2021 after a poor run of form in November and the first half of December. I’m still not convinced about the current Town team and coaching set up if I’m honest but the results don’t lie and Town are, for now at least, genuine playoff contenders. It seems strange to say that but if you’re sixth after more than half the season it seems an incon...

Predicted lineup for Swansea away, Carlos’ tactical dilemma, O’Brien’s new deal and the Forest hangover – A Huddersfield Town roundup

Huddersfield Town are in South Wales today to take on Swansea. After losing last week it feels like today’s game could offer a sign of whether the Forest game was a blip or if our previous good form was actually just a prolonged period of good fortune that has now come to an end. Is Carlos the messiah or a very naughty boy? It still feels hard to tell. I’m not going to just talk about today’s game in this post. A busy few days has meant that I’ve not been able to find time to write articles about Town’s deserved defeat to Notts Forest last weekend or Lewis O’Brien’s new contract that was announced earlier this week. So, inspired by those secured loan adverts of yesteryear, I’m going to consolidate all my Town ramblings on these subjects into one easy to manage article. Losing to For...

Predicted Huddersfield Town XI to take on Nottingham Forest

I used to work with a Forest fan that became inexplicably cross whenever I referred to her team as Notts Forest rather than saying Nottingham Forest. I never understood it but as a tribute to her, I’ll be referring to Town’s opponents today as Notts Forest despite knowing full well that isn’t the correct name. That’s how petty I am.  Back to Huddersfield Town, and things are going surprisingly well as we sit in fourth place in the table, are picking up decent results regularly and look like a good team all of a sudden. While it seems inconceivable that we’ll be able to sustain our current form over the whole season, Derby’s slide into administration and Notts Forest inability to register a win yet means we’re already pulling well clear of some of the teams towards the bottom of th...
Rebooting the game with dreary possession, taking chances, sloppy errors and survival maths – Notes on Town’s 2-0 victory over Forest

Rebooting the game with dreary possession, taking chances, sloppy errors and survival maths – Notes on Town’s 2-0 victory over Forest

Town's win over Nottingham Forest settled many Town fans' nerves at the weekend. It doesn't guarantee safety but it's a huge stride towards it.  There were good things and bad things in the match but ultimately, Town took their chances and Forest didn't, and that was the main difference between two fairly poor sides.  Here are a few of my thoughts on the match.  We could have been out of the game in the first 20 minutes  Town were really bad in the opening stages of this game. We played like we were half asleep for twenty minutes and could easily have conceded two or three goals purely from silly mistakes at the back.  I'm not completely sure what the problem was. I think nerves came into it, as the players looked scared and that made many play with...
