Huddersfield Town’s departing players leave heartwarming farewell messages

Today Huddersfield Town announced their retained list and said a sad farewell to some much-loved players. While the decision to release these players makes sense in terms of clearing the decks for a fresh start, it’s still sad to see loyal servants to the club on their way.

Most of the players leaving Town, including loan players returning to their parent clubs, left messages on social media to say farewell. These messages are fairly common place these days, but they feel more important in the current climate, given they did not have the chance to say goodbye to the fans in the stadium due to the ongoing pandemic.

A special place in Kachunga’s heart

What a lovely message and it’s hard to disagree with the comment about him always providing 100% when he was on the pitch. He played in 37 matches this season, so he’s probably the most likely to feel aggrieved about being released but three goals and five assists isn’t quite enough for an attacking player unfortunately but he always tried his best.

Kachunga shares some memories of his time at the club

These four pictures really sum up Kachunga, his connection to the fans, his relationship with David Wagner and obviously the huge part he played in our promotion year.

Quaner

This one hurts the most, I’m gutted to see Big Col go. But he deserves to be playing regularly and that’s not likely to be happening for him at Town. So I’m pleased he’s going to a better place (that sounds like he’s being put down at the vets – more likely he’ll return to the second tier in Germany or maybe even League One).

Rekeil Pyke

I have a feeling this may be another of those academy players that go away and build a good career in football for themselves. Josh Windass at Sheffield Wednesday would be a good example of this. Unlucky to never be given much of a chance but has built up a decent amount of experience on loan.

Lössl shows he’s a class act

I think Jonas Lössl is a great person, he comes across as the kind of guy that everyone likes wherever he goes. So it’s a shame to see him go, particularly as he’s been excellent in goals too. It’s clear he loves Town too, so we may not have seen the last of him.

Emile Smith Rowe praises Danny and Nicky Cowley

It’s nice to see ESR give some credit to the Cowleys for the help they gave him. I feel like history is being rewritten about their time at the club now they’ve gone and there’s a suggestion they were proponents of anti-football. Yet when they had Smith Rowe in the squad they gave him a chance and he brought some much needed creativity to a squad sorely lacking in this area.

Chalobah thanks everyone

Trevoh Chalobah might not have been an exciting signing but he’s slowly grown on fans with his consistently impressive performances. The Danny Simpson debacle left Town with a massive problem at rightback. But Chalobah stepped in to this unfamiliar role and did a superb job at a vital part of the season. It would be nice to see if a deal could be done to bring him to Town permanently
