PLAYER RATINGS: Leicester 3-0 Huddersfield Town

Town were beaten 3-0 by Leicester at the King Power Stadium. It was a poor performance from Town, particularly after Mahrez’s opener early in the second-half.

Here are my player ratings after another disappointing away day in the Premier League.

leicester away

Lössl – 6 out of 10

I think he could have done better for the second goal, where he committed a bit too early when Slimani was through on goal. Not that it was his fault but he could have made it harder for the opposition by staying on his feet for longer.

Löwe – 6 out of 10

Had a tough task in marking Mahrez and mostly did a good job. Sadly wasn’t anywhere near him when he scored his goal though. Wagner said he had a painkilling injection in his foot to play but it now sounds like he could be out for a while.

Schindler – 8 out of 10

Our best player on the day. Kept his head when all about him were losing theirs. He regularly cleaned up the mistakes of his teammates and made some perfectly timed challenges.

Zanka – 5 out of 10

He’s been in fine form lately but he was poor against Leicester. His distribution wasn’t good, he got caught out of position and that allowed Slimani in for the second goal which killed off our chances of getting anything from the game.

Smith – 6 out of 10

Not an awful performance but whenever he had an opportunity to cross he wasn’t able to play the quality ball we needed.

Mooy – 7 out of 10

A better performance than against Burnley at the weekend but still made more errors than usual and his passing was erratic at times. Clearly he needs a rest, so he can get back to dominating games and dictating play for us.

Williams – 5 out of 10

Didn’t provide the defence with the level of cover Hogg always does, missed too many tackles and struggled to make an impact on the game. At times Leicester players waltzed passed him unchallenged.

van La Parra – 5 out of 10

He showed his good and bad points against Leicester. He made some great runs forward but his final product was poor. Those that love him will see his trickery and skill on the ball, those that hate him will see him trying to beat too many players and failing to deliver quality crosses.

Whether you’re a fan of his or not though, most will admit today was one of his poorer games.

Ince – 5 out of 10

Tried to feed off Mounié, tried to make runs at the opposition, tried to cause overloads in wide areas by linking with the wingers. None of it really came off though. I say it most games now, but he’s not a natural number ten and I hope he can be played out wide soon.

Lolley – 5 out of 10

I’ve been hoping to see Lolley start for a while now, but his first Premier League start wasn’t a classic performance. He drifted into the channel too much and just disappeared from the game. His positioning meant Löwe was often dealing with two Leicester players at once while Lolley stood still in the wrong area of the pitch.

I’m reluctant to say Lolley isn’t good enough for the Premier League because he might be able to find an extra level of performance. But based on his display at Leicester he may find his opportunities limited.

Mounié – 5 out of 10

Had little to no service from the attackers behind him and had to fight hard to get on the ball at all. He didn’t have a great game, but he needs support from those around him too.

We’ve seen how well he can head a ball when given good service, so it’s disappointing to see our crosses going nowhere near him all game.

Substitutes

Quaner – 6 out of 10

Showed willing when he came on but he wasn’t able to produce the moments of magic we need to create quality chances.

Malone – 6 out of 10

Made some decent runs forward but also made a blunder at the back which nearly cost us.

Depoitre – N/A

Did his usual hard work to close down the defence but wasn’t able to get a good chance to score in the short amount of time he had on the pitch.

We have too many players who are not good enough at this level but David Wagner must know this and gets the best out of what he has. We need more quality in the 3 behind the striker to feed Mounié and Depoitre and also provide more goals.
