Town travel to South Yorkshire today to take on Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. It’s possibly the best time to be facing the former Premier League side as they have yet to score in their last three games and on Wednesday night they were thumped by West Brom. This is Huddersfield Town though, so it’s never quite that easy. We will have to overcome our own demons before we can even think about exploiting the weaknesses of another team. I’ve already written about how Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Preston has done little to settle my concerns about Town. However, the result should have given the players a little confidence boost and if nothing else, takes the pressure off the need to accumulate points for a little while. This writeup of Town’s win against Preston North End is a bit on the late side. I’ve been busy since the game but I’ve also held back from writing about the game because I’m still not sure how I feel about it. Before the match I’d said getting three points would be good regardless of how we played, even though an improved performance was the ideal. But it doesn’t feel like a victory and I’m almost as glum about Town’s prospects as I was before the game. I keep telling myself that it’s too early in the season to know what’s in store for Town. Thankfully Town fans don’t have to spend too long feeling sorry for themselves after Saturday’s humbling at the hands of Fulham as they look to bounce back against Preston at the John Smith’s Stadium tonight. Preston have their own problems to deal with, after losing their first two games, so both sides will be desperate to get back to winning ways. The fact that neither side has had a good start to the season so far could make this game resemble two half-blind pigeons squabbling over a cigarette butt, with lots of determination on show but little skill. Wow! I was so excited about going back to the stadium that I didn't think I was all that bothered about the result. Yet Town still managed to throw away all that goodwill that was available by turning in one of those performances like we saw at Norwich, Bournemouth and Blackburn last season. We'd been encouraged to believe that the new signings we've brought in this season would mean we didn't meekly surrender to opponents any more. Fans will return to the John Smith’s Stadium today for the first time since the start of the pandemic. I’m ridiculously excited about the prospect of being back under those lovely bendy arches later today and it almost feels like what happens on the pitch will be secondary to the experience of physically attending a game. This novelty factor may work to Town’s advantage as the goodwill created by being back in the stadium will be needed as they face one of the best teams (on paper at least) in the league. Here are his thoughts on the Derby draw: Bums on seats First of all let me say that it was really good to be back at a real football match at the tidy Pride Park with no crowd restrictions despite fewer bums on seats than might be expected for a season opener. The atmosphere and the noise in and around the stadium made me realise just how much I had missed it over the past 18 months. “He just didn’t do enough” – Player ratings for Huddersfield Town’s 1-1 draw at Derby

It was a very strange start to the Championship season for Huddersfield Town. All the talk earlier this week was about how awful Derby would be and how they can’t put together a team, then it transpired that an unknown number of Town players would be ruled out of the game and we were the ones that might struggle to field a team. In reality, both first elevens were not far off Championship quality and once it kicked off it was a decent contest. Derby weren’t as bad as many expected but the weakened Town team did a reasonable job against them. I’d hoped that this season may feel a bit like a return to normal but even though fans will be able to watch Town play in the Championship for the first time in an age, the spectre of Coronavirus still looms over today’s match.
