Huddersfield Town’s friendly against Tranmere Rovers is going to be streamed by Tranmere Rovers on their Facebook page on Saturday afternoon at 12 noon. Obviously it’ll be much better to make the trip across the Pennines to cheer the Terriers on in person but for many fans that can’t make the journey, it will be nice to be able to watch on from afar and see some new and familiar face lineup in a warm up match ahead of the new season.
The stream is being organised by Tranmere Rovers, is being broadcast through their Facebook channel and they require a £5 donation to their “Nate’s Tickets” scheme (more of the this below).
How can I watch the stream
It’s pretty straight forward. You click on this link to go to Facebook and then click the big blue Get Access button and it’ll take your payment and I guess the player will pop up then.
Nates Tickets
Nates Tickets is a service they run where fans put money in to help disadvantaged families go along to games that they might not otherwise have been able to afford to have gone to. The money that goes into the pot goes towards providing tickets for poor adults and children to attend live Tranmere Rovers matches.
Either this is a heartwarming scheme that gives hard up people a memorable day out a the football where they can forget their worries for an afternoon and build up some happy memories. Or, arguably, they’re taking people whose lives are difficult enough already and making them suffer even further by making them have to sit through Tranmere Rovers trying to play football for 90 minutes. Talk about cruel and unusual punishment!
Only joking, it seems like a brilliant scheme and I think it’s exactly the sort of thing Huddersfield Town should seek to emulate as there must be hundreds or even thousands of potential Town fans that are financially excluded from following their team and something like this could really bring a bit of joy to people’s lives. We all hear about the cost of living crisis constantly and how hard some people are being affected but not everyone is being hit the same way. Schemes like this seem like a nice way to even things out a little bit and give struggling people a chance to go and watch a football game for free with their kids.
What team will play in the Tranmere Rovers friendly?
I don’t really know. Last weekend Danny Schofield seemed to pick his second choice eleven for the first game of the day and then the best eleven to start the second game. Then he used the B team players as subs in both games. As this will be the last friendly before the season starts properly we’ll probably be trying to get the players up as close to 90 minutes as possible. It’s hard to know which of the two friendlies Town play on Saturday will get which players.
Thankfully Town have a big enough squad now that there will be decent players in each game but it could be that one game gets more quality players than the others. One thing I noticed from watching the recent training videos was that there are a lot of new faces, so it’s almost certain you’ll see players you’ve not seen before just because of the amount of churn there has been over the summer.
Will there be a stream of the Bolton friendly?
I don’t think so. I had a quick look and couldn’t find anything to say there would be. So it’s likely that it will just be updates on Twitter and goal highlights after the game for that one.
