Huddersfield Town escaped a late penalty appeal to come away from their match against West Brom with a point. Which is more than they deserved from the balance of play but is less than any team should expect when they have a 2-0 lead early in the first half and are at home. At least Town weren’t as bad as they were in their opening defeats, but there are still consistent issues in Danny Schofield’s team that point towards problems that need to be solved. Having said that, we also saw a moment of pure magic from Tino Anjorin, when he curled an absolute beauty into the top corner. So it wasn’t all grumbles! Huddersfield Town take on West Bromwich Albion this afternoon in their first game for eleven days, following the postponement of last weekend’s game against Coventry. It’s likely to be a tricky fixture, West Brom sit in midtable after drawing too many of their games so far this season but their team is littered with quality players and even though they are managed by Steve Bruce (who I have held a grudge against ever since his days in charge of Town) they should still provide a stern test for Danny Schofield’s men. Huddersfield Town's first half woes continued against Norwich last night when they quickly found themselves 2-0 down, mostly down to good play from Danel Sinani down Norwich's right. A second-half red card for Tom Lees made Town's job harder but they still managed to look better organised.and more threatening after the break. These games where Town's performance levels vary hugely from one stage of the game to another make it very tricky to do player ratings because some players have produced both excellent and shocking moments in the same game whereas other are consistent across the whole game. Huddersfield Town have made the long journey to Norwich for tonight’s game where they will be hoping to pick up more points after getting their first victory of the season against Stoke on Saturday. Our last competitive game at Carrow Road was a 7-0 drubbing back in April 2021, when Manchester United loanee, Joel Perreira, made a rare appearance in goals and Town put in one of their worst performances of the Carlos Corberan era. Thankfully, Norwich are nothing like the team they were the last time we visited them, after failing to win any of their first three league games of their return to the Championship they are in poor form, at least in terms of results. “He’s going to be a new fan favourite” Player ratings for Huddersfield Town’s 3-1 win against Stoke City

I've never felt more confident of a Town defeat going into a game but thankfully the team that emerged onto the field against Stoke were a completely different proposition to the limp and ineffective ensembles that have capitulated in all three of our previous games. After three consecutive false starts, it felt like this was the first time that Danny Schofield got the team selection and his tactics right and his good judgement was backed up by players that put in, on the whole, a decent shift. While not perfect, it was a dramatically improved Town performance and the fans showed that they are willing to heap praise on their team when they see enough effort being put in. What a novelty to finally be playing a game of football when it should be played instead of being shunted about at the whims of Sky’s producers, the organisers of the Commonwealth games and the Rugby League fixtures. I try and write these articles a day or two after the match so I've had time to think on the match, calm down and it's not one long rant. But I'm still wound up about how abject Town were in that first half having slept twice after the game. There have been some really bad Town performances in the last four or five years to compare that 45 minutes to and I don't think it was the worst I've seen them but it wasn't far off Jan Siewert-era Town. Thankfully a hairdryer treatment team talk and a few teacups getting flung around the changing rooms seemed to shake some sense into the bunch of wasters that had turned out in the first half and I didn't feel embarrassed to support the team that played in the second half even if it was far from perfect. Huddersfield Town lost 2-1 to Birmingham City last night in a game where they struggled badly in the first half and weren’t able to turn an improved second-half into the goals we needed to get anything from the game. It’s a result that adds pressure onto Danny Schofield, as he’s now lost his opening two games in charge at Town and both performances have been unconvincing at best. Schofield showed a lot of faith in the team that failed to perform against Burnley last week, only making two changes when far more players could have been dropped.
